After that Otome poll I got my hopes up that there might be a chance of being localized. Sadly though there hasn't been any mention of it yet but I got to thinking after browsing the DSI ware games. Maybe translate one of those and put them up on the DSI/3DS shop? Sorta like testing the waters maybe? I know I saw at least 2 of them so that might be the best start.
Otome results? Also suggestion

Acquiring and localizing a game can be a lengthy process. Still waters run deep.

Hmm, is that a clue that it's in the process right now?
Either way, I just thought that making the suggestion of testing the waters with a DSI ware/3DS eShop one might have been easier and less expensive. But then again I don't know the full details and such that goes into translating and releasing it but hey, was just a suggestion and all.

It would be nice to have localised otome games. Western women are never given a reason to play video games. What girl would want o play Gears of War? Women are a powerful force. Give them a reason to buy you product and they will drive the sales. It's an untapped potential that US/EU video game companies have ignored for decades. Japan is truly light years ahead of anyone in terms of entertainment. There is a reason why I only play J games.

I doubt my wife would play an Otome game though.

Seems like you're assuming a lot about what women do and do not want to play. Could video game companies stand to make their marketing a little more gender-balanced? Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Is there a market for otome games in the west? Also yes, I think there probably is. But I imagine there are plenty of girls who want to play Gears of War for the same reasons I want to play Gears of War: It's fun, you get to shoot monsters, it's full of big, burly, badass mans, and there are lots of people to play with online. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, of course, but saying things like "What girl would want [t]o play Gears of War?" seems to me to be putting all women in the same rather small basket.Data, data, data. I think its a little pathetic to baically more or less say "What are girls supposed to play" uhm just about any genre of game we like...Kinda like boys do...and we Vote and work jobs to...
And the orriginal Contra still holds a firm place in my heart~
I just think it would be nice to add another genre of game potential to the states...I mean if you look at it realistically you have to take in to consideration of what sells where...In japan they get alot of veriety whereas the US wont get quite as much simply because it "might" not be as big a hit here since the peoples state of mind is different than in Japan's...Its a long road, and alot of money to loose in the event something wont sell....and money loss realy isnt any companies goal.Alot is taken in to factor with things like this and I wish I had tallies and such but all arround I honestly couldnt say weather this type of game would be popular or not...to me id probably buy them if the story was good...."Girl meets boy(s) at school" type of thing I probably wouldnt buy but im an older chick so some things im just no longer interested in...

Personally I enjoy Gears of War and Halo games but I also like my Otome games and the more romance type. Girls can like both genre's just as boys can enjoy say games like Harvest Moon. There is no really gender specific games per-say but more along the lines of personal preference.
On a day I could sit on my xbox and play some Gears/Mass Effect then later on play some Tokimeki Girls Side or Summon Night: Twin Age. Heck I'm a girl and I'm playing Record of Agarest War. Is that a male game? I suppose to some but I like the romance and RPG elements to it and the art is beautiful. The problem is the later games are more harder to come by localized which makes me a sad panda. T_T

So you are all telling me that girls like these games:

^They certainly can, no reason they can not if they find entertainment from it - and I know a few women that do.
I think what trips people on this issue is the demographic it's aimed towards. For the longest time, companies tried to market games to young girls with Barbie, Hello Kitty, anything "pink and pretty". Sure, have at it, there is that market, but I know more women that grew up and played Silent Hill, Castlevania and games that were probably not expected to gain a female audience. I'll admit, I was astonished that fans of these games I met online and in person were women because I had this pre-notion that there were no ideal games "made for girls". Once I figured what made these games so appealing to both genders I felt like I was slapped with a slab of meat for being so stuck on one perspective and simply arrogant. (probably as much as a lot of these game companies) On one hand, though, I've always wondered why games were seen as more male oriented and why more girls my age seemed to shy away. I don't have an answer for that, though, there seems to be a few depending on who you ask, maybe. On the flip side, do you expect every male to be absolutely fanatical about violent FPS games? (I'd much rather play Princess Debut 2, myself :P) Publishers and developers aim a game to specific demographics, absolutely. If it's the gameplay or feature that attracts a person outside that demographic, I'd say, ...well, I'm not sure exactly, but one of it could be, "well, don't look so surprised".

"well, don't look so surprised" - that's something I'll take to heart.

At least some of them, yeah. My girlfriend played through and loved all three God of War games.
Also, if the reviews are anything to go by, nobody likes Duke Nukem Forever. :3

Well, I can tell 1 out of those 4 screenshots personally. The first being Gears of War; second, no idea but I'm sure that's not the whole focus of that game; third, my guess is God of War and again that is not the focus of that game; last is some CoD or Battlefield I'm guessing and though I've never played them my first was CoD: Black Ops which I highly enjoyed.
Sam Worthington is swoon worthy. XD
Also if you can't tell I added the gamer tags on my sig to show what I have indeed played. As a girl you can see we ARE branching out in game. Like I said there's no gender specific games. Although I will say the DS has more 'girly' ones as that's the targeted demographic for it I assume.

I'm a guy and I like harem and reverse harem games. Recently I've liked Canvas 2 and Flower Shop: Summer in Fairbrook... As well as Tokimemo Girls Side DS and Love & Order. (Two of those four were fan translated, the others made by English speaking fans.)
Siliconera has an article in which Aksys staff basically say "wait until Anime Expo 2011 for a potenial announcement." (paraphrase- I may have misinterpreted) That event happens early July.
Not sure if Aksys or Idea Factory staff believe that fans will buy otome games in English. There's a lot of good untranslated games and VNs on platforms that are struggling. And only a few odd fans like me openly like cute games and stories about fictional relationships. Tough to sell not quite mainstream games in boxes. It may be easier to publish niche content on iTunes, PSN, or paid download services for PC/Mac.
Finally, jack_norton from Winter Wolves has said the group has had success selling their reverse harem games. There is a market, but in order to make a profit, Aksys may need to look carefully for that market.

I'm male and I'd love to play Otome games. I know girls that love CoD more than I do. It's not a matter of the gamer's gender, and a matter of who's really interested on Otome (and VN) games. That said, bring Umineko no Naku Koro ni PS3~.
