If the affection of a specific character doesn't change before the next scenario event, a certain event will occur. Take note that it will only happen if that character's affection towards you isn't high.

At this point, it is possible to go with a path that wasn't the one you selected. The one you do choose is important. Keep in mind, even if you haven't been following the route laid out according to the hints, there are some sections of the game where a path you take might change how the story develops later.
