RedEagle, you should definitely receive a watch - while your logic is faulty and your faith/ dedication bordering on fanatic, you are doing more to try to dispel this situation than Amazon and Aksys combined. Ahh ... but as I said, your logic is faulty. Lets hit this quickly cause I have better things to do:
"Like you, I pre-ordered this game because this was a game we both wanted to own and play.
Like you, I pre-ordered this game long ago knowing fully aware that there was no watch announced when this pre-ordered was made available on Amazon.com
Like you, I chose to go with Amazon.com instead of GameStop for example, even knowing that GameStop generally gets the pre-order bonus exclusively but still preferred Amazon.com."
Well, you are only partially right here. I created a pre-order at Amazon, but I had a huge suspicion that Aksys would be making these watches. They did something similar for the first game. However, I had ten dollars credit from a gift card so I pre-ordered with the intent to cancel my order if Aksys offered anything similar to the watch promotion themselves. Yeah, this one is a minor one, so if that was the only fault in your logic, I could accept it ... sadly, it's not.
"However, unlike you, I kept my pre-order even if I know I won't get the watch."
Actually, I haven't canceled my pre-order ... YET. Maybe I miss spoke in a previous message, maybe you misunderstood me. Now, I fully intent to cancel my order if some form of correction regarding the watch is not made. The minute I see "shipping soon" listed by my order, if I do not have some form of answer other than "see the other guy", I will be canceling my order. So, that one is more semantics.
"You claim Aksys broke its promise to you. Fine. But you are breaking your promise with Aksys as well as a supporter. When you pre-ordered as an early adapter, you did so with the intent that its the game alone. But for you to threaten to cancel because of a watch? You yourself is breaking a promise to Aksys."
This is where your logic totally breaks down. The minute that Aksys announced the bonus item, with big articles on major sites like Destructoid.com, I knew about it. So, at that point, I KNEW the watch existed. I could have very easily canceled my older pre-order and made a new order. However, Aksys posted on their website, very prominently I should add, "Do not cancel your previous orders. All previous pre-orders will receive the watch." A call to Amazon customer service elicited the same response. So, at that point, A.) I knew about the watch - and not just the possibility, but the actual existence and B.) I could have very easily gotten one by canceling and reordering. But AKSYS and AMAZON lied to me, told me I qualified, and caused me to lose the item. That is indeed a lie, because - and lets go ahead and knock out your next argument, "well, um, they didn't know it was false information at the time." Doesn't matter. If they could not guarantee their statements 100%, they should not have said a thing. Then myself, and many others would have canceled and reordered and the situation would be minimal to nil. Hell, if I had not been promised by both sides my order qualified and this situation had happened, I would chalk it up to my fault for not reordering. But, I was lied to, the fault falls back to the 2 companies, no matter what their intent.
"Keep in mind Aksys did not have to create a pre-order bonus at all. The fact that the pre-order bonus editions were no more expensive than the regular copies means that they effectively have paid to have the watches made out of their own pockets and plan to recoup those losses by taking the added costs out of the profit margin meaning they will be making less money per watch made. Even though it is a business tactic to get more people to pre-order an item they are taking a bit of a hit for it as it is.
Now the main thing that really bothers me about this whole situation is I feel this will ultimately be the death of getting and kind of pre-order bonuses of any kind, from Aksys anyway. ......... I feel Aksys might just say "This is the last pre-order bonus we'll ever do, we try to do something to give back to the fans and it's just blowing up in our face so no more."
Sorry, but that is complete -your mother is a classy lady-! "Well, they didn't have to make anything, so their lies, whether unintentional or not, should be forgiven." I don't accept that placation. If Aksys can't do these kinds of situations correctly, then fine, DON'T OFFER the pre-orders. I have no problem saying that. Might sound like sour grapes, but I don't care. I am willing to bet that a majority of the people who ordered during those 2 short periods through Amazon did so with the intent of scalping the item. So, if that's the future of pre-orders from Aksys, then I say either do them on your own site, or cancel them outright. I would have rather spent an extra 20 or so dollars buying the item online at Aksys - knowing everyone had to, than have someone who pre-ordered the item 3 to 4 months after me to scalp on eBay receive it and I be forced to give them 60 to 100 dollars or go without. Is that greedy and self-centered? Probably. But, it's how I feel.
As for my dedication to the game, I will play it either way. Might have to wait awhile for either Gamefly or a used copy, but you know what, this is about more than a plastic watch now. It's about the principle. And, if you are fine with being proverbially ram-rodded, then more power to you. But, I am not willing to send money to any company that treats its customers this way.
P.S. I know people are tired of reading my thesis, so I am done with this part of the discussion. Just felt the need to point out the inaccuracies in our "unofficial" Aksys mod's statements.
