Updated! Now with screenshots!
That’s right folks! Record of Agarest War is now coming to your Xbox 360 as a full retail product alongside the PlayStation Network verison in the Spring of 2010. But, if you want to know what the reasons for this decision our Editor, Ben Bateman said it best…
“In truth, we had Record of Agarest War ready to go up on the PlayStation Network months ago,” [Ed.'s note: That’s a lie.] says Ben Bateman, Editor, Aksys Games, “But when a haggard man emerged from a ball of crackling energy that materialized outside our office with dire warnings from a dark future, we decided to reconsider. As it turns out, a PlayStation Network-exclusive release of Agarest was—or rather, would have been—the catalyst for World War III. The gaming community was torn apart—literally—by this apparent favoritism, and from that schism poured the infinite minions of Satan himself, the Lord of Lies. The man told us, his eyes blank with the 1000-yard stare, of the horrors of this future war. He had been sent back in time, the last hope of a desperate human resistance, to prevent what the people of this desolate future Earth called, simply, ‘The Breaking.’ As the last spark of life passed from his body, broken and battered by his journey through the time vortex, we swore to honor his final wish.”
“This is why Record of Agarest War has been delayed,” Ben continues, his eyes wet with tears, “So that we may release it on both consoles, and in doing so, save the world.”
Also, one of the best reasons you want to get the North American version is that we’ve included Trophy and Achievement support!
Full press release after the jump.

Record of Agarest War Prologue
War darkened the skies of Agarest. Not a simple war between mortals, easily ended by divine intervention, but a war that split the gods themselves. Armies such as the world had never seen before, and would never see again, clashed in the skies of Agarest, across its surface, and even in the caverns that wound their way through its interior.
As is the way in war, many died on both sides, gods and mortals alike, and the war left Agarest broken, blackened, and dead. The gods wept for their paradise, and in a final act of creation, sacrificed themselves to bring life back to its charred and twisted surface.
Although the gods are long dead, the withering darkness that began and fueled their war is not. Imprisoned for millennia, its bonds have begun to weaken, and as they do, a shadow once again spreads across the surface of the world.
Born into this world perched unknowingly on the brink of the apocalypse, a young man by the name of Leonhardt and his descendants are the last, best hope for Agarest. Their journey will span generations and continents as they strive to once again bring peace to their beleaguered world, even as the cost of their own souls.

Haha, make those people who imported the game from Europe feel bad. Glad I didn’t import the game.
11.13.09 at 11:00 am
Ooh, the release is finally out? =) I’ll share some screenshots to go with this PR in a few minutes.
11.13.09 at 11:01 am

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS *HAPPY* hope is released soon T_T i cant wait anymore!!
11.13.09 at 1:58 pm
Cornucopia…. yes.
11.13.09 at 3:02 pm
Yeah, I see nothing of value here. Unless you added the extra 360 content to the PS3 version or releasing it in a retail box I’m importing.
11.13.09 at 3:10 pm
“Enjoy an enhanced version of the game based on the Japanese release of Record of Agarest War: Reappearance!”. I think that means the extra 360 content is in the PS3 version.
11.13.09 at 3:14 pm
Don’t you mean “Rapier Lance”? ;-) Like one of these? http://www.alcheminc.com/pike.jpg
11.13.09 at 3:17 pm
Sorry, my mistake. Play-Asia says it’s “Rapier Lance”, so it must be true.

@InfiniteNine: Topher got to it before me, but yes, our PS3 version is the beefed-up version. The screenshots I posted of the syrium (elf-looking chick) and the bound-up woman in red are a glimpse of the 360 additions, which are included in our PSN version.
11.13.09 at 3:26 pm
Well that’s good, but I’m still unsure if I want to pay for something I can’t physically own. I guess I’ll think it over.
11.13.09 at 3:34 pm
@InfiniteNine: then why don’t you buy a physical copy of the superior version on the superior console?
Thanks for bringing out Re:Appearance Akysys!
11.13.09 at 3:38 pm
@artego: Please keep childish console wars talk to yourself. It really doesn’t shine a good light on either side of the arguement.
11.13.09 at 4:44 pm
Humm, will there be a full retail PS3 (non-PSN) release as well?
11.13.09 at 5:08 pm
I dont think there will be, anyway we getting something not even the japanese ps3 ownners got :P
@infiniteNine: well we are in the digital era… though i prefer phisical, at least we getting good stuff, the extra stuff we get is not just one character more… there are a lot more scenes, new characters (wich mean new scenes), i think it have new dugneons, gallery mode, we get..”better” scenes that the normal ps3 release have (and when i say better i mean “better ;D <33" , and we can even have trophies :D but if it doesnt changes your mind you can just import the european version (with less stuff)
11.13.09 at 5:15 pm
@WildArms: Can’t really say I like the digital distribution route, but I guess I understand. I ranted on forever about DD before so I’ll keep quite about it here. I’ve just decided to import a Japanese 360 and get the Japanese edition of the game plus some Cave shooters I really love. It’ll save me in quarters at the arcade, and force me to practice my Japanese more.
11.14.09 at 10:41 pm
@infiniteNine: It’s only childish console wars talk if it wasn’t true.
I don’t like DD either, that is why I will get the 360 version. And I don’t want to import the EU PS3 version because it has no trophies and none of the extras in Re:Appearance that Akysys is putting into their version. So logically, the best thing is to get the 360 version. If you understand Japanese and want the Japanese 360 version, that’s cool too.
11.14.09 at 11:57 pm
I wish you guys hadn’t delayed the PS3 version just because of the 360 one, but I guess getting the extra content helps make up for that. Still a first day download for me. I might have preferred a disc, but I did get that 320G HDD for a reason. ;)
11.15.09 at 9:29 am
Okay, after re-reading the first paragraph, I realize what you guys are doing. You’re selling a retail version on the Xbox, and a download-only version on the PS3. Just doesn’t pay to be a PS3 fan with you guys, does it?
Looks like I’ll just have to be happy with my Ghostlight version of the game. With any luck, they’ll eventually update it with trophies, but even if not, I’d much rather have a physical copy of the game than a download hogging space on my HD.
I’m very disappointed in this announcement. You said this one would prove why we should get your version instead of the import version? Sorry, but you were very wrong. Unless you announce a retail version, no sale.
I’m going to enjoy my nice, spiffy 48 page hardcover artbook, my posters, and other goodies I’m getting with my collector’s edition. Better luck next time.
11.15.09 at 2:22 pm
@Shadowchaser: To quote someone else from the forums “I’ve heard in various places that SCEA (i.e., Sony America) has a hard rule saying that games for the PS3, for the US market, must have an English dub included. Apparently that rule can be circumvented by making a game download-only. I would guess that’s why Aksys is not / cannot release the PS3 version as a retail product. Ghostlight is based in Europe, so they wouldn’t fall under SCEA’s jurisdiction, and thus they could release a retail game without a dub.”.
Plus, it’s way too early to rule out the possibility of a collectors edition, even for the PS3 version.
11.15.09 at 6:36 pm
@topher though that is only an assumption
11.15.09 at 9:44 pm
@topher: How can you have a collector’s version of a download-only game?
Honestly, your reasons may be correct, but I’d like to hear that from the Aksys people myself. It’d be nice to find out why they’re giving more to the Xbox side of the equation. If the dub-only reason is true, I’d also like to know a good place where we can give Sony a piece of our mind about being shortchanged this way. I’ve never cared about dubs, I generally despise their horrid quality and I prefer to see movies(or any other form of entertainment) in their original language even if the dub isn’t awful.
11.16.09 at 1:21 am
I understand that different console releases might come with extras. But why are the extra based on *REGION*? The US player will get the extras while the EU gamers have to do without them!
why is that? Would those extras effect the rating of the game in the EU? What about the xbox360 version, would it be release in the EU (with the extras)? or will it be regional locked to the US ONLY?
11.16.09 at 8:44 am
@Shadowchaser: Well, what’s in a collectors edition? Usually the game, artbook, soundtrack, etc. The only difference would be they exclude the game. I’m just saying, it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
As for the dubbing thing, I completely agree, I usually don’t like dubs either. I have no idea if Sony has that rule, but that reason makes more sense then Aksys intentionally pissing off PS3 owners. They know what they’re doing, and they wouldn’t release the PS3 version download-only unless they had no other choice.
11.17.09 at 10:03 am
@stranger: Doesn’t the EU version already have the extras? Or most of them at least? I think the EU publishers would be the ones to decide what goes in the game over there. As for them affecting the rating… no idea? It’s always possible I guess (Europe has different standards and ratings).
11.19.09 at 7:34 am
Euro version ps3 version is better
Has special edition artbook if you buy the collectors version
Collectors Edition slipcase
Collectors Edition inlay
48 page art book
6 collectable artcards featuring images from the game
A3 limited edition poster
why buy on playstation network you cant sell it after and no collectors edition?
11.19.09 at 8:33 am
@sasori: In case you hadn’t noticed, there IS going to be a collectors edition, even for PS3. They said it themselves in this article
http://www.aksysgames.com/2009/11/16/an-edition-for-collectors/
In fact, they’re asking US what we want in the collectors edition. And besides, I don’t think the European PS3 version has the extra content from Reappearance.
11.21.09 at 10:34 pm
I really hope there’s a retail version for the PS3, I would definitlly buy a collectors edition and it looks better in a game collection. I made this account just so I can leave this message lol also im a big fan of aksys fighters
12.05.09 at 10:19 am
Like what IceColdEskimo said: I, too, really hope this means there will be a retail PS3 release. No real copy = guaranteed pass, purchase-wise.
