Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3, to me, is a classic and although I've played it years ago it still remains my favorite to this day. The main game and both its fandisks were ported to the PSP. It can stand on it's own and you don't really need knowledge of the first two game to understand its plot. The reason I love this game so much is not only does it have a really engaging plot with time travel, it has a strong heroine that fights tooth and nail for her good ending with her friends/the guy of her choice. The art might not be as gorgeous as Otomate's games but they're nice, time travelling and trying to figure out how to get a good ending is really really fun and adds a lot to the replay value, there's an rpg battle system (which, admittedly, isn't completely refined but it's imo it's better than the ones in the later Haruka games), there are animated cutscenes, and the guys cater to a wide range of type from the boy next door, to the twisted teammate, all the way to the enigmatic enemy commander (although his route's in the fandisc.) There are OVAs and an animated movie released for Haruka 3 and a few manga one shots for it but they don't really compare to the actual game. I can go on forever about how much I love this game, its plot, and its character and I'd cross my fingers forever for this game to be considered even though it'd probably have slim chance since it's by Koei's Ruby Party.
Totes agree with this. I looooove this game, I have it and its spinoff/sequel + merchandise littering my room. Nozomi Kasuga is my favorite otome heroine, because despite being the "self-insert" she can stand on her own and has character development. It's weird because I like her more than most of the guys. I even got custom Converse to match hers.
I thought 4+5 were really good too, actually I liked all of them (though the first 2 were essentially simulations while the others are RPGs)... all had really interesting historical settings, but the story of 3's was the most engaging I think. After a certain point in the game, I was like "omg Chrono Trigger"
I would be happy with more otome games coming over in general, but I just had to gush over that one. I wish it were more well-known; too bad most people are exposed through anime adaptations and I didn't like the Haruka 3 OVAs. Doesn't do the game justice.
