Hmm...might go with the Hauppauge for the console recording then.

Going to be awhile before I get Premiere then, as I am a bit low on funds.

^^Yep. I think they make a "light" version if you don't need the full suite. As for using a capture card with PS360, it shouldn't be an issue. That what we do here.

Just remembered that since this computer was built from scratch, I don't have Windows Movie Maker. Magna, just to be sure, you're referring to Adobe Premiere?

I just tried out CamStudio and it's somewhat simple to use, and it's not as taxing on my computer, so I think I'll use that for my PC recording.

For editing, you could probably get away with the Windows Movie Maker, though it is craptastic. If you don't have a Mac, Premiere will probably be your best bet. There's also Avid, but it's really pricey...

For recording, you'll need a decent video capture card. We use the Black Magic card here, but it can be a PITA to set up. Once it works it captures really clean video.

1. There's plenty of options to record from the computer. I don't actually record from the computer so I only know second-hand information. Some of the most popular choices is stuff like Fraps, Hypercam 2, and Camtasia.

Although remember you're playing a game and recording at the same time....on the same machine. You'll be taxing the computer more than usual doing both at the same time. So expect stuff like lag to be normal if your computer isn't strong enough to handle it.

2. I used to use the default editing software that was on my computer. It was called something like Windows Movie Maker or something like that. Although about two months ago the program crashed on me.....repeatedly....for over a week of trying to make it work....dot dot dot. So I had to get a good replacement program. I'm now using Magix Movie Edit Pro MX Plus. It's extremely complex with lots of options. I haven't made anything with it though so I can't tell you about the quality in any way. Still trying to learn how to use the thing.

It's not really necessary for me either, but I wanted to do those Let's Play videos on Youtube or something to entertain myself (not sure I'd do commentary, as I'd likely not have confidence in doing so nor do I have anything to record my voice.)

lol, I was thinking the same here too, but that'll take a long time to do...which is not really necessary for me at the moment. For your questions...

1. You mean like Fraps or something?

2. IDK, something like Camtasia? (I know Movie Maker is cheap to work with, but only gets small things done.)

Wow... 8 months has passed since I started this topic... with all the games and other purchases I've made, it's still going to be a while before I start recording things. I've decided to go with the one you got, but I have to ask two questions.

1. Is their a program I can use to record stuff on my PC?

2. Is their a cheap program to edit the movies?

I'm no expert, but I think any card will work. I'm using the default one in my computer which is pretty meh.

^Wow! The picture quality is insane.
I guess I have only one question. I'm currently doing an overhaul on my PC to handle HD. Are there any graphics cards you recommend that meets the minimum to get the same quality you have with your Hauppauge, or will any HD card pretty much give the same results?
I just installed a 700wt. PSU and will probably upgrade elsewhere to get a little more oomph. It's a long overdue tune up...

I have a little bit of experience with this. I used to try with a DVD recorder. That was a mistake. I had lots of issues with that. I would not advise that at all.

After that I jumped to an HD PVR. This is the one I got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018LX0DY/ref=wms_ohs_product

This has served me well for a while now. It's expensive, but has not given me much trouble. It records my PS3, Wii, and PSP stuff with little issue. With the default settings I can record each platform with little issue. Although if I tried to record something older than that I DO have trouble. The default settings aren't set for something non-component cable.

I recorded all the videos. I'm using component cables for each one FYI.

I looked into the gamer version of the HD PVR. It doesn't seem worth the extra money. It's slightly more convenient, but the the one I got does the same stuff with slightly less convenience.

Most users say to say save a bit and go to the next step up, though...

There's another brand called Hauppauge that seems pretty solid. They have a "gaming edition" ...lol:

Nyaa...I've been looking into video recording some of my games for awhile now, but haven't really looked into what kind of recorder I should get. If anyone can give me suggestions on easy to use recorders, I would appreciate it nyaa. Something under $200 though nyaa.

Was looking into recording PS3 and 360, and possibly my PsP games nyaa.
