I just read that AH3 is going to be PSN only. I'm not going to bother buying it unless there's a blu-ray release. Obviously I'm not a fan of DL only games and I'm sure there are other people that aren't. All the other countries though are getting blu-ray releases of the game so why are we the ones being left out? Please just release the game on blu-ray in US.

Aksys clearly isn't confident there will be enough purchases or something like that on disc, and they need to have a dub for a disc release.Posted 1 year ago # -

You're the one to complain. What about Xbox users?

if Japanese voiceovers are included, Sony will not accept disk based games that don't include English voiceovers.
In order to be accepted on Disk, they would need to make a full voice translation for the game OR remove the japanaese voices from the disk, due to ps3 policies.
*Full English voice translation is too much work for a game that 100% surely wouldn't sell enough to compensate the extra effort, and the prints of the discs!
*and removing the Japanese voiceovers is a lose scenario that would hurt more the sales than help it.
Also it's very costly selling disk based games, not to mention packaging, manufacturing, shipping, etc.
Especially for a series that has yet to prove it can sell good enough in the west in these modern times, this is the one and only opportunity to release Arcana Heart 3 in the west without suffering a major loss from investing in a blu-ray disk release that wouldn't sell more than as a downloadable game.
Aksys chose the best option for Arcana Heart 3. And people who know better already realize this and appreciate Aksys's decision. ^_^
If it wasn't for them and choosing PSN Store, this probably would have never been localized in North America.
Also Downloadable games on PSN is much more advantageous.1. There is virtually infinite supply of the game by being sold on a digital marketplace like PSN Store, and more potential in sales over time due to no shortages of copies to sell. (so people don't need to ebay for it and get ripped off from overpriced or damaged copies when it becomes hard to find.) In this way, the game can reach and meet optimal demands from consumers much longer than any local store disk release.
2. Harddrives last longer than a disk would, and can take a little more punishment (disks are very sensitive and easy to permanently scratch), and hardrives are harder to lose or misplace since they are inside the console.
3. No need to go to the disk rack to pull out a game. Just turn on your PS3 and play thanks to downloadable game convenience. If you know where your PS3 is, you know where Arcana Heart 3 is.
4. Less risk of piracy and illegal copies. Pirates find it easier to rip data off disk than from a secure online store, which gives some pirates good reason to buy the game instead of stealing it (just imagine if everyone could obtain any game for free, would they buy games anymore? Disks will still be around, but the digital market is much better for players and companies as well. )
5. No need to travel to store to buy it. Just download, own it and start playing it in a matter of minutes!
6. Digital Download SAVES players lots of money too! If this was a disk based game it would sell for no less than $60 new. But day 1, thanks to advantages of digital downloads and PSN Store and Aksys, Arcana Heart 3 will only be sold about half the price of a new fighting game, and still contain all of the content, features and gameplay!
People save money and Aksys saves money too from packaging/manufacturing/manual/etc. costs that adds up. It's a win-win situation and will convince more people to buy it.
7. if it was a $50-60 disk based release, it wouldn't have as much sales potential. And there's no way selling it for less than $50 as a disk based released would cover the costs and potential losses of sales since Arcana Heart 3 is up against heavy competition and ignorant western criticisms. For only $30-40, it's a huge bargain buying it at that price and more would be convinced to buy it over a $60 priced game.
8. Digital downloads are easier to recover and replace directly from PSN Store. In order to replace a broken disk, you either have to find a new copy or order it somewhere online, lots of time wasted and extra money spent, whereas PSN allows you to redownload games you bought at no extra cost. Much more convenient and better.
Generally the only people that want a disk based copy are those that just want to sell it for profit or just a collector that don't even play the game as much as others would.

There's a pretty good chance Aksys doesn't have a say in the matter, you know.Pretty much this. I've never seen Aksys pass up on a disc release if it was possible (although this may be a first, who knows?) I'm willing to bet it's another victim of the no-dub, no-disc policy.

Of course the Yakuza series seem to be an exception to this policy that everyone seems to assume they know. It's more of matter of just placing the blame on someone cause Record of Agarest War Zero won't have a dub and will be a disc release. What of that one? It is being localized by Aksys.

While it's true that no one knows for sure that it exists, it seems quite feasible. As for RoAW Zero, I remember reading that Sony wasn't pleased with the immense filesize of the first one. Assuming the no-disc policy does exist, perhaps that has something to do with it.

I really don't think Aksys would price this at $60 if it were a disc release. And as far as I'm aware they haven't released the price, the $29.99 price was mentioned as not being the final price.

if this game was coming on blu-ray it would also be coming on the 360 on DVD. if you want it on blu-ray buy the Japanese or European version

It's more convenient for consumers and less risky for Aksys.
If Aksys sold a disk based version for less than $60 or $50, they would lose a lot of money (but it's not like most people here care if a company loses more money than makes money, most consumers only think about themselves. )

Hmmm... makes me wonder how Continuum Shift ended up doing, since that was a retail release for less than $50.

There's a pretty good chance Aksys doesn't have a say in the matter, you know.Yeah, I hear you on that one. Although if given the choice, Sony will always choose DLC over having an actual disc. Microsoft... well, I've seen them get more discs than Sony lately so maybe just hold out until they announce it. I'm sure they'll give it a run on at least ONE format, either one or the other. Speaking of which, when is it supposed to be here?

I get the feeling Aksys doesn't really have a say in the matter with this one. Better to get a digital release than nothing at all, even though I dislike download-only games, at least, from Sony. Valve, on the other, hand, is awesome with Steam, since they actually have sales and stuff to make it like a real market instead of seeign it as a way to take control of content that I bought and paid for.
