Sony products are notoriously expensive at launch and also almost never have any good starter games.
However, I have bought several Nintendo products during or close to their launch. They usually have a good line-up and aren't too expensive (compared to other systems); 3DS not counting - while I like the game library (mostly for RE), the new feature is a bit too gimmicky for me, plus it's hard to go back to a tiny screen after having an XL for so long.
I found on Kotaku.com that the PSVita will use another proprietary memory card
From the look of it, I can't use my old Memory Stick from my PSP...
Damn the Vita is pricy :/

There may be a converter considering that the PSP Go used a different memory card for that of the previous iterations.

According to my Infomation is Vita using Memory Stick and Duo (Memory stick was the one use in PSP).

It's certain I'm the getting a Vita sooner or later, but I'll probably wait a bit after release, you know... Every consoles have problems on release or they just make a slim version 3 months later.
But since i have no intention of buying a 3DS, I'm getting a Vita for sure.
