Really? The Paris stage? Then how do you explain the glowing, floating orb thing in the background? That does not look like Middle Ages technology to me.

That is just my opinion. No way in hell am I completely ignoring the franchise as a whole. Besides, canon is subject to change. Take, for example, Castlevania. Four games were retconned out of existence once Iga said so. The Zelda franchise, at one point, went like this, according to an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto; "Ocarina of Time is the first game in the story, then the original Zelda, then Zelda II, and finally A Link To The Past. It's not very clear where Link's Awakening fits in; it could be anytime after Ocarina of Time". But, that changed pretty fast, and it's actually been announced that this is NOT the correct timeline anymore; they changed it, to whatever it is that they are hiding from fans. Ishiwatari holds all rights to do that, as well. As he should. If he doesn't, then good for him. I just feel it warrants two seperate universes, or two seperate franchises. I don't want to get in big fights over how I feel the 3D Overture games should be handled.

Good for you, you actually did your homework...or did you?

Alot can happen in FIVE YEARS PRIOR TO THE ORIGINAL SERIES YA THINK?

Did you play the game at all?

Why don't you ask DI what happened in FIVE YEARS...

DI explained that GG2 is the same universe as the prequel, so don't argue with the DI because YOU CAN'T HE's THE F'N DIRECTOR. GG is known for it's unusual characters and universe? THE OTHER CHARS DO EXIST IN IT DI SAID, NOT JUST SOL AND KY.

The orb in Paris is your explanation of tech? Um what do we call divine energy that helps alot of things work in GG (like Zepp flying in the air).............um...MAGIC

If you don't know this I advise you to THOURALY read the story mode and descriptions on all parts of GG games.

The GG universe "MAGIC" is described to be like that in the "Tales" series (like Tales of Symphonia) only more advanced.

No, it's new york with the ruins of the Statue of Liberty. It is not repeated on next installment of the series.
Take a look here (http://www.guiltygear.ru/gallery.php) for the old backgrounds: they're the best ones.
Also, try to get the first GG on ebay (it is easy to find) because it's the better rpisode of the saga, even if the gameplay is heavy unbalance.

i will tell what i do think: yes, the story and concept on GG is important, and it's one of the element that I think makes a difference from others Fighting games, and that I like most, BUT
1)The creators of the game have the last words

If you can't stand GG2 being the sequel then just ignore the GG franchise. It would do you and the world better if you weren't paranoid about one little sequel (that you can't believe SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much).

...You're trying to bring logistics of who is most powerful storyline-wise? That's kind of sad. Sol and Ky can easily be "dumbed down". What you described is just silly. By that logic, Rachel should be super-high tier and unbeatable, with Nu close behind. By that logic, Bang should be in the lowest of the low, as he is far too silly to be taken seriously or to win in a match, as he is too "Satan/Hercule" like.

Well maybe I went to far with Ky but NOT Sol Badguy.

Seeing how That Man is a very powerful character Sol's GEAR form is controlable now so and can damage That Man (or atleast I think) I don't see any competition.

I should have said BB vs GG will never happen anytime soon. (not because of character strengths) but because right now independent sequels (or revisions) are being worked on. Maybe will see BB vs GG near 2012 WHO F'N KNOWS I CAN'T PREDICT ANYTHING *cry*.

VioletWitch said:

That doesn't mean...ugh, forget it! I doubt that the entire post-apocalyptic world they lived in could have been so fixed up in just five years. Does that mean that the real-life United Kingdom is SUPPOSED to be medieval? It's a kingdom, so it HAS to be, right!? The Kingdom of Spain HAS to be medieval, right? No. Kingdom's can be modern and not medieval. Think for a second.

I admit I was wrong about the "Kingdom" thingy. But if you'd listen to Fenrir at least, it is true that having such technology is illegal in GG. In the exeption of Zepp and rulers of the countries. The only other people that use it are PWAB and they use it illegally aswell. I don't think just cause Ky is a King their not gonna give him VIP technology.

If you played the other games (2D series) the cities and stages looked more medevil than GG2. Most of them didn't have technology in them.

Paris looked more like Ky's kingdom then anything else.

and no I'm not saying EVERY Kingdom is supposed to look medevil. (or I shouldn't have said).

Is this reason enough for you???

Ther's no discussion: GGII IS the REAL sequel of the first and original GG, as the title said. The plot finally goes on (after 10 years of waiting); the charachters are the essenzial ones (ky and sol, raven and that man);
Crytizing the style of the game is stupid, since it's the style of GG: look at the backgroungs of the first GG and tell me if they are not medieval-like (consider that, in the GG plot, tecnology is a crime).

Okay. *looks* They are not medieval-like. They really, really aren't. Where's my check?

HAAAAAaaah.... Another dissapointed fan trying to discourage Daisuke in HIS great work. I take it that you never played GG2:O because know matter what you say DI said Guilty Gear 2: Overture is (and will always be) the sequel to it's 2D franchise.

Let me explain to you (Because if you played the game you'd know the setting)

The game takes place in the new country Illyria where Ky Kiske resides as KING (meaning it's gonna look medevil because it's a KINGDOM)Note: It does not take place in America where you see most of the modern technology in the X series resides.

The place you call the "Underworld" is called the "Backyard" which is a place that certain people on GG have gained access to (wich is noted as "HELL" on the X series)

Fenrir said:

One last thing: it is not me that proclame GG overture the real sequel for the franchise: if you go in the japanese site home, the f?rst thing you can read after the short intro is :PS1"?????????????????????????"
" after 9 years from the PS1 Guilty gear...?the long awaited from fans new chapter (of GG)"

I know they SAY that, but to me, it just feels like a spinoff.

Here is my honest opinion of the game.

Ishiwatari, your Overture game is not BAD, per se, but it's by no means a Guilty Gear game that is deserving of being the "true sequel", as this world is such a radical 180 from the games in the past. It is not the "true sequel" that you claim it is. I am sorry to say this, but everything feels so completely different that this instead needs to be either one of two things:

A) Turn the Overture series into it's own franchise.

Call it a different name, with the supposed GG III being titled "Overture 2" without the "Guilty Gear". Focus on a different character, make a new person up, build a different story around it. After all, since the Post-War Administration Bureau is hardly ever talked about, it's almost as if no Great War has gone on. Just make something up, and make Overture a wholly different game series.

B) Turn Overture into a spin-off franchise.

Make some kind of explanation up for why Sol and Ky are in such radically different realms such as this kingdom. Turn this whole "Illyria" place into an alternate universe. Maybe while I-No was causing problems, these two got sucked into a parallel dimension, where they've been stuck for some odd years. You can make a few games about them trying to escape from this world, but also save it. At the end of it (perhaps Overture 3, or whenever), you can end the spin-off series with Sol and Ky finding their way back to the world that was their home.

Bottom line, Overture is not a bad game. It's just not a Guilty Gear game, no matter what any of you say. I personally find Ishiwatari to be lying and must be high as a kite to expect me to believe that Overture is a "true" continuation of the franchise. Now, if we can now get back on topic, I believe we were talking about the BB sequel.

Singaki said:

NOTE: GG vs BB.......I don't know about that.....The current GG characters (or at least Sol and Ky) are too overpowered for any BB char with the exception of Rachele and Terumi.....srry not anytime soon.

About the gameplay: yes, it is not a 2d game, and so? The spirit is the same: Daisuke tried to make on 3d what he have done with 2d: create a multiplayer experience.
I'm not lying: just check his interview. You can't like it, i can't critic you, but this is how it is.
If I have to say my opinion, when GG passed on SEGA, and useless clone titles of XX comes out (isuka etc), i belived that it was the end of GG. Now Daisuke has made something that I have only dreamed of; ok, it's not perfect, but I believe that next chapter will be a masterpiece.
Oh, and if you're searching for a good review, I can suggest this one (http://insomnia.ac/reviews/xbox360/guiltygear2overture/).
Last thing: finally GGII will come in Europe on 4 september. after that date, if someone wants to make a match let me know...

Grr...Daisuke, how many times do I have to say it; the Overture series constitutes a brand new franchise. Let's face it, does Overture look ANYTHING like the world the other GG games took place in? It's far too medieval and mystical with grassy plains and majestic castles, a far cry from the ruined cities, the hellish and dark Underworld, etc. Unless the entire game takes place near Bridget's home town, this is NOT a GG game. Not in my book. This is a new franchise called "Overture", that has absolutely nothing to do with Guilty Gear aside from two or three characters, and the title.

GG 2 didn't feel like GG game because of it's setting but the new and returning characters made up for the familloar attitudes.

GG2 is a game worth trying Sites have given it an 8/10. I love that DI is working on the next installment and can't wait for it. I didn't like the Orchaestrated music but HELL I LOVED THE YOSHIHIRO AND DI METAL/ROCK MUSIC THE GAMES KNOWN FOR.

NOTE: Triora isn't a part of Illyria it is the land of the Withes and Ganyemade is a remote island Dr. Paradigm has taken refuge on.

Now, back to the BB Sequel. It's going to be a while until they start up with that. We are essentially getting a revision with the European release (according to rumors, anyways), and Mori is probably getting pressure for an eventual BB vs. GG game in addition to a sequel. Let him pass off a revision or two, and I'm sure he'll get started eventually.

You do know that BB has already planed a sequel right?

Besides the Story would'n have left off just at the ending. (which says to be continued)

This BB just came out don't expect a sequel so fast...(Unless Mori is a god at speed making and Daisuke is very fast at recording BB songs for new characters)

Oh all I'm saying is to give it a wait.

I just wanted to post a forum that will hopefully get to the developers to make a second installment to the BlazBlue series. I loved the first one, the sotry, the music, the characters, the twists, and yes, the boobie lady, lol. Anyway, the game left off on a note that makes me hunger for more of the game. I won't spoil it, but I hope we can see more the Ragna and Noel story fleshed out as well as Jin's and Rachel's.

I've played a lot of 2D fighters, and I never enjoyed them as much as I have this game. Everything was so well done that it felt a crime not to support a sequel and to let my voice be silent in the praisal of this masterpiece. Thank you for such a great game and I eagerly await the next title in the series.
