To Fans of the Zero Escape Series, Aksys Games & Amazon Customers,

As many of you are aware, there have been some technical difficulties as well as miscommunication issues over the “Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward” pre-order watch bundle sold on Amazon. While we appreciate Amazon’s best efforts to ensure that this pre-order promotion runs smoothly, we are deeply saddened and would like to apologize for placing an undue burden on Amazon customers affected by this. In order to provide a clear explanation, we have detailed what has transpired over these past couple of days.

When the first pre-order bonus wave was announced, we were informed that Amazon was planning to honor customers who had already pre-ordered a bonus bundle by switching them over at a later date and to set aside enough stock to fulfill all of those orders. We believe Amazon has done everything in their power to ensure this process would go smoothly, but due to technical issues, customers would have to modify their own order in order to receive the pre-order watch bonus after we had informed customers that they would not have to make this modification.

In order to rectify this situation, Amazon sent affected customers an email detailing that the switch to “pre-order bonus bundle” had not been made and that they would have to switch it themselves once the stock was available. According to Amazon, the email provided a special product page containing pre-order bonus bundles to minimize exposure to others, so the affected customers would have the exclusive privilege to switch over.

Amazon has now reopened the window and is currently allowing customers to switch and re-order the pre-order bonus. This window will remain open until Amazon exhausts their stock.

We would like to once again apologize for placing an undue burden on Amazon customers affected by this situation. Although it was our intent to help Amazon customers as much as possible, as a publisher, we regret that we do not have the capability to fully assist customers who have chosen to purchase Aksys Games’ products through Amazon. Therefore, we realize that during the “first wave,” our pre-mature involvement may have worsened the situation. We will continue to be in communication with Amazon about this situation and will determine if either Amazon or Aksys Games can take any further actions. While we understand that this explanation does not fully rectify this situation, it is our sincerest hope that you will remain our fans of Amazon and Aksys Games.

So do you know the total number of watches produced and the amount of preorders up to and including the “first wave”? I would like to know if there’s at least that many available. If not, it’s not entirely Amazon’s fault unless they never informed the publisher to produce enough of the product in the first place.

I found the explaination a bit confusing nor did I receive an e-mail from either Aksys or Amazon about the re-opening of the preorder despite ordering in March. I still was able to order a copy that says it will come with the pre-order bonus from people posting the supposedly private links all over the net. Not sure what’s going on now. Before the bonus item was very limited now it’s back up and available order?

Whatever, at this point. I’ve been burned by Aksys before with a few lackluster choices in games to localize (namely Mimana and Jikandia). Heck, I paid for Family Glide Hockey and I still continue to pick up Aksys products because the cool hidden gems (ex. Theresia, 999, Fate etc) not even Atlus or Xseed would touch. I have both preorders going at this point and if I receive both, I’ll send one back without the watch.

Something is going on behind the scenes, there’s been a lack of transparency between the interactions of Aksys and Amazon. As long as I get my bonus, I’ll standby your company. However, I don’t think I would ever stop buying your localizations even if I was disappointed by this fiasco. I do respect and and thankful of your hardwork and I hate to have a fiasco cloud my opinion of your company.

If you do work this out for the early preorders who were affected, I thank you for your efforts even if the dealings haven’t been totally transparent.

Thank you for this statement. This is makes me feel much better. I have already cancelled my previous order and ordered the newly listed Amazon bonus pre-order. This is actually what I was hoping to hear from Aksys previously. A kind of “We’re sorry. We’ll look into it.” Rather than “It’s not our fault. It’s Amazon’s. Go talk to them.”

Well, from my understanding, it’s not so much “new supply” as it is “all the watches that should have gone to those who preordered early are now freely up for grabs.”

Both editions seem to be sold out again as of 0037 MST.

The annoying thing for me is I don`t know if I`m getting the pre-order bonus. I pre-ordered back in May from amazon.ca (amazon.com won`t let Canadians order games from amzon.com). Amazon.ca NEVER lists pre-order bonuses, but I always get the bonus. I haven`t got an e-mail from amazon about this problem. I don`t know if this because I`m getting the bonus, or if it`s because Canadians aren`t getting the bonus period. Guess I`ll find out when they ship my pre-order next week *sigh*.

Amazon.ca doesn’t get the pre-order bonus. I guess we’ll have to wait for the Oct 30 release date…

I understand the technical and logistical difficulties behind this but I must say I am still very upset. For the past 3 days now I have been trying to change my order to include the Pre-order bonus and never once did the 3DS page update for me showing that they had more stock available.

And yes I got the email, and yes I watched that page like a hawk. Except when I was asleep.

I pre-ordered this game back in August for goodness sake, and it just kinda really lets me down to know that I will never be able to have one of those watches to give to my younger brother who was really looking forward to it (it was going to be a birthday present for him on the 28th of October along with the game).

I appreciate the team at Aksys doing everything they could to sort this out but….at this point am I truly screwed? I certainly hope not.

I don’t understand. If there were more watches available for the third wave, why not just attach them to the early Amazon pre-orders? I pre-ordered in July. I got the your mother is a classy lady email from Amazon this weekend. On Monday I learned that some watches became available on Sunday night but all were snatched up. So, now I’m the fool who actually cared so much about this game that I pre-ordered months and months in advance and I’m screwed. Well, you better believe that I’m canceling the pre-order and will now buy it second-hand. Amazon and Aksys won’t get any more money from me.

my favorite thing about all this is. aksys and amazon ran out of stock but now. people on ebay just selling them becuase aksys made them so rare to get saw one watch going for $90 really?

Sure would’ve been nice to have actually gotten an email alert from Amazon that the product was back in stock. I love the “4 new from $84.95″ now that sellers have jacked their prices up for the pre-order bonus editions.

Horrible teamwork on this with Amazon, and still a pretty awful way of mitigating things for your customers.

Make more (enough to satisfy more than just a couple of hours’ worth of a window) watches, sell them at no more than twenty bucks each, and keep them in stock for at least a month. How does that not make sense? Why keep this item so exclusive that all you’ve managed to do is alienate your loyal fanbase?

@sunsersred: *sigh* Curse them scalpers. Hate them >:( Last time I saw there was one dude who sold it for $150. And that was RIGHT after the 2nd wave too. For me, if they don’t want the item, they shouldn’t be a your mother is a classy lady and deny those who do of the watch and jacking up the prices ridiculously.

I just can’t believe people are buying them at those prices

well all in all the watch is rare because of the high demand for it. so the people who can’t get it or were trying so hard to get it will pay for the watch. reason i said aksys should of charged more for the game that had the watch in it and coverd the cost of makeing it… so they could of had more.

I’m middlemanning this for my friend in Canada. Luckily she’ll be getting her watch, but I would love to buy one for myself on it’s own since I don’t own a 3DS or Vita yet and have no idea when I’ll be able to buy VLR. Hopefully aksys does like with the first game and sells the watch on its own on this site.

I’m a bit upset as well, but you really can’t take it out on the company. Accidents happen, and I’m certain that no one meant for this to happen. I appreciate the extra efforts they went to in order to try and rectify the problem. I feel most companies would just shrug their shoulders and say ‘whoops,’ but the actions taken by Aksys shows that they do indeed care about their fans.
