Well, as far as game flow, I think that Zuisouroku should be next. Since it coincides with the storyline of Fleeting Blossom (well, and "Warriors of the Shinsengumi" too, I guess). I am very interested the prequel, but I prefer not to jump around in time by playing that next, then Zuisouroku afterwards. I hope to play all Hakuoki games though.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't also prioritize the games with romantic scenes, as well. Feeting Blossom was very good so I look forward to another otome or visual novel game.

Zuisouroku, for certain! The first game was amazing, and really made me LOVE the series, but I do admit, I want to see more romance, and a more lighthearted look at the story. Yeah, for definite, I need to see a release of Zuisouroku ASAP! Make it happen Aksys! (Please?)XD
I was pretty disappointed when they announced Warriors of the shinsengumi to be the next game released, but hey, at least we have proof that they are releasing more Hakuoki. So yeah, hopefully they'll bring em all out, but Zuisouroku next. :)

After looking it up online on what consoles they're in, any of those three are fine with me. But I would love if all Hakuouki were released in North America. All that's left for me is to wait and if I don't have that certain gaming console like one for the 3DS or PS3, I will save up money to get that console!
Now that there aren't any games being released in PS2 these days, if Aksys decides to get more Hakuouki games, their only choice is either the PSP or DS versions for Hakuouki Zuisouroku or any other Hakuouki titles. It would be awesome if they release the games in order, according to what I saw on Wikipedia.

I didn't mention this in the previous posts since it's not "officially" part of the Hakuoki franchise, but just for extra information - there is a spinoff series by the Japanese company Princess Crown. It's a series of doujin games, that completely focuses on the romance aspect of Hakuoki.

Whilst these are most likely never going to be english translated/localized, I just thought it was interesting information to know. I think that it's not voiced (as are most doujin games) but I'm not entirely sure. It's for PC, and comes in a 15 + version (without mature scenes) and 18 + (definitely for mature audiences).

I've never played the games since it's quite hard to come by (only for purchase in Japan). Of course, whilst the art is nowhere near as beautiful as Kazuki Yone's (the original artist) I thought it was a pretty good dupe nonetheless.

For more information, check out these links.

1. Kuchihatenu Sakura no: http://vndb.org/v9207
It's basically a spin-off of "Hakuoki SSL" a.k.a. Hakuoki High School.

To daisy-chan and LaFloreale:

Thank you for the insightful comments/replies, since they summed up my exact thoughts! Also for the wonderful CGs, since I was never able to find them. Now others who are searching for them won't have the same problem that I did ^_^"

Whilst I personally wish that all the titles are localized, realistically, then it's probably not going to happen (or at least, not any time soon). The only thing we can really do now is bring attention to it, or spread the word, so that other people may also realise that there ARE other games in the franchise. If there's enough support, then there's the higher chance of seeing them released in english.

In my personal opinion, then Zuisouroku probably has the highest chance of being released next, since it directly relates to Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, and it's easier to attract fans of the original to purchase it. It's more "age friendly" since it aims at a larger target audience and has the "otome aspect" that the first title didn't.

Reimeiroku (my personal favourite) whilst great as a stand-alone game, will definitely be a pain to translate and isn't very import friendly, as LaFloreale said above. Not to mention since it does incorporate darker themes and a higher target audience (the death, blood, gore etc) it may not appeal so much to english localization companies such as Aksys.

Yuugiroku admittedly is cute, but it's definitely the last on my list. I feel like it's just a random bonus that isn't "essentially important" to the Hakuoki storyline, and was created just to earn more revenue for IdeaFactory (since according to various sources, Hakuoki is HUGE in Japan).

There's apparently a massive role-play fanbase, merchandise for all the characters, drama CDs, etc.

LaFloreale said:
I don't have Bakumatsu Musouroku, though, and I probably won't unless I can find it for a reasonable price. I'm not really a fan of beat 'em ups...nor the idea of dragging the series out when there just isn't much else you can do with it. Also, I miss Kazuki... Hakuoki just isn't Hakuoki without her art. :(

From what I've heard, Bakumatsu Musouroku is just an "action game" add on, similar to your typical street fighter/capcom or something along those lines. Whilst it does include the orginial voices of the characters, it sadly doesn't have Kazuki Yone's original art ): I would recommend it for fans of Hakuoki who like collecting all the games, or only if you were to find it at a reasonable price :)

Thank you, Onion-chan and Daisy-chan! I was starting to feel so alone. XD
Yep, if I could choose one, Reimeiroku would definitely be my pick. I'd love to be able to play it in English someday - especially if it were to be done by the same writer who worked on Demon of the Fleeting Blossom.

Personally, I enjoyed the prequel almost as much as I enjoyed the original game, and you've summed up my reasons better than I would have, Onionchan. The first con you listed isn't even a con, as far as I'm concerned! (...although I can see how it might be for translators/editors.)

To me, Hakuoki is a VN first and an otome game second, so personally, I had no problem withthe trade-off. In fact, I really liked the bromance, and the parts with Chizuru were a nice touch. I do agree, though, that there are many who would be disappointed (and understandably so), since this whole thing was supposed to be about otome games.

A few other points to consider:
a) As the one with the largest amounts of text and an actual plot, Reimeiroku is the least import-friendly for non-Japanese speakers
b) Hakuoki still isn't as well-known in the US as it is in Japan, so a game that can stand on its own merits seems a safer bet than a spin-off.
c) Those who HAVE played Shinsengumi Kitan/DotFB and enjoyed the plot, the setting and the characters should be able to appreciate Reimeiroku, regardless of the protagonist's gender (and theirs). Those who were only interested in the otome elements and nothing else probably have a dozen other games they'd rather see before any of these...
<strike>d) I'm biased too. /high five</strike>

I have to say that I love Zuisouroku - I really do. It's got everything one would expect from a fan disc, which is nice for those of us who are already familiar with the series. But like I said in the other topic, "All of them~!" is quite a tall order, especially when we still don't even know how well Hakuoki has been doing. I sincerely hope it's sold well enough to justify bringing over similar games in the future, and to compensate Aksys for taking one for the team. But seriously, there's a difference between taking a worthwhile risk, and making a sacrifice...

...Which brings me to Yuugiroku, IF's shoddy attempt at milking the franchise. No offence to anyone, but I honestly don't see this one being a contender unless it was combined with another game or something. Cute? Sure, but...

Onionchan said:
* It really is just a random add on, with not much substance.

This, pretty much.
What little content it has is actually pretty easyto figure out, even without any knowledge of Japanese. However, at $60+...? I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Just my two pennies' worth as someone who has played these three games.

I agree with all your points, Onionchan. In fact that list states the reasons which make me think that the next Hakuoki title should be Reimeiroku.

Zuisouroku is basically the OVAs that were released with the exception of some romantic scenes with the Shinsengumi you chose and routes for Kondou, Shinpachi and I think that Yamazaki too (but they are very short and doesn't involve romance).

Yuugiroku is quite cute and fun but a friend of mine who bought it regretted it because she spent too much money on a very short game that was very random and she thought it wasn't worth that money. So basically this is my last choice.

Reimeiroku is much more serious but since you are guy you can enjoy things that with Chizuru didn't happen because she was girl and the amount of blood is quite high compared to Hakuoki.
Although this would be a proper visual novel with a guy as the main character, you have a love route (there are 2 endings where Ryunosuke ends up with a girl called Kosuzu). The true epilogues with Chizuru are really cute, I remember me and my friend playing Okita's one and we literally melt with the things Okita said.

I'm probably a little biased with Reimeiroku since I played it with a friend and we loved it. In terms of character development Reimeiroku is better than the original game. Even random things like why does Saitou wear black clothes even in a sunny day or why Okita and Yamazaki hate each other is explained. It is more historically accurate than Hakuoki and is the longest game out of the three options so i would prefer to expend my money on this one.

Well that's just my opinion and of course people can differ.

Onionchan in websites like zerochan or minitokyo you can find CGs for Reimeiroku and 1 or 2 for Yuugiroku.

+ PROS AND CONS OF EACH GAME +

I've actually been meaning to do this for a while ago, but somehow I've just strayed from doing it. I find it troublesome that Aksys Forums don't allow you to edit previous posts, so this one will have to do for now :/

Note - The following are just my own perspective on the positives and negatives for each game. You may or may not have a different opinion to my own.

1. Hakuoki: Zuisouroku (Fan Disc)
+ PROS +
* It's definitely something for the Otome lovers out there, since it includes all the romance that the first title (Demon of the Fleeting Blossom) didn't have.
* It's meant to be played as an "add on" of the first game, so I think chronologically the fan disc should be released next.
* It's just something light, fun and fluffy - something which anyone can enjoy. You don't need to play the first title to have fun with this one, although playing the first title will of course, help you understand the events of the game much better.
* Loads more extra CGs from the original artist (Kazuki Yone). Her art is just beautiful.
* For people who played the first title, this is just some extra "moments" between you and your favourite bachelor, and just makes the whole game so much more enjoyable.
* It just makes the first game feel more so complete.

+ CONS +
* When viewing it as a stand-alone game, there really isn't going to be any new content story wise. It's basically the romantic moments in between the main storyline, so you're really not expecting anything new in that department.
* Length wise, then it is shorter than the first title because there really isn't any new content (as I said above).

2. Hakuoki Yuugiroku (Mini Game)
+ PROS +
* This is definitely the lightest and fluffiest game in the series, and its packed with loads of fun events and mini games.
* The chibis are just adorable, but not only that - they also included some bonus character scenes with the original art from the first title, with the same artist.
* Art wise, then it's the best of both worlds (both chibi + normal CGs)
* For age demographics, then this can be played by all ages.
* It's just something fun to play when you're killing time, and it mostly focuses on the humour aspect.

+ CONS +
* The length of the game is definitely disappointing in comparison to the other games, since it's only 30 mins per character path. In total, the whole game can be completed in an hour.
* There is little to no plot at all. It's just basically the shenanigans with the different characters of the Shinsengumi.
* It really is just a random add on, with not much substance.

3. Hakuoki Reimeiroku (Prequel)
+ PROS +
* This is a completely different story, and can definitely be enjoyed on its own without purchasing any of the other games.
* Length wise, then its actually longer than the original title.
* Unlike the other titles, this is an actual Visual Novel. Meaning, it mainly focuses on the immense build up of story, rather than anything else.
* It's something that can appeal to all audiences, since it is not an "otome game" like the original.
* It gives players of the original game an insight to all the characters and their inner conflicts, whilst explaining the origins of the Shinsengumi.
* Not only that, but it includes the "true epilogue" of the paths in the original game, so we end up knowing Chizuru's true fate with which ever guy you chose.
* Loads of beautiful art as always, from the original artist.

+ CONS +
* The text heavy-ness can be rather daunting, and it's actually much darker (angst and theme wise) than the original title.
* Otome lovers may feel deterred by this title, since it focuses on forming friendships with each of the members of the Shinsengumi. You play as an all new guy character, not a girl.

I would definitely buy the side story because it gives that deeper side to the story that all the fangirls were waiting for in the romance part.

Hakuoki Zuisouroku, is the one I would love to have come to the USA next, Demon of the fleeting cherry blosom was good, but I'm the type to love romance otome games more, and plus it kinda falls in order to be next. I hope Akys will translate this game for PSP (please psp or vita) or vita or DS, seeing as how ps2 is pretty much coming to a end in the USA. Once I saw the cg's on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.214676728573024.56541.147802678593763&type=3 I went fangirl crazy lol.

Seen the anime (funsubs) of the TV series, OVAs, heck even the hilarious SSL clips!!! (Seeing the Hakuoki dudes in modern day Japanese high school setting was so refreshing to see!!)

I see Zuisoroku has the majority of votes thus far...but for me, it's just the game version of the OVAs, so it doesn't interest me as much because i've already "seen" part/s of it.

So i'm totally achin' for Yuugiroku ---> it's just so cuuuute! It's got stuff i've never seen before...and i just adore their chibi-versions...
