I hope Aksys is considering bringing this game to the US now that Cave plans on making an xbox 360 version. Personally I think it has everything going for it for a US release. The look is similar to Odin Sphere, the difficulty is very scalable compared to other Cave games, it's horizontal so the black borders issue wouldn't be nearly as bad as verts. It would probably need a name change, and a modest price tag, but I think American gamers could be into it. There are more western Cave fans everyday, the more popular bullet hell games like Touhou and stuff get over here just by word of mouth. Curious what people at Aksys think about the western STG market... I know Shikigami III got good marks in the press, but it fits the Wii software library a bit better.Posted 3 years ago # -
Oh man, it would be awesome of Aksys published this. How about Ketsui DS, has anyone claimed that for a NA release yet?Posted 3 years ago #

I just wanted to say that if Aksys brought this one over, it'd be a day one purchase.
Though I wonder what exactly you meant by Shiki 3 being better suited for the Wii? Not to bag on the Wii or anything, but...it doesn't exactly have the best controls for shooting games. I guess the Classic Controller beats the 360 d-pad...but that's only because pretty much anything beats the 360 d-pad. ;)
And yeah, the Wii has a Fighting Stick, but the 360 has a Real Arcade Pro and that crazy Otomedius stick. Absolutely no comparison there.
(...err, btw, if someone important is listening...if via some miracle Aksys managed to bring over the 360 version of Shiki 3, I would quite happily trade in the Wii version for it? haha)Posted 3 years ago # -

It's more of a benefit to the Wii software library since there are few challenging games on the system, and few polished traditional arcade-style action games outside of the Virtual Console. But yeah, I would have personally preferred to get Shiki III on the 360 instead.
What's more is that any 2D game coming out at retail for the HD systems is going to get railed on by the American press for not being released on a download service instead. But then you have Microsoft refusing to accept direct arcade ports (on XBL "ARCADE" no less... infuriating) leaving publishers no choice but to put them on discs. At least on Wii reviewerss seemed to see Shiki III for what it is, meaning more people would buy the game and the possibility for more shooters coming out here in the future (always a good thing!)
What I'm hoping with Death Smiles is that it's uniqueness as well as the fan support behind Cave games will make it a success, even in such a confusing market.Posted 3 years ago # -
oh hell yea! please do it!
if we could get an american publisher that's willing to publish Cave games it would be the awesome. I don't know how else to put.
I was planning to import death smiles but seeing as how i don't have a 360 and don't even know how to play 360 imports, an american release would save me a shitload of money.Posted 3 years ago # -

The port even has the spritework redone in HD
Oh Aksys I hope you guys do everything in your power to bring it out over here.Posted 3 years ago # -
Wow, that is a mighty fine-looking sprite update.I judge you when you use poor grammar.Posted 3 years ago #

Quite a lot of new information about this game recently. The game is looking absolutely gorgeous, and I'm positive that American gamers would take to this:

I'm unsure of whether Cave would charge prohibitive licensing fees for a US publisher, but weren't there rumors buzzing around back in September about the potential for these to hit US shores (actually, I think it was 5pb that spoke optimistically about a DDPDOJBLEX US version.
Aksys-- I'm unsure of how much "pull" you have here; I'm fairly pessimistic about the issue, given the "red tape" Microsoft apparently imposes. But please, please, please do what you can!

^I just saw this article on Siliconera mention Deathsmiles' possibility of a U.S. release:
On second thought we could get Deathsmiles. While Aksys didn’t release Castle of Shikigami III on the Xbox 360 here someone is releasing Raiden Fighters Aces in the states. The rumor is budget publisher Zoo Games is responsible. We contacted Zoo Games and haven’t received a comment yet. However, other sources say Valcon Games is the North American publisher. We also contacted them. If I had to guess I would say it’s Valcon over Zoo Games. Valcon Games has a relationship with Success, the Japanese publisher of Raiden Fighters Aces, after their work with Shepherd’s Crossing.

Now, this doesn't guarantee anything, but there's still hope, yet. Time will tell. Doesn't hurt to ask them, either ;)I'm not a huge fan of shmup games but I just looked at the gameplay on youtube and it's impressive. It's not too crazy like some other shmups try to be and everything just flows together.
The artwork is gorgeous, too.Posted 3 years ago # -
You guys see this???? I don't care how much it costs I'm getting one.
