CSII is coming in the form of a patch and the three DLC characters.
A patch released around the same time as Platinum the Trinity.
As of right now it is supposed to be released sometime this spring.
And yes, it will be free. Or at least, that was what they led us to believe.
So this patch will also include the arcade mode for the DLC characters and possibly also an arcade mode for mu-12?
That information was not given. Just that the characters would be delivered by DLC as well as the patch. Anything beyond that point is still an uncertainty.
I hope they will get an arcade mode ... or at least they could add the DLC chars to the legion mode.
SPRING 2011? LOL! So what you're saying is that at least 75% of us have absolutely ZERO reason to pay attention to this game until spring? I mean, we have an obsolete version, can't practice any new stuff and don't even have the last DLC character. Were you guys drinking when you came up with this decision? I thought we were getting this patch in december(that's why I held off from practicing). Now it's MONTHS away and all the rest of us can do is look through the japanese arcade window to see them pass by everyone else ONCE AGAIN in the practice department. Arcades in other regions are practically extinct. I'm so hurt by this news these words can't describe my anger.
*Puts obsolete game back in it's jewelcase, into the closet and prepares to play games that are actually relevant*

Obsolete? Define how CS is obsolete. What are you talking about? It's just a patch in spring that gives an arcade mode for the DLC characters and rebalance. People still play it as it is... And Aksys doesn't "come up with this decision". It's Arc that does it all.
Yeah really, I played CT regularly until CS was released over a year later with no promise of FREE updates at any time. And by the time I got CS it had already been in Japanese arcades for about 6 months. If anything you should be grateful that you're even getting anything for free not to mention in less time than it took between the last gap. I'm bored with Hazama and was hoping to give Platinum a try as my new main and having to wait longer to learn the character than I thought I would is really lame but that in no way makes CS in anyway obsolete.
I'm pretty sure that what he means by "obsolete" is simply that we don't have the most recent patch, thus making the current version outdated in a way. That said, if none of the players on consoles have it, competitive play is still perfectly viable with the version we have. There should be no sudden discrepancy in practice until the console patch is launched, at which point, as he mentioned, the Japanese players will have had a lot more experience with the patch and will have a definite advantage for a while - but that's just a matter of time, and it's not like we can't study exactly what the patch has changed. In summary, we all have plenty of reasons to pay attention until Spring, and it's not a crime if you don't.

Well, I'm one of the few that doesn't have CS YET and it would be nice not to have to PAY in order to get II. But it does suck that all of the DLC characters aren't available unless you pay for them for CS I. That really bites...especially when they won't be usable in Story mode AT ALL until II next February.
As far as we know, the CSII patch itself is 100% free. As for the characters, what better time to get the DLC than when it's on sale? Both currently available ones are going to be nearly half off when the DLC sale starts. I don't mean to be a talking advertisement, just thought I'd throw out that suggestion.
On the off chance that anyone (grandabx) here doesn't know the difference between a jewel case and a keep case...

Why would you spend time practicing an older version of a game when what you've learned may not work anymore? alot of those combos/strategies that you do NOW either may not work or are not optimal. Characters got new moves/combos you can't do AT ALL. why practice with noel when most of her move properties have changed? you have to then get rid of bad habits of doing things that may not possible anymore.
it's a seriously dumb idea to think most people are going to wait around that long when so many other fighting games are coming out.
have fun waiting for MONTHS. The japanese get to test the game, but the rest of us can't? this isn't some physical game they are making. it's DLC. alienating customers isn't good for business.
Couldn't they also release this as the greatest hits version of Continuum Shift while also making the patch DLC?
That way the people wanting it on a disc can have it and the people that have internet can also have it.
Why the hell would a patch be DLC all of a sudden? none of the other patches have been DLC, just the extra character's. It's insane to think they would actually charge you for a patch to the game, no company is insane enough to do that. It's a goddamn balance patch, what the hell are you talking about when you suggest we won't be seeing it for MONTHS, besides if someone has stopped playing the game by that point, they weren't really that into it to begin with.
