Done :D, although, being a boy, it would be really hard to buy one =0, umm but it isn’t impossible, i’ve seen some anime with the female main char(wich means more oriented to girls, since the maker is a womnan) and i liked them, the funny factor is important

Even if I’m not personally interested I like the idea of localized otome games because they could help to expand the visual novel fanbase in the western markets in previously uninterested audiences.

That said, I would like much more to see regular visual novels localized before moving to the otome area :P In this generation there are a slew of good console vns, ranging from Steins Gate to Chaos Head Noah to the upcoming Phantom of Inferno remake (X360), White Album (Ps3), 428 (Ps3, Wii, Psp) and many ports of Pc visual novels on PSP (the whole Infinity series for example, best known in the west for Ever17).

That said, I imagine the licensing costs for, say, Steins Gate would be harsher than those of most otome games, not to mention that Aksys and Idea Factory are already working together, and that is probably an important factor.

I haven’t played an otome game but have played other visual novel type games.

I wouldn’t be opposed but I’d much rather play the same thing as a guy rather than a gal.

It would have to be funny though for me to even consider it.

Aw darn, I read Otome as Bishōjo and responded to the survey as such.

Anyways, you looking into publishing some games from Otomate?

Dude, all I have had to play with otome-game wise is freaking harvest moon (not saying i don’t love it, but uh…harvesting crops for the 99th time gets tiring) and freaking princess debut. NOT A LOT OF OPTIONS!!! I want to play an otome game SOOOO bad its not even funny, I even went so far as to buy love-drops(*cough*nextgameplease?*couuughh* from japan and tried to translate it! Suffice to say i only got through about two paragraphs after like a week of trying to look stuff up in my Kanji book.

The only game I ever got a good ending on was Tokimeki memorial 1st love and that was because I freaking memorized the good date spots, clothes, likes and dislikes just by my dates facial movements and how hard I listened to the way they sounded and some random words I know in Japanese. >.> I think anyone would be a little ticked off that they couldn’t fully enjoy a game that was in another language they didn’t understand. It would probably tick them of even more if they came to find out that their games would never be publicized into their language. It’s like a slap with a glove made of SAND PAPER to me personally.

My friends and I don’t have anything to look forward to but the next harvest moon game for our girl-y squee moments…It’s kinda of depressing really, so don’t think the fan base isn’t out there because there’s at LEAST 45 people that i personally know who would love to have their claws on a Otome game. >.>; STOP NEGLECTING THE FEMALE FANBASE, WE’RE HERE DANGIT! DX

Should I say, you go girl? I support otome games too. Let’s all spread the survey to show Aksys that all you girls want otome games.

I would love a game for the ladies that isn’t Imagine:Gender Stereotypes. Give me a game with story please!

I answered. Though I am a guy, and would be more interested in the one male, many female games, like White Album (HINT HINT AKSYS), I am doing this to show my support of this genre in the US. I know PS3 released their first Otome game on the PS3 in Japan a couple of months ago, so that is good. Despite the fact I am a guy, if the story is good enough, yeah, I just may buy one. I only played two Visual Novels so far, one with a male, one with a female. The genre is fun, and I would very much love to see more come over, so I fully support anything Aksys may do, if they have any interest in bringing over dating sims at all.

What about some galges for the guys?

Something I’d like to note is “Q: Which otome games are you the most familiar with?”; the fourth answer option is ‘Kakera’ – I think that ought to be ‘Hiiro no Kakera’, assuming we’re talking about one of IF’s more popular otoge titles. I also like how most of the titles mentioned are Otomate titles, is that a hint there? 8D

That being said, I fully support bringing otome games over! I regularly spend around $70~$100 per game I buy (I ADMIT I am a huge sucker for LEs, even if the bonus material is only an artbook and drama cd), and otome games probably constitute most of the games I’ve bought within the past 2-3 years. It’d make me fantastically happy to see an english-speaking fanbase develop for this genre, although I do realise that the amount of text in any otoge is a fair deterrent to localising these games.

@Savvy: Haha, unfortunately, if you’re looking for something like that, they’re a pretty rare sight in otome games, especially in the player avatar/lead female role. Most of the females are pretty nondescript and fit in the ‘friendly/helpful/shy’ archetype, though if I were to recommend a game that tries to get around that (at least marginally), it’d be Koei’s Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3. I’ve heard good things about Hakuouki’s lead, too.

Most of the otoge I’ve played have had fairly decent plots, though that of course depends on tastes. I’ve also played a number of games that were straight fanservice, no plot involved (like HoneyBee’s Starry Sky series), but there’s nothing wrong with indulgence from time to time, right? (Right.)

it’s good to see US producers throwing female gamers a bone

I made an account just to comment on this survey :D

I love otome games and am very saddened that the English availability for these games is practically nonexistent. I am always very excited when the possibility for legal US otome game releases is brought up.

So, even if it is an otome game that I am not particularly interested in, I will almost definitely buy it to support the industry (in the hopes that some of my favorites will eventually be released!) The only concern is the price, which tends to be outrageous enough in their original Japanese releases even before being brought over here. I am a very poor college student, so I’m concerned that I won’t be able to afford games if they do come out, which makes me very sad. Would you mind giving me an estimate of about how expensive these games would be?

Oh, I forgot to mention in the survey, if there was one series I would love to have translated, it would be honeybee’s Starry Sky series! The four games are short and accessible, very pretty to look at and starring some of the best voice actors out there. It’s also all-ages, so it gives you a wide range of potential customers. I think it could be a great starting point for beginner otome gamers!

I would love to see some Otome games. I have sadly only played a few due to the over all lack of availability here in the states. Would be wonderful if you could bring some over :D

I’d like to play otome games, but like a lot of boys would like to play as a boy or maybe as a girl that would date girls (yuri) and/or boys or even a boy that dates boys (yaoi) and/or girls.
I’d also love to play some non-dating sim visual novels (maybe similar to 999) particularly science fiction/fantasy.
you should do a survey about all visual novels in general~

I missed the survey (I just found out about you guys through 999 (so psyched to play anything from someone responsible for Ever17, thank you Aksys) and I know this is late but I am all for you guys bringing over otome games. I’d love to play an English version of Hakuouki, but I’d love any otome game and love visual novels in general. Thank you for taking niche gamers into account!
