It comes out a few days after my birthday! XD Best birthday present ever!
Just to let anyone know, if you're buying the first season from Right Stuf, it'll will be at $35.99 for now but when it reaches close to it's release date, it'll raise up to $44.99 so pre-order as soon as possible. In fact, pre-order this month! It's better to get it cheap early!
As a frequent shopper and have pre-ordered DVDs also licensed by Sentai, I noticed that pattern. The moment it get close to it's release date, they'll raise the price.
I'm curious which recording studio Sentai will use. I heard it's cheaper to do it in-house but since it's based off of a video game and the majority of video games from Japan are dubbed in LA. The PSP only came out japanese audio only, so I have half a mind that the anime will be dubbed by Bang Zoom! Entertainment (since some of the anime they licensed/re-licensed are dubbed by Bang Zoom). That is if Aksys decides to get more Hakuouki games for North America.
I could be wrong about Bang Zoom! dubbing Hakuouki but I guess I'm gonna have to wait and see if there's any news on the anime.

so, the English version of the anime will be using DotFB terminology as well. Hmmm...

To be honest, I'm not really excited about the anime itself so much as I am about the new batch of fans I'm expecting it to introduce to the game series. I am grateful to Sentai Filmworks for finally picking it up, though, so I'll definitely be getting this. Last year, they re-licensed Grave of the Fireflies, and now, they've licensed Hakuoki... I'm starting to like them!

Wow, so that's why the subs on the Hakuouki DVD I bought were so off...and the subtitles were in Chinese, English, or Malaysian. Well at least I know not to make this same mistake again, and its a good thing it didn't cost a lot.

Rinda said:
Finally! I've seen Dvd sets that are subtitled in English, but I've always suspected that they were probably bootlegs. Now I'll be able to buy them.

If you're thinking of buying more anime DVDs, not only be aware of the English and Chinese subtitles and region free, if it's made in Hong Kong or Taiwan, the DVD is 100% a bootleg. No anime DVDs licensed by any anime companies in the US would ever be produced in Asia.

Anyways, I frequently visit the DVD Talk Forum and according to that website, Hakuoki (1st season) might be out on DVD by September of this year but I'm not sure if it's true.

Sentai hasn't done any limited sets, so I doubt they will for this either. Still, better than nothing :) And yeah, those DVDs were definitely bootlegs. The best way to tell is if it has English AND Chinese subs. I can't think of ONE title that officially does. Oh, and also if it's region free, that's the dead giveaway.

I think that when they saw how well that Hakuoki sold they were probably surprised. I'll bet a lot of people on here also started buying Hakuoki merchandise from places like Cd Japan, Play Asia, Ebay, etc. When these companies saw that a lot of merchandise was being sold to people oversees, they realized that there was a market outside of Japan for it, now we will be able to start seeing more Hakuoki items being released. At least that's my theory. I'm hoping that they will release the manga and the art books as well. A lot of the other Hakuoki games are being sold for about $100.00 on Ebay. So, I'm hoping that Aksys can get the rest of the games released here too.

Via ANN:

Sentai Filmworks will release the Haku?ki television anime series on bilingual DVD. The anime adapts Idea Factory's Haku?ki Shinsengumi Kitan romance adventure game from Otomate, Idea Factory's brand aimed at female players. The story of the game and its anime adaptation center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century. Sentai Filmworks told ANN that it will release "all of Haku?ki that is out right now." The Haku?ki anime franchise includes the 12-episode Haku?ki series, the 10-episode sequel series Haku?ki Hekketsu-roku, and the 6-episode Haku?ki Sekkaroku OVA series (the sixth episode will ship this June). The franchise also includes an upcoming prequel television anime series that will premiere this summer and two upcoming films that will premiere in 2013.

So looks like they'll be releasing all of it! Nice! I wonder if the game coming out helped pushed them towards localizing it?
