Really, I don't see anything wrong with the script. Sometimes they improvise a little bit, but it's good improvising, not bad improvising. It would be worse if they really tried to translate everything word for word.

i really like the game personally but i'm a fan of sandbox rpg's (strategy games that are basically graph calculators where you just farm high numbers). my only real complaint about this one was like already said, it is basically the first one all over again, and (at least on the xbox version) there is literally dozens of typo's, and places where the script doesn't even stay in the dialog box. but hey, i'm not perfect either. lol i probably spelled something wrong in here

I've liked all the style choices they've used so far in their games, or at least enough that I don't feel the need to argue over it.

Record of Agarest War original script isn't something great, but the localization is just as bad. If you have a game with bad script (and you know it), why not try to make it better? If they're just going to deliver a straight-up translation, that's not localization. I HAVE to say that they didn't apply 50% of the effort they did with 999, and this is a retail game for PS3 and 360 that had the potential to break the 100k sales.

If I decide I want to "improve" a script, what does that mean? Do I try and edit out the ridiculous misogyny? Do I re-write the characters? If I'm going to do that, how do I make them more interesting? Who do I try and appeal to? Your idea of what's "better" is—as has been illustrated in this thread—not the same as everyone else's. So while maybe I could take your suggestions and make a script that Shizuka likes more, there's no guarantee it would be any "better" than the one we already have.
Localization is a balancing act: Some change is unavoidable because of the process of translation and localization, but too much change will get you in a heap of trouble—and I don't just mean with otaku who don't like what you did. Even the worst story depends on itself. If you change something somewhere, that will have ramifications elsewhere, and pretty soon a small change means you have to re-write half the game.
That being said, I'm sorry you don't care for Zero's localization, but as the person who edited both Zero and 999 I can tell you I put just as much effort into one as the other.

Hmm, how can I put it... There isn't a wide range of words, whenever there's a thought, it's the same line. "Is something amiss?" being the worst case in the game, and I'd advise you to forget that sentence on any other game you ever work with, I've already got my share of reading that particular sentence.
Another thing is the lack of creativity. Yes, you're allowed to take some measures but you couldn't go crazy with the game, but the entire script seems lackluster. Why not try to make it shine if you notice that while translating? The whole game fells dull and it doesn't help that Idea Factory practically recycled the first game and renamed it "Zero".
There's the "typo" problem also, and although the good fellow a few posts above did notice that we have them EVERYWHERE, you could always try and eliminate most of them as humanly possible. I don't believe this game has the same amount of words that Trails in The Sky had, and that game had the least typos I could ever expect from a game that text-heavy.
There are other issues as texts appearing outside the boxes and even when you try to read the "Extra Mode" description at the beggining of the game, half of it is unreadable. This game had many issues, and yes, most of them are Idea Factory's fault, but as I said before, Aksys should've noticed that and tried to at least done everything possible for the game not to have issues on their part.

Yea, I've noticed multiple errors throughout the text of this game. Some are pretty bad, such as one of the title prerequisites being "7 remedy herbs", but the actual item being called "pancea herbs". It's pretty confusing and disappointing.
Hopefully if RoAW 2 gets localized, spellcheck plays a part in the process.
