Type-Moon announced a download PC version of the PS2 "All Ages" version of the VN, no release date yet.
Considering it is ESRB friendly and a downloadable title, something to keep in mind. I don't know what your policy is with PC gaming however.
Of course there's also CCC, which is a follow up to Fate/Extra that may get localized instead but just putting this out there...

I'm a little disappointed it's a PC version. If they had done a PSN version, we could have gone all out Umineko-force for it, as it would be a lot more likely. Well, as likely as any large Visual Novel, which is not very likely, but still more likely than a PC version.
Still, maybe we can always keep a finger crossed for a PSN release of the PS2 version, if Fate/EXTRA sold enough. I know Aksys can't, or won't, confirm or deny the possibility in any way, but I am hoping we at least eventually get confirmation if Fate/Extra did well enough for future support of the Fate franchise.
Simply put, the original Fate/stay night VN is much better than both Fate/EXTRA and the anime combined. Not that Fate/EXTRA was bad by any means, F/SN VN is just that good.

I'd prefer all-ages myself, Nasu's writing, while hilarious... is not exactly what I'd call erotic. Also, I don't like the "oh no!" "oww!" "no!" "no!" "ow!" "yes!" "ah!" "yes!" that always happens. SQUICK.
While I can kind of, sort of... empathize... with the pain (s--- hurts.) and whatnot, the way it comes off is a little bit too N-C for me.
A check-box at installation, or a choice when starting Day 1 would be cool. Like, "Do you want them to be spikey worms or grape worms?" or something ;P
What I'm hoping for most of all is a notch up in resolution, 1024x768 or 1280x1024, or dare I say a "remastered" widescreen edition at 1280x720 or higher. Would love a great bilinear or trilinear rescaling algorithm like STEINS;GATE had, if we can't get a "legitimate" higher resolution. (A man can dream--after Nasu's whole 'We'd have to re-direct' the entirety of Mahoutsukai no Yoru if it had voices." spiel, I doubt that they'd change the aspect ratio.)

This is kind of cool, though there is already an English Realta Nua patch. I'm glad it's on PC and not on consoles, I hope there's still an option of keeping the h-scenes intact.
The ESRB thing shouldn't be a problem. The Witcher 2 had sex scenes and there were no problems with it, so I don't see why it would be a problem here.
It's nice to see some PC support in Japan, even if it's not what we hoped for. Localization companies besides Carpe Fulgur and Atlus seem completely uninterested in PC games (and the latter of those is publishing Western games on PC, not even Japanese ones, and in the case of Divinity 2, had no involement with the PC version). It's kind of worrying, as I don't plan to buy any consoles period next generation (no reason to when you have a PC).

I honestly must say that I am considering next generation consoles because I've put so much money in to my PC and I would rather put it in other places. I believe that next generation of consoles will have graphics that are acceptable to me... for at least three years.
Did The Witcher 2 have [white stuff on nudie girls] shots? Did it have graphic descriptions of sex acts with marine analogues? I haven't played it, but I must say that I think that F/SN would be considered more explicit by the ESRB just because it's "anime-style" (manga, anime, Japanese, whatever style, you [readers] know what I'm talking about so don't pull semantics on me) just because of the joke that is the "Miller Obscenity Test"--RN is really a much better venture for any U.S. company than the full eroge would ever be. While extremely graphic sex scenes in novels are fair game, apparently when it's a visual novel and has a [GASP!!!!] picture [OH NO! THE CHILDREN!] in the background, it becomes serious business and is OBSCENE.
By "obscene", I mean "against the law", by the way. Just look up information on the Miller Obscenity Test and you'll see. Yeah, the community doesn't give two _ _ _ _ _ about whether or not it has any artistic merit (i.e. the other 99% of Fate/Stay Night

I can understand that to an extent for Sakura, because, well, we all know-- she's a little bit slow on the uptake. But Rin? Rin is a prodigy, and you're reminded in the story one to ten times per hour about it. She may be the "older sister" but she's only a few grades ahead... if Sakura's being held back, and Rin's not... but then again, canon age for Rin is just about 17. And that's where the trouble begins.
Honestly, I'd just like the all-ages version so there doesn't have to be all of that trouble. I reiterate redundantly that I find the H-scenes squicky. All-ages would be a great way to pull more people into the Fate fandom, and we all know the sex is totally shoehorned in at the end. I bet if the original Fate/Stay Night had none of those scenes, and Realta Nua was an adult re-do, fans wouldn't be as frustrated about the story changes (like Little Busters!, except with an inverted fan response...)

Honestly, I think the hard part with an h-version of the game would be finding a publisher in the US who's willing to publish it. Most of them don't want their reputation tarnished by h-games. Also, it's unfortunate, but anime fans are some of the worst pirates there are, and you can bet that PC VNs are pirated to hell and back.
Were it to find a publisher, though, there isn't any legal reason why it couldn't be released with the h-scenes. There isn't some censorship body in the US that monitors everything published in the country. The banning of a game would never occur until someone challenges it, and so far, no one has challenged any of the English VNs that already exist. There's no reason that would change for F/SN.
Anime fans like to pretend that there's some boogeyman out there responsible for censorship. There isn't. All such decisions are made by publishers of their own volition to maximize sales, NEVER because they wouldn't be able to release the game otherwise (except in theoretical cases in which the console manufacturer blocks a game... but the standards for such content are actually much more lenient in the US than in Japan, so if anything, the games get de-censored over here. Of course, this doesn't apply to PC gaming, not that any Japanese non-doujin publishers have had the sense to make a PC version of their game since The Last Remnant... perhaps that's why Western games are becoming more popular in the mainstream, you can't just ignore PC gamers and expect to succeed).
Anyways, h-games with school age characters have been published for a while now. There's no reason that would just stop.
However, the last part of your post brings up an interesting point. Why not go for a more moderate approach? Are the only extremes to sex scenes either to go with totally chaste characters, or to have a full-on porno? Where's Japan's sense of subtlety and class? Why not, instead of having having CG dragons, or the opposite, graphic descriptions of Shiro and Saber -your mother is a classy lady-, just simply make it clear that they're having sex, write a few paragraphs about it, and show a shot from behind Shiro's back of them having sex without showing either party's nether regions (breasts can be visible, though)?
It just annoys me that the two extremes for VNs in Japan are to either have a porno or to have no sex at all (Clannad)? Do you have to have a porno to have a sex scene?
Just FYI, any game that contains explicit, graphical representation of sexual activity would be rated AO by the ESRB, and none of the big three will approve AO games to be published on their consoles. It's not censorship in a literal sense, but it means that the only way you could get an AO game to play on your home console would be to mod/hack it, which means that anyone publishing an AO console game would only be able to sell that game to an extremely small group of people.
You can publish whatever you want on PC, of course, but without an ESRB rating (or with an AO rating) no major retailers will stock it (and I imagine all the major online DD shops wouldn't stock it either). There are some people who give it a shot—MangaGamer, for instance—but their sales, and presumably profit margins, are very, very low so far as I know. Once you start down that path, as Yoda would say, forever will it dominate your destiny: Publishing games with porn (for lack of a better term) in them is a black mark on your record if you want to publish other, more mainstream, stuff and the market is so small that for most companies it's just not worth it.

Makes sense. However, I imagine there is a significant difference between having porn-style sex scenes and having Hollywood-style sex scenes. The Witcher 2 had the latter kind, and it's getting an Xbox port later on (presumably a bit less graphic, though). When I mentioned sex scenes in my most recent post, I was thinking of something like what The Witcher 2 had, though even a Mass Effect-style scene would be good enough for me. Mass Effect did have a console version, so that's proof that publishers are fine with sex scenes as long as they don't get too graphic.
I just don't like the idea that you have to choose between a porno or being totally PG-rated. I've never heard of an anime, visual novel, or Japanese game that didn't go to one of the two extremes. In contrast, you see a more even distribution in Western content. I really think that's one way in which Japan could learn from the West. Keep porn in pornos and just use sex scenes otherwise.

Personally, I would prefer to see a would-be Western release of Réalta Nua to not have the "missing" scenes added back in; if only because them not being there makes it a lot easier to talk about the bulk of the story to people who aren't already pre-disposed to that aspect of things.
(Actually, one thing I found kind of ironic about the adaptation of another Type-moon property, Tsukihime, was that from what I gather from the original story, Shiki is quite unpleasant towards Arc in their certain scene; whereas in the anime, they were shown to be more gentle and romantic and stuff. That worked a lot better in my mind.)
Oh, and as a Sakura fan, I'll try not to notice that comment about her earlier in the thread. (Though I will hope that this forum manages to avoid the level of fan-baiting that plagues all too many topics over on Beast's Lair in that regard.)

I am not saying there is, I guess my point was that as things are it would not be publishable in the U.S. (because of the age things). I wasn't really talking about the industry or any of their restrictions, more the laws on graphic depictions of sex with characters who are all under the age of 18, no matter what the disclaimer says. I mentioned, the text of the story directly contradicts Rin's and Sakura's ages. I know Saber is a Servant and all, but, I mean, Shirou at many points in the game says, "Saber looks like a beautiful 14 year old girl."--does it really matter that she stopped aging when she pulled the sword from the stone? It still says she looks 14. Rin's canon age is 17 and her 18th Birthday will be the month after the Holy Grail War.
The whole Chris Handley thing really shook me up, even if I'm not in to that sort of stuff--and I think it's gross--it was in my opinion quite a strike against freedom of expression.
Also, I sorta ranted too long on that, came home from a night of drinking.

The KEY one that had no sex in it, that you are thinking of, was "Little Busters!", and it got a pretty lukewarm reception until they released "Little Busters! Ecstasy" with additional erotic content, which sold far better (I am sourcing this off secondhand knowledge so I may not be 100% right)
I think that this thing has gotten a little bit derailed, and I'm very sorry for starting that--let's talk about F/SN RN PC!
...did I mention yet that I ordered a DVD copy of the F/SN eroge last week, and yesterday I missed the delivery? On top of that, I find out, DL only Realta Nua! Oh well, it's just announced, knowing TYPE-MOON we'll get an estimated release date and it'll get pushed back like a year. Plus, not like there's gonna be a patch for it any time soon. Plus I gots me a copy of PS2 Realta Nua already anyway.

I agree. I would prefer the PC version not to have those scenes in it. And you're absolutely right about the Tsukihime thing. Tsukihime, Shiki is... well, let's just say he enjoys grape soda. I think that anyone who knows what I'm talking about will be able to read between the lines for that sentence. I had a LOT of trouble reading through Tsukihime for that very reason, and I was unable to stomach it for long enough to get through Kohaku's route. (which, is apparently VERY important, from the spoilers I've read...)

Sakura is a classic abuse victim who has been abused for so long that she almost thinks that it's okay. It's not okay. She has legitimate reasons for being the way she is. You keep forgetting the important part - there already are publishers, such as MangaGamer and Peach Princess, who publish eroges in the US. And some of them include school-age characters.
As for Rin, keep in mind that the age of consent is not standardized around the nation. I live in Alabama, 16 is legal here.
I also pointed out that sex scenes don't have to be pornographic in nature. There are definitely depections in media of underage characters that are having sex. The reason they aren't challenged is because they are not pornographic. Right now I'm wondering if you even read my post. Why do visual novels have to take every sex scene and turn it into porn? Why can't F/SN have sex scenes that are non-pornographic?
Instead of going into detailed descriptions of the sexual event itself, F/SN could focus on the characters' reaction to said sexual encounter. This would take a pornographic sex scene and turn it into a non-pornographic sex scene, thus invalidating the indecency issue completely, since it's not any more obscene than what you see in late-night television.

MangaGamer and Peach Princess alter the text of their games so that the characters, while having school-age appearances, are "going to a private academy", and age references are changed. Point me in the cirection of a title that doesn't have these (This is not baiting, I am legitimately interested in seeing if either of these companies are ballsy enough to try such a thing after the Chris Handley case/Dead or Alive: Dimensions drama. Yeah, I'm aware that MangaGamer operates out of the E.U.)
My point is the pornographic part will not fly with the age laws in the U.S.--I guess we're both getting the feeling that the other person is not reading our posts. It's getting me pretty riled up so this is my last one here. Feel free to get in the last word and I'll read it but I'm not posting anymore about this publisher/sex/censorship/underage stuff after this:
The fact is that F/SN's sex scenes ARE pornographic, and the characters ARE under the age of 18, the disclaimer contradicts the text.
I know that sex scenes that are not pornographic are fine. My example would be, in "A Game of Thrones" there are multiple sex scenes with girls 13 and 14, some of them graphic but not to the level of pornography.
"Why can't F/SN have sex scenes that are non-pornographic?"--Ask TYPE-MOON, but my guess is that it'd raise the rating from CERO C to CERO Z just by having the sexual references (and perhaps the grape worms) intact.
Sex scenes shouldn't have to be pornographic, BUT THEY ARE IN FATE/STAY NIGHT. When there's a version or announcement without pornographic sex scenes, just described ones or reactions to it, I'll be more than willing to talk about it.
Why do many visual novels have to turn sex scenes in to porn? Because that's what sells to the Japanese market who are interested in them. My prime example in this, Little Busters! & LB! Ecstasy.
What I was talking about had nothing to do with the age of consent (and if we take age of consent in to account then we could consider Romeo & Juliet laws and it'd be all hunky dory no matter what because the characters who do participate in these acts are all within 3 years of age of each other... except Saber but she's Really 700 Years Old and even Ilya is within 3 years of Shirou... She's older! Again I invoke Really 700 Years Old.
The long and the short of this whole thing is that I was drunk when I posted that first super long rant, and it has lead to all of this stupidity. I'm going to take a leave of absence from this forum (in its entirety) while things that I stirred up settle down. I didn't mean to start a whole thing like this, but I did. I have singlehandedly fulfilled the derail pattern of -> SAKURA -> BASEMENT, and for that I apologize.

As for why companies include sex scenes? it's because they more or less HAVE to if they want to make any kind of profit. It's very difficult for a company to make a lot of sales off of a VN that doesn't have sex scenes in it if they aren't established, it's not impossible (for example Ryukishi and Higurashi) but still not very common. Why do you think the sex scenes in Tsukihime and Fate are so forced in? because it helps sales.

My bad about the CLANNAD thing, I was misinformed. And yeah, they do more or less have to.

Type-Moon is established by this point, though. People would buy their games regardless of whether they have sex scenes or not. We know this by now.
At this point, I think it's definitely reasonable for Type-Moon to include non-pornographic sex scenes. We don't know what they're doing with this newly announced rerelease of the game.
I know it's an established tradition by now that if a VN has sex scenes, they have to be pornographic, but is it really too much to ask for to want an established, well-known developer to break the mold and do the right thing by including sex scenes of a non-pornographic nature?
