Cave is releasing Deathsmiles 2X in N.A.

Aksys may have released Deathsmiles in North America, but Cave is taking care of Deathsmiles 2X themselves. The news comes from the ESRB, which rated Deathsmiles 2X and listed Cave as the publisher. Check out our playtest for more on Deathsmiles 2X.

While Cave is building a greater presence in the West, the Tokyo based company has not released a retail game overseas on their own. Perhaps, Deathsmiles 2X will be a digital release like Guwange and Nin2-Jump? Hmm… but both of those are Xbox Live Arcade games and Deathsmiles 2X is a disc game.

Maybe, just maybe, Microsoft took a cue from Sony and is preparing to stock imports in their Games on Demand store. Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4 HD will be digital downloads only in North America, but sold as retail games in Japan.

buying day 1, eagerly awaiting more details because if it is possible for small JP companies to publish their games overseas while avoiding the risks of retail-distribution than there's no reason to go through Aksys in the first place, is there?

Awesome news. Kind of wish they would be breaking the ice with DFK or something that has a little more appeal to those who haven't played it.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy DSXII ALOT. I even have 1000/1000G for it. It just has a very off putting aura about it UNTIL YOU PLAY IT and see how fun and awesome it is.

I guess they're doing it because Aksys brought over DS1 and it has some name recognition.

Good news none the less. Hope it comes with some extras or at least an alternate cover because I already own the JP one.

srsly, disk whores need to learn to DEAL WITH IT because disk-based gaming is dying just like every other physical media so get on the train or STFU because 10 years from now the only gamestop in town will be gamestop.com

though releasing straight to games-on-demand is unprecedented for 360 so unless CAVE is willing to take a huge hit and go for XBLA then it probably will be disk-based

I think its gonna be a disc. Probably the reason that RE games are on disc in Japan while in US, they are in XBLA, is because I think many people don't have PSN or XBLA there. My guess.
Another reason is that no game has gone through "Games on Demand" without a disc release.

Thats just my prediction.

Based off of other threads some of those people posted in I am not surprised. I won't buy it disc-based or not as I don't play schmups. It is good to see for the people that like schmups though.

Thats just my prediction.

First, the RE games are NOT coming to XBLA in America; they're coming to Games on Demand. That's a pretty big difference; they'll be the first games to skip retail and go right to GOD, which opens the door to GOD releases for smaller games like Arcana Heart 3 and (possibly) Deathsmiles 2X.

Second, Japan's got a great online infrastructure, so that has nothing to do with it.

Wow, you're right, looks like they're gonna be blurring up the line separating XBLA with GoD games and if that's the case there's no reason for no Arcana Heart 3's or no 5pb shmups so hopefully this new initiative opens up the floodgates
