An Edition for Collectors

agarest_logo_hi

As you have undoubtedly noticed by now, we have cried “Agarest”, and let slip the dogs of, uh, announcements. Well, sort of re-announcements, but still.

Some of you are wondering—as well you might—if Agarest will see what is commonly referred to as a “Collector’s Edition”. I can tell you now that this is entirely possible. And before you ask, yes, we are examining our options for both platforms. The logistics of such a feat are still under discussion, but I have a question to put to you, potential purchaser of Agarest. That question is: What would you like to see in a collector’s edition of Record of Agarest War? Please, let us know, either by commenting here, or in the forums, or through electronic mail.

Soundtracks are always good! The character designs look great so I’d love to see details with an art book or something similar.

Posters (body pillows? lol *shot*), postcards… standard swag is usually fine. An OST and art book are what make me spend that bit more to get the CE though.

Well i dont know how would u do for ps3 (since is digitall release) but if u guys find a way ill give some ideas!!

-I would really like a 2010 calendar (i know it will be released in 2010, so maybe 2011) xD, anyway i still dont have any 2010 calendar and i wouldnt mind waiting 1 or 2 months.
-Artbook/posters are always a great chooice.
-Maybe a soundtrack would be nice too (though i dont know too much about the music of this game).

And well if i can think of anything else ill post it here :P

I’d love to see an Artbook and Soundtrack. Also would love if there were an english dub track in this game as well as I loved the english dub of Blazblue!

@Alkara: Oh, dear gawd, how I wish we could have done an English dub for this game. There are soooooo many good lines that would have been far more badass/hilarious if coupled with an awesome delivery.

But just so I don’t derail these comments any longer, keep those suggestions coming, peoples! We’re all ears.

The beta version of the CE that was released in the EU already have:
    # 48-page artbook
    # A3 poster
    # 6 postcards

so add the soundtrack to that and I’ll be fine.

now the big question, is this for the US *only* or will be be released in the EU as well (or at the very least, the 360 version won’t be regional locked)

P.S. guys, don’t hold your breath for the oppi mouse-pad, there no way it will be coming…. officially

I would probably be interested in an artbook and OST. More would be frosting on the cake, so to speak, though a poster doesn’t sound bad either.

Collector’s Edition? Awesome. I have absolutely no reason to import now.

Realistic/practical: Artbook, poster. T-shirt would be awesome, I’d rather have that than anything else. Plus T-shirts also double as advertisement.
Fanciful: Body pillow +1. Nothing better to scare your (former) friends with than that.

Retail copy of the game, soundtrack, artbook, and I’m happy! The other ideas sure sound great, but these are the things *I* like in a collector’s edition. The Soundtrack is the only thing I don’t already have from another version of Agarest War (I picked up the UK version, and I already had picked up the Japanese version the last trip I made to Japan), but I’d buy it again to support Aksys and get the Trophies if I were getting a retail copy of the game. No retail copy of the game? Nevermind, I’ll stick with the copies I have. :)

    Thanks for your time!

I prefer art stuff over OSTs, but ideas would be:

    -Mini-posters (the stick kind)
-A Big Poster (the wall hanging kind)
    -Postcards with art
    -Art book
    -Calendars
    -Figure?
    -LE slip cover

@Heavenscent: Yea I know :( I think Aksys should charge 59.99 for the game (non ce) and 69.99+ for CE edition and add vocals, soundtrack and you know what else would be cool? Be the first RPG type game to have Avatar unlockables, would love to see my little elf avatar wear some of those clothes! Would be neat actually if you unlocked the outfit of the heroine you chose to marry that way the game would actually be worth playing through more than once.

I’ve register just to add my few cents on this release. I would definately purchase this if it has a hard copy of itself. As for possible items in a limited edition i’d suggest:
    -slip case with foil embrodering.
-artbook, full color, hardcover and if possible 100 pgs worth.
-full ost on oppose to snipets of a full jp version of the ost.
-a figure of some sort would be nice to throw in. but post card like the european is good.
i highly doubt the figure idea will go through, but i will also say it would be impossible for them to give a mousepad as everyone suggested and a pillow (unless its just a casing). The calender concept can be intergrated into the artbook.

I don’t know how the collectors edition will be handled for the Playstation 3 version, but, if it is still just on PSN, a good start would be to include all of the dlc that is on the Japanese PSN. Also, as others have said, an art book would be nice, as well as an OST, preferably physical and not just download. Other than that, possibly a mini strategy guide, or any of the other good suggestions that the other people have already said.

  25. wrote on November 28th, 2009 at 5:12 am

I don’t mind purchasing the PSN network version of this game, but the lack of physical media in comparison to the XBOX 360 version is definitely a detractor. Things that could ‘make it up to me’ so to speak would be an Agarest dynamic PS3 theme, downloadable soundtrack, custom wallpapers and icons, playstation home goodies, etc.

Even if these were only available for a ‘collector’s edition’. Though it wouldn’t really make sense to call it a collector’s edition without physical media.

Okay, after playing the UK version for a bit, I will have to say that a PSN special edition needs a Strategy Guide! Well, that should be for both the 360 version and the PS3 version… either way. This game deserves a really good strategy guide… best ring up the folks from Doublejump Books or something. :)

Spiffy art and a hardcover printing would be a must, of course.

I really want to know if there’s any chance of getting a retail copy of this for the US market, on the PS3. It’s very frustrating to me as a consumer that this game (which started on the PS3) is getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the US. Why are we(PS3 owners) getting shafted??

    WANT LIST:
    1) By far, this game’s biggest need is a STRATEGY GUIDE! Fact that it’s been baffling gamers in Japan for two years, well, ’nuff said… And please ignore that guy who uttered the name Double Jump; I don’t want to pay the price of a game for their b.s. “printed on demand” guides.
    2) Soundtrack. But could you have fun with it and put it in a PS3 Game Case with an Instruction Manual??? Not sure if that would go over well with the SCEA Brass, but it’d be funny as hell…
    3) An Art Book. And it should differ from the one I already got from Ghostlight; Aksys should take advantage of them fancy new-fangled screenshots coming our way!
    4) PRICE CONTROL! I’m not happy having to buy a PSN-only download… I, like many other JRPG fans, would prefer a physical copy but realize you can’t always have what you want (Bernie Stolar v.2.0, or what?) So keep the ARP down, please!!! That post that said $59.99 to 69.99+ made me freak out; I didn’t pay that much to import the CE from the UK. No disc, well then how about $29.99 for just the download or $39.99 for the CE? I’d pay more if you were to include an OSG, otherwise any more for less should be related to content versus price, not vice versa…

  28. wrote on December 3rd, 2009 at 12:52 pm

    Shadowchaser

Hmm, true, the Doublejump ‘online’ guides suck. I was thinking more of the old stuff they used to do for NIS games… which were awesome.
    .
No way I’m wanting something that isn’t a physical object. I’m sorry, but ‘Collector’s Edition’ means getting stuff I can collect! I want a game that I can still play even if Sony or Aksys goes away, or the download ceases to be available. Same with my strategy guide, I want a real, physical book with awesome artwork and high-quality advice on how to play this game. (Yeah, it’s a bit tricky)
    .
So, yes, my wishlist for a Collector’s set: 1) Physical copy of the game. 2) Strategy Guide. 3) Big artbook, with lots o’ pictures. 4) Original Soundtrack 5) Images and icons/PS3 Theme would be nice, too.
    .
Actually, I’d have no problem with merging the strategy guide and the artbook into one product, as long as the page size was large enough and the printing quality was high enough. I would want at least 50 pages dedicated to art, and maybe some fold-out pages or something… the Disgaea ‘world books’ were pretty awesome, with all the sprite images and what-not. Something like that would deserve its own product, though. Which, I’d be interested in. :)
    .
And for the record, I’d be willing to pay up to 80 bucks for a Collector’s Edition, provided it had a physical copy of the game. Without a physical copy of the game? Meh, 20 bucks, max. Including game.
    .
This is why I never bought Siren in the US. Everyone else got a BD version, so… that’s what I got.

I know several people who prefer Collector Editions. If it comes with even an OST it would be a welcome addition for the 360. As long as it’s the actual game and not a download I know I’ll be picking it up (along with a lot of other people who hate download only games). All in all, Artbook, OST’s, or little bonus items are always welcome and are definitely the usual suspects. I think I just may love you forever if a Collectors set comes out. Keep up the good work!

As long as there’s a physical copy of the game (PS3) in the package, I really don’t care about any extras — I collect CDs, so a soundtrack might be nice, but no physical copy of a game = no sale, regardless of any shiny baubles.

(The only reason this game has re-emerged as a potential purchase is because I just found out that Microsoft’s customers are getting a real release and this gives me hope that Sony’s won’t be denied the same sort of deal)

PS3 version of CE, as long as there is a physical copy of the game for the PS3 in the package – any extras you include is gravy and I would be happy.

Complete OST would be the best and most reasonable normal choice; or one of those boobie mouse pads they release in Japan or a bodypillow case with one of the male female leads if you want to get Otakuish.

…Also, please don’t put the collectors edition in a cardboard box. The BlazBlue set was cool, but I would have preferred something a bit more substantial. Maybe a steelbox?

    :
On to the collector’s edition, for the ps3, would like to see steelbook packaging, OST (on a CD), artbook, but but biggest + would be a strategy guide of some sort (maybe do an alliance with doublejump?). Either way if there is a ps3 physical copy i will pick it up regardless, but any extras would make me think alot higher of you guys :D

^ “…maybe do an alliance with doublejump?”

    - You mean sell their soul? I kid, but not really… I own about a half dozen DJ guides that I purchased from *ugh* Gamestop once they were marked down in price and I don’t find them to be very informative… They are on par with a Prima guide, and both companies fall short of Bradygames’ effort… But what really rubs my rooster raw is when they charge $44.10 for three of their guides, $39.99 for the PS2 Disgaea OSG, and $34.99 for a PSP game guide. And what’s their lame excuse for gouging the prices? They claim that guides are “printed on demand,” leading the consumer to believe that each guide is printed JUST FOR THEM… Anyone who has ever sent their product to a printing company (which is probably not a large percentage of DJ’s customer base,) knows this is BS; the more you print at a time, the cheaper it is- so your goal as a publisher is to always order more than you initially need, because as time goes on you’ll find a use for them… Conclusion: either DJ is really stupid and their customers pay the price OR they are really greedy and their customers get the shaft…

Now on to the subject of physical copies- Yakuza 3 gets a Blu-ray with Japanese dubs but Agarest gets relegated to PSN-only? I’m really getting sick of the way SCEA consistently screws smaller publishers: first the Arc the Lad and Growlanser games forced to be released as single packages, then titles like (Bouken Jidai Katsugeki:) Goemon and (Ikki Tousen) Shining Dragon getting canned, now Agarest and Battle Fantasia forced to be download-only… I’m sure I left something off this list, feel free to chime in with any other SCEA hose-jobs…

    @ Kunio-kun

Actually, nowhere (yet) does it say that Yakuza 3 is coming out on disc for PS3. All press releases just say it will be available on PS3. I read somewhere that if you look at possible box art it says PSN (I haven’t seen the art myself though). So it’s quite possible that it’ll be download-only as well.

Disregard what I just said. I just saw the article to the contrary. They must have just changed their policy or made an exception. Still doesn’t really change my plans or make a big impact on my decision.

    Rogue Ninja-
C’mon, do you really think they would have “just changed their policy?” Your second suggestion of making an exception seems far more plausible; who do you think SCEA would give preferential treatment to, Sega or a smaller, lesser-known ‘niche’ publisher like Aksys? They are starting to have a track record for this sort of thing…

Anyways, I read your suggestions for the CE further up in the thread and now you’ve stated that your plans won’t change, am I to assume this is a guaranteed purchase for you? And if so, are you buying the PSN version, the 360 disc, or both?
    Thanks for the dialogue, Kunio

I would like an artbook with all the cutscenes from the game, an OST, a strategy guide that is as good as what Atlus did with Demons Soul, and a digital disc containing wallpapers, art, DLC, and especially a “DYNAMIC THEME” for the PS3.

Since the PS3 is getting no physical copy, going all out with the CE stuff is the only way to justify its PSN DL only.

It is indeed a definite buy. I only have a 360 so I’ll be getting it for that, but I’ll likely pester friends with PS3s to get it as well. If I had a PS3 I’d get it for that system instead; disco or no disc makes no difference to me if the game is good.

I have both the 360 and the PS3 but I’m definitely getting it for the PS3. Only thing that bothers is: “Collector’s Edition without a physical copy of the game?”

Many have expressed the above but well, we can’t do anything about it if that’s the only way we’ll get the game! So thanks for that!

As for the stuff that come with the CE, I’d like an OST (the same one they released in Japan. With the same tracks at least) and an artbook. Do it like BlazBlue, except without the tutorials but an artbook instead.

As compared to Ghostlight’s release (which I bought), I found the collectables pretty cool. But the game itself was disappointing. Quite a handful of notable mistakes which bothers me a little. I’d like to have a perfect game for keeps. Voting for a physical copy on the PS3!

Anyway, here’s hoping that Akysys does a better job than Ghostlight!

But be sure to add the essentials Metal case, soundtrack, bonus behind scenes dvd “or included within BlueRay disc duoy” and a fairly good size artbook/ mini-full strategy guide and aksys could charge as much as $100 but I say $75 seems fair

Yeah, if you have an X360 and like JRPG’s, I could see how this is a must-buy. I’ve already stopped playing my Ghostlight copy over twenty hours in (which is a big deal for me since my time to game is very limited,) in anticipation of the Aksys version…
    ————————————————————————————————————
Grimbird28 plus a host of other recent posters:
I have no problem if you want to state your desire for a physical copy, but why are you posting statements such as “or included within [the BluRay] disc [duo,]” as if a disc-based release is imminent? THE GAME WILL BE PSN ONLY!!! And $75 to $100- is that a joke??? I make a pretty good living, have more money to spend on games than most other gamers, but think that pricepoint is outrageous…

Simply put? A retail copy for the PS3 version and an artbook with detailed character information packaged with the game. To be honest, I would prefer to get a PS3 version, as my 360 isn’t going to last if I have to get more games for it. I don’t really understand why you even considered online-only for the PS3 if you were going for a physical copy for the 360.

Trying to keep this alive. I’d like to see an artbook and/or soundtrack with the Collector’s Edition for PS3 if possible. But seriously, I really want a physical copy of this game.

Well, I’m glad for the people that will get this on Xbox. I would’ve liked to see a PS3 version.

I’m still waiting for an announcement that they’d bring a collector’s edition for the PS3.

As a PS3 owner on a DSL connection with a bandwidth cap I have to say that I will not be buying this as a download via the PSN. Even if I did not have a Cap and had a faster connection to accommodate the 9GB file size of this game, I still would not buy a download only game. I like having physical/tangible media for my $$$.

As for what I’d like with a possible PS3 retail version the list would never end (we’re all greedy like that ^_~)
In terms of logistics and being realistic honestly please package the same collecters materials into a PS3 edition. until such a time which I can go to EBGames a pickup a copy I will not be buying it.

In hopes that I will one day be your consumer
    regards Moonie

*edit* The same collectors materials that you packaged for the Xbox if that wasn’t clear in the previous post
