"PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners can stop wondering how they'll gain access to the new content in the PlayStation Vita version of BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend. Famitsu reveals this week that Extend is also due for release on the two home consoles.

As reported earlier here, Extend is an updated version of arcade title BlazBlue Continuum Shift II. It adds new characters, including Ignus and Relius Clover, new scenarios, an Abyss Mode, and a network mode.

CSII was itself just an updated version of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Continuum Shift, which makes all of this just a bit confusing. We'll have to wait for details on how Arc intends to price the PS3 and 360 versions of Extend, or if they intend on releasing the new content as download content."

My guess, it's about time for another $40 retail expansion that bundles the dlc but also allows cross play with the vita version. If they want they can sell relius for another $8 sure but the other modes should stay with newer version of the game. 1v1 should still be compatible with the old CS net play though.

I think it will depend heavily on the amount of new content offered as to wether BBCSIIExtend will be DLC or a new disc release. For example, character DLCs were preety beefy in size and if you add in the new story scenarios from the PSP/NDS versions, Abyss mode, Relius, and whatever other things they have planned such as maybe throwing in the Arcade modes for Makoto, u-12, etc, I can already see this as enough content to warrant a retail release in the US. And I'd be there day 1... as long as it's not a digital-only release. Disc/DLC or bust!

Maybe weird for some, I play Blazblue for the Story mode

I want speaking for anything other than just relius as dlc. Everything else except for the balance patch should stay on a disc release. Gives incentive for a retail purchaser and gives a character to use if they want to practice for tournaments and arcade play with the old CS.

I play BB for the story as well, so even though I share the same view of being a bit tired of CS, the possibility of getting the EX stories from the PSP/NDS versions as well as the Arcade modes for Makoto, u-12, and the rest of the DLC characters is very tempting indeed. Abyss mode is another possibility, as I'm secretely hoping that mode represents Mori's intent of making a BB RPG spin-off at some point lol

I'll just get the Vita game. I like having my fighters on the go, and the PSP and 3DS versions seem too gimped for me.

I love the Blazblue story mode but I'm not tired of CS. I still enjoy it, but then again its not (and never was) one of those games that I would consistently play every day.

I knew that BlazBlue would take the Guilty Gear route
Game is good and all, but a real sequel is what I want more

I can see they want blazblue on the handhelds as well but please i hope this is the last CS there does not need to be a Super Blazblue arcade ed..no..just no..or no Ulimate Marvel vs Capcom

Awesome! I never got a chance to play CT and I love Makoto & Platinum so their story modes should be great.

If this is priced at 40 again, then I'd throw more money down. However if it comes out as a free balancing patch to us then I don't think I'll buy it. I mean, I'm not going to play Relius, I'm kind of interested in story mode but not too much, and I already bought all the DLC characters that I've wanted to have/play :/

This version includes all of the previous downloadable content on disc plus new challenger Relius Clover. Online mode has new rule options such as 2-on-2, 3-on-3, and even 2-on-4 battles. Need to practice? Arc System Works enhanced the key recording function and fine tuned abyss mode with stronger characters.

Unlimited Mars Mode from the arcade version has also been added to BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend. Select this and you’ll fight ten stages of CPU controlled unlimited characters.

Arc System Works also added new scenarios for BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend. The game is slated for release in Japan this winter and will be playable at Tokyo Game Show."

Note that the news bit says "all DLC on disc". I'd happily buy a new disc release and await any news from Aksys regarding this developement.

I imagine that the distribution method will be similar to SSF4 Arcade Edition. There will be a disc for new people and a DLC for the old people, with the DLC beign cheaper.

Also, does this mean we get tag-team battles?

I'm keeping my hopes up for a domestic disc release. As far as team battles go, I speculate they'll be the standard fare, as a tag mechanic would probably be something ASW would debut in an Arcade release.

Some new tidbits from andriasang:

"The big new feature for Extend is the inclusion of Relius as a playable fighter. Other updates include:
•New rules for online play, including 2 on 2, 3 on 3 and 2 on 4 battles
•Updated Abyss mode
•Improved key recording in training mode
•The high difficulty 10 stage Unlimited Mars mode from the arcade version
•Inclusion of all the paid Continuum Shift download content
•Four new scenarios for story mode
•Inclusion of a refined version of BlazBlue Calamity Trigger's story mode, with all new voice acting"

Personaly I'm very excited for the new story bits. If I were to take a guess, I'd say this will be the last of the Continuum Shift expansions. My reasoning is the inclusion of the Calamity Trigger story mode. I wouldn't think much of it if it was included as a bonus, but the mention of new voice acting makes me believe we'll see some retcons leading into the new scenarios for Continuum Shift, which will then lead into the next installment in a much more concrete way than the somewhat vague ending of vanilla CS story mode.
