Generally my favourite games are ones that manage to impress me with the atmosphere and/or story. I'd like to give more visual novels a try, if they're not general dating-sim types. Higurashi actually parodies the genre a bit, and Umineko has none of that, even though love is an important aspect of it.

Perhaps if we get enough votes for La Pucelle: Ragnarok, we can convince Aksys to try localizing it?

I'm not too sure about how successful this could be...

There are some games released over the Japanese Playstation Network store that are actually PC Engine games running using an emulator for the PS3.

I've seen a few and have wondered if they'd be too niche or obscure to be brought successfuly to this side of the pond.

That's the weird suggestion. An equally strange suggestion that I think could work, would be to have the Aksys staff look at let's say, three games, analyze the possibilities of success and difficulty of a localization and launch a poll campaign. Something along the lines of "We have seen these three games. Which one would you like to see over here?" and gauge the response that way.

While I think it's awesome that there is a response in bringing Arcana Heart 3, even if only for the PS3 (I curse thee, Microsoft!), maybe a poll could serve to both create hype and inform the staff.

If NISA couldn't localize it, I doubt anyone else will. From what I understand, the issue is disputes with Mastiff over the La Pucelle rights, and if they don't want to give them up then it doesn't matter which company gives it a shot.

I think this is a cool idea. It could use some refining (they'd have to check with Sony/Microsoft/whoever to see if release would be possible first, among other things), but I like the general concept of fans seeing what games companies are looking at and helping in the selection process.

The poll idea sounds great. I think Umineko would kill the others though.

    White Album for the US!

    Yes.

    Figured this was noteworthy news:
    Deathsmiles nears 100,000 sales
    http://www.mcvuk.com/news/43142/Deathsmiles-nears-100000-sales

That's sales between Japan and U.S. Pretty cool! Hope that encourages Cave to bring more out here.

Pretty sure the JP version is at 40-50k which means the US version matched it. Good news, right? Doesn't this prove that the genre can be profitable in NA? With these numbers you would think Aksys would jump at the opportunity to push out more - DeathSmiles IIX, DoDonPachi Resurrection, DoDonPachi Daioujou, and Ketsui are all region-locked, all likely require less localization work than something like Record of Agarest War, could potentially match or do much greater than DeathSmiles.

But wouldn't that help those who want it, myself included?

Yes, my idea would require that kind of refining. The end purpose would be to give Aksys a way to have a more informed view of what we as consumers are more likely to receive, as opposed to "Will it blend?" (sorry, couldn't resist)

Maybe my idea is "way out there", but I'd like the people at Aksys to consider it, and if viable, to use it. It would be a win-win situation for both them and us.

There is a wealth of good Japanese games that never get translated on the grounds of uncertainty when bringing them over. Why play the hit or miss game?

Like I said, I don't "Think" it would flop. Not I "know" it won't. We need a true test. Yes, I am aware how stick up the rectum Sony is with the genre, and personally, it pisses me off, but I still think they would do well. There just isn't enough story games this gen, and as John Pickett said from Manga Gamer, one thing alot complain about in JRPGs is constant grinding. One can think of it, like a JRPG, without the grinding, and more choices open to you.

Alas, the PS3 will never "Only do everything". Until Sony allows the PS3 to do Visual Novels in English, which is included in "everything", I will never stand by their ridiculous slogan.

I thought it'd be worth noting I used that thing about visual novels in English and PS3 doing only everything in a school assignment thing about marketing.
I pretended that I had a console competing against PS3 and marketed that as a weakness.

That is pretty freaking awesome, haha. It is most definitely a weakness to me.

Who says they aren't, just because they didn't anounce anything yet, doesn't mean they never will. Besides I remember Cave mentioning talking with "overseas publishers" with the Xbox360 ports, so they could still be in discussions.

Anyway the article mentioning the 100,000 sales shows promise.

Aksys, please bring Students of The Round for the XBox360 and Elminage 3 for the PSP here. First person dungeon crawling deserves a chance.

People tend to give up on these sorts of things too quickly, if you ask me. Sometimes games don't get released in North America until five years after the Japanese release (Sakura Wars 5, Legend of Heroes: Trails In The Sky FC), so I think it's kind of silly to give up after just a year.

DeathSmiles IIX, hands down. And every other Cave shooter ever.

Catherine, if Atlus chooses not to publish it stateside themselves, which would be sad.
