Lets first off assume the best- Hakuoki has sold well and is generating positive reviews from the general public. So, after that, will Aksys reconsider another otome game? And if so, will the games be more popular as Hakuoki is (or just something along the lines of having an anime- like Hiiro no Kakera's coming anime or Uta no Prince-sama) or a very highly rated, but possibly more obscure (in comparison to games like Hakuoki) like Clock Zero, or Desert Kingdom, or, my personal favorite, Zettai Meikyuu Grimm?
So.....after Hakuoki- what's next?

There are so many whatifs in this scenario : ) I remember reading on an interview that was posted at siliconera that one of the reasons that they chose Hakuoki (besides its strong popularity amongst otome gamers in Japan) was that the guys were especially hot. And there's no denying that, but let us assume good things happen with Hakuoki's sales (crossing my fingers so much it hurts). If it does well, maybe they'll try another historical romance with nice art/hot guys? In that case, I was always wondering/hoping maybe Musketeer le Sang Des Chevaliers since I've heard such good things about it (even though a localization for Zettai Meikyuu Grimm would be amazing beyond words).
One of the things that I liked about Musketeer was that 'D'Artagnan was *less* of a doormat than the majority of her otome protagonist relations. I imagine that it's cultural differences surfacing, but (in general) otome games seem to like their protagonists to be walked all over/alarmingly submissive in some scenarios, and I can see some Western anime/manga/otome fans raging over what some of the protagonists tolerate.
Unfortunately, during one of my begging/pleading-for-them-to-buy-Hakuoki-and-give-it-a-chance with some acquaintances, they seemed to be turned off by the visual novel aspect, and would have been more enticed if it had been something with more gameplay, which made me sadface. Because, let's be honest, Hakuoki can be a very short game. Particularly if you're skipping scenes you've done on previous routes.
This leads me to think that something aside from just the hot men might be nice (hey, it's enough for me, but some people are so picky...). Uta no Prince-sama has the music that is reminiscent of Project Diva/DDR (which seems to have a following among some anime/manga fans).
TL ; DR version --
ZOMG Let's hope Hakuoki does well!
Musketeers is "historical" and has hot guys
Uta no Prince-sama has fun songs and hot guys \O/Posted 5 months ago # -
i know what game i want them to do.

Ah~ I remember reading a review/summary of Musketeer le Sang Des Chevaliers :D I think the story is really interesting how it ties in with actual people... and it doesn't hurt that the guys are all nice to look at it hehe
Actually Uta no prince-sama has some good music if it's anything like the anime. I heard the rhythm game aspect of it is really good tooPosted 5 months ago # -
I think Aksys will benefit from localizing a romance game which includes complex gameplay. I'm a part of visual novel fandom, so I'm often willing to get into an interactive story even if it lacks statistics, strategy, action, etc. But I'm aware that for a lot of fans, gameplay takes precedence. So here's some recent examples of worksafe visual novels with quite a bit of gameplay:
* The PSP game Tantei Opera Milky Holmes, which includes some puzzle elements. It was created by a small company called Bushiroad. It had an anime series spinoff back in 2010. Some people on 4chan /jp/ are trying to translate it.
* Wand of Fortune, a PS2/PSP game from Idea Factory and Otomate. Includes reverse harem story, simulation gameplay and card battles. It's relatively cute compared to Hakuouki, but if the two companies are willing to license it, then this might be a good choice for Playstation Store, especially if it will work on the Vita.
* Real Rode, a PS2/PSP game from HuneX and Kadokawa Shoten. Both a genuine eastern RPG and a reverse harem game. I don't know if either company is looking to license their games, but this one has promise.
And even though I like console games, it may be a good idea to look for potentially good games on Windows, iOS, and Android.

Well, one step at a time of course. It's almost certain that Aksys is playing 'wait and see' before even thinking about releasing another otome game, but if Hakuoki does do well, I'm guessing Hiiro no Kakera is next.
Idea Factory seems particularly keen on bringing their otome properties to America, and Hiiro no Kakera is not only one of their strongest sellers, it's a franchise. Sequels and name recognition are a big part of the video game industry.

wouldn't it fall under NISA though since they're the ones localizing the atelier games?Atelier Elkrone AND Uta no Prince-sama actually both fall under NIS. NIS developed UtaPri, sooo they would be the ones to bother with localizing it. They might be holding back waiting to see if Hakuoki does well as some of their other otome titles bombed/ish like Rhapsody and Atelier Annie. Then again, because they bombed they might not even consider Elkrone nor UtaPri.
THAT being said I'd really like to see Palais de Reine, but that's a PC game and kinda old ;D
Barring that I DO NOT want to see high school otome games like TokiMeki GS, Da Capo, even Starry Sky =_= so boring, nothing exciting happens. Just people yammering on about how their life is going. I mean, you guys are pretty and all but I want magical adventures with real magic! I like different and exciting like UtaPri, Star Project, Garnet Cradle, Real Rode, Wand of Fortune, Angelique... stuff like that. Hopefully the next one will have less doormat too. Can't stand doormat characters.
If one of those titles comes out I might forgive Aksys for their horrible font choice in Hakuoki :PEdit: This board isn't UTF-8 compliant ;^;

All I need is Hakuoki and Hiiro no Kakera.. and my life will be complete! :)

I too would love to see Hiiro no Kakera translated. However another good one I think would be Harukanaru Toki no Naka de. I'm assuming they wouldn't want anything on the PS2, so maybe the port of 3 if they're leaning toward the PSP or Yume no Ukihashi which is on the DS and has more choices.
For those who don't know Harutoki games are otome games with adventure and fighting in them. I think they might appeal to a more wide range, especially to those people who have been turned off by Hakuoki when they hear that it's just a visual novel.

I want Twinkle Crusaders for the psp. No too well known to Americans, there's some game play in there on top of the novel part.
Also the psp version is for all age (Unlike the PC version)

After seeing this article by Siliconera, i'm starting to get interested in this Clock Zero game, a sci-fi, post apocolyptic, romantic adventure game? Might be what i needed.

That game looks cool. Nice to see a game that has a unique, interesting plot instead of just guys to romance.

I actually think that Zettai Meikyuu Grimm is an appropriate otome game release following hakuouki. It seems like a really good game that would appeal to many fans of otome games and possibly attract new players:)

I'm not too sure about Zettai Meikyuu Grimm because of it's time limit on all of its choices (and it's Director's Cut for PC was much better), unlike Clock Zero which only has a few, but if Hakuoki continues to do well, I think that the fandisc should be translated next before anything else.
Otherwise, I would speculate that La storia della Arcana Famiglia or Hiiro no Kakera would be considered since they're each getting their own anime series later this year. But based on personal taste, I'm rooting for Clock Zero and Wand of Fortune II.Posted 3 months ago # -
If Aksys takes the lead in releasing Otome games and other companies form or follow to do some of the same, then that'd be an extremely pleasant surprise. Personally, I don't expect to see no more than a few released here in there for the next few years. I am extremely happy that Aksys did release Hakuoki.
I'm personally rooting for Little Busters and Hiiro no Kakera translated.
Especially Little Busters, as it is a PS Vita release.
Regardless of the decisions made, I wish Aksys the best.

Hiiro no Kakera will be getting an anime soon, so that will probably help to boost its popularity and recognition, but I have to say Hakuouki was a great choice to bring over. It's not overly focused in one category (like being solely a romance-centered or a story-centered game), so it can serve as an 'introduction' of sorts into visual novels, particularly otome games.
I'd be happy with any otome, or visual novel, that they decide to bring over. I'd love to see Tokimemo GS on a personal note (especially 3rd story that's being ported to the PSP), and Heart no Kuni no Alice. HnK already has its manga localized (I've even seen it sold at book fairs), so there's a small amount of recognition for the name already. Wand of Fortune also looks extremely cute!In short though, I'm in support of anything they decide and I'll surely buy it. :) It makes me beyond happy at how well Hakuouki seems to be doing.

But Clock Zero is on my list too so ill be rooting for it too :)
