OMG! I cant believe AKSYS IS GONNA RELEASE A USA HAKUOKI!!!! But I have to ask if the game can have a function for switching to Japanese voicing or is the game only going to have English voice over? I REALLY WANT TO HAVE JAPANESE VOICING OPTION!!!
Will there still be Japanese voicing?

Personally, I was hoping that there would be a dub, but I guess I'll have to do without.

Thanks Snow for the reply =D and Hollow_Ninja D< how can you want dubs!!! The Japanese voicing is what made the game so great!!!

I would say an immersive story and intriguing characters make a game great. Voices, in any language, are secondary. A dub would be fun, I think, and make it easier to follow along, but I can go with either.

I'm fine with it not having a Dub (to be honest, I wouldn't have even listened to it if there was the option to have the Japanese voices). I think that most of the people who are interested in this would be listening to the Japanese track anyway.

After that awful family based dub, I think I'd stick to the japanese dubs.

Chaos Wars was awesome! I bought the game specifically for the dubbing. Comedy gold such as that comes only once in a blue moon.
And if you're going to fail, why not swing for the fences and fail in a spectacularly epic fashion?

Once in a blue moon...I hope games with dubbing like Chaos Wars stay that way...and maybe longer.
Yes...it failed...it failed in a spectacularly epic fashion far beyond my expectations after hearing the first dialogue scene (it went far beyond my expectations with the introduction of the Shadow Hearts characters 'Uru and...the other girl.')

Its not the fact that its in Japanese specifically, that makes it special, its the fact that Japanese was the language it was created for and in. Its tough for me to listen to most English dubs these days, now that I do know Japanese. A lot of special or unique character's voices or nuances of those characters get watered down by English dubbing in most cases.

Chaos Wars just wasn't a very good game, though. I would have disliked it even if it did have a good dub... but it didn't.
In a way, that may stand in its favor. See: Rebecca Black.

It's true that Japanese is the language the games are created in. That's perfectly reasonable logic. However, by that logic, you also have to accept that having the text in another language also damages the experience.
The voice acting should be in the same language as the text. Otherwise, your logic is too selective to stand.

Well, thats just picking at straws. A sub does much less damage and can stay much closer to the intent of the original Japanese than a re-dubbing can, because the dubbing process adds the complication of tailoring the lines to fit timing and, if its included, lip movement.

Neither does a dub. Especially in video games, there's tons of room to adjust timing and lip-synch. Hell, in FFXIII and Catherine they even resynced the lip movements to the dubs.

I'll just get it to the point: 10 good English male voice actors that girls fangirl about?
If they're selling a for-girl visual novel, they're attracting the PC otomege crowd. I'm pretty sure about half, if not more than half of the crowd is more or less into seiyuu. (Which, believe it or not, is part of the selling point of otomege!)

A good release should not only try to cater the niche it is supposed to be aimed to, but be compatible with a curious "outsider". I'm no fan of most dubs, but I can see how they work towards making a release more enjoyable for people (when they're good).
Main: Lambda-11 (BBCS), Urs, Freed (BF) and Petra (AH3)
Sub: Noel, Mu-12, Tsubaki, Taokaka and Makoto (BBCS), Olivia and Odille (BF), Akane (AH3)

Japanese and English voice actors have fans. A lot of times at anime conventions in the US, the English VAs have longer autograph lines than the Japanese ones. Unless a super big Japanese one is there, and since they're a rarer sight, they get a longer line. But still, there are fans of both. Voice acting for an otome game shouldn't make a difference.
