I don't think they were so much trying to attack or convert him as they were simply explaining why there's enough value to justify the price tag for them personally. No harm in that. It's all about perceived value in this industry, anyway.Have any other games in this series been localized at all? I'm new to VNs and this seems like a good place to start.
There is an English patch for Remember11, and I'm working on the Never7 English patch as its translator. Other than that, no.
This sounds pretty cool. We need a VN on home consoles.
>It should also be noted that the "skip already read" function is flawed in Ever17.
One should not make any assumptions about the upcoming title based on how the old PC version was. This is a remake after all, the new engine they use will definitely be much more capable than whatever one experienced in the PC version. Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head have excellent skip functions, and I do not doubt Ever 17 will too.

I suppose I forgot to add that I too, am one of those people who enjoy going online and earning Prestige. ;)
I voted no.
I'm all for VN coming stateside. I don't think is the one that'll break the ice. The premises of the story don't interest me and in fact rub me the wrong kind of Daphne in the Brilliant Blue way.
I loved Ever17 so I don't really have a reason to say no. lol.

Oh? I thought the exact opposite. I've already played the game, but I really want this to be localized because this would be the best VN to break the ice for actual VNs among mainstream gamers. Did you base your judgment on the 'people are trapped in an underground theme park and try to escape' premise? Because the VN is very different from what it sounds like.

He's got a point. it's the premise that determines whether a sale will be made. People will only find out about the plot details after they've laid down the money.
Yes and no. When people see it randomly on a store shelf, it's the premise that counts. However, especially with relatively obscure titles such as VNs, a lot of sales come from people hearing it's good and trying it out themselves. I'm thinking the latter effect would make it the best VN to break the ice.
I mean, for the people who have played Ever17 here, why did you start playing it? I'm quite sure that for most of us, the fact that people say it's amazing was one of the main reasons, if not the only reason. I know at least I tried it despite not being very interested in the premise just because it was so highly rated on vndb.

I started playing it because I heard it was an amazing game, because I actually did think the premise sounded interesting, and I was curious if it was as confusing and as good as everyone said. Needless to say, it far exceeded my expectations.

I said the 360 version could improve on it. I also lub my Cod (with friends), but that doesn't get your message across (at least from my experiences).
I gotta wonder why this is being made for 360 though. Isn't that really unpopular in Japan? Maybe they wanna hit a broader audience in America? :D

For some reason, a lot of niche shooters and VNs end up 360-exclusive in Japan. Most of them don't come to the states, so it's never safe to assume that just because something is on 360 they're looking to attract the American market. By that logic, why would developers still make PSP games in America? Regardless of how small the market is, if it's profitable people will tap it.
The reason this is being made on the Xbox 360 is because the company making the remake, 5pb., likes to publish its VNs on the Xbox 360. The reason for this is because the 360 sells horribly in Japan, so there has to be some sort of draw to it for people to actually buy it and play games on it.

Yes.
Honestly I rather see either of the Dream C Club or Gal*Gun come over first.
All the VN that interest me are on PS2 (Strawberry Panic, School Days LxH, Shuffle! On The Stafe, Higurashi, Cross Channel, ETC)

Guess so, just not sure if there's enough people like you guys for Aksys to justify localizing.

Yes, please. Though I doubt we'll see Dream Club now that Namco owns D3 :(
Unless maybe if we send them 50k emails

Answering VDZ's question. I started playing Ever17 because I wanted to play a visual novel and I heard that this was amazing and had brick-shitting twists. Hearing that it's the type of plot that absolutely cannot be spoiled to newbies, I got very curious very fast.

Cross Channel
Cross Channel is getting a 360 port. It has additional content, but it's not a full remake.
But, I'm very concerned about Cross Channel's mainstream appeal. Cross Channel is another one of the games I checked out because I heard good things about it (although much less so than Ever17), and to be honest, I didn't like it. It has a deep plot with very deep character interactions, but I think the average Phoenix Wright/999 player might find it boring. The recommendation effect also seems a lot less strong than with Ever17; whereas I used to hear how good Cross Channel was every now and then before it was fan translated, I rarely hear about it anymore nowadays, while Ever17 remains 'that one VN you should have already played and if you haven't yet then leave this place to avoid spoilers and play it immediately' in some of the internet communities I visit.
Or they could test the the waters for this market by release the 360 version and the PSP version of Cross Chanel at the same time, see how they compare against each other.
Guessing the PSP version would destroy the 360 version, just makes more sense on portables, would make the highest level of sense on mobile platforms, hoping to see lots of VN's on Android and hopefully some in english
