I asked about it in the comments and I'll ask about it here as well:
Is it possible to make the 3DS version regionfree? As an European fan of the original game I'd really like to be able to play this one as well.

I believe that region locking on the 3DS may be universal, but I may be wrong.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by "universal reagion locking", anyway I heard that publishers could choose whether do use a region lock or not, not sure though.
Also, I have a new question. When you say PSN does that mean it will be available for the PSP or PS3 or both, and can that be put to the European PSN?
People of AKSYS, I am thrilled! "I hope a nice publisher picks it up." they say. Yeah right, been there, done that. I knew they would try to get the license. I didn't buy that for a second, but I still needed to hear it from the horse's mouth. I'm double dipping on this one, but I'm not sure which version I'll open. It depends on possible exclusive features. Right now, I'm planning on playing the 3DS version and keeping the Vita version sealed. I don't want to buy a Vita right now anyway, no siree! All I need to hear now is that pre-order announcement. Like I said before though, I would love to see this game by the end of the year, but please don't rush this project AKSYS! Slow and steady wins the race. Take your time. We don't want to see bad acting, translation mistakes, and most importantly, glitches/bugs. I honestly don't think that AKSYS will screw up though. I can't wait to see the final product. (please let there be a dual language setting)

Double dips is the way to go, the way of the samurai xD
So, should we be expecting an English trailer sometime down the line, or will we just go ahead and watch the subtitled Japanese trailer? And personally, I have no strong feelings one way or the other on the title.
I'm proud of you Aksys! This gives me a good excuse to go back to 999 and unlock that good ending that keeps eluding me...

Totally agree. Take ALL the time you need on this one. Now that it's officially happening, I'm officially happy. Make sure the voices are GREAT, and the writing is as good as 999's excellent English script.
Hey everybody, a couple notes:
(I just joined, and I think it's so awesome that people who actually work at Aksys post here. You guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite companies...)
So, in addition to my above question about the trailers, do you have any plans on dubbing the promo anime? I wouldnt be too upset if you didn't, but it would be mighty interesting if you did...

I apologize that I was not more specific. To echo what Belisarius said, the 3DS is region locked to it's respective region. What I meant by my post, if perhaps erroneous, is that by 'universal' I had meant 'all,' as in all 3DS games are region locked. I do not currently own a 3DS and I apologize that I could not confirm it.
The only system that I know of that publishers can choose to release partially or completely region free (by paying additional publishing fees) would be the Xbox 360, as CAVE publishes a few of their games from time to time as region free.
The Playstation 3, PSP, and Vita on the other hand, are completely region free!
If you import the (hard copy) Vita version, you will be able to play it on your system with no problem, account, trophies and all! The 'PSN' release means that it will be a digital Vita version available for purchase. I have heard rumors that you would have to play it on the account that you purchased the game if you buy the digital version (provided that you make and purchase funds for an American PSN account), thus you will be unable to play the game on your main account and earn trophies on there (provided if that matters to you). The game would still work completely fine, trophies and all, on your American account.
[If I am incorrect about the Vita digital games statement please feel free to correct me, I do not currently own a Vita either, haha.]
If you go the Vita import route, I definitely would recommend buying the hard copy to avoid the loops you have to jump through.
I hoped that cleared up things a little!

It did, however I can't afford two different handhelds and the 3DS has so many other games I wan't to play, so if the 3DS version isn't published in Europe I won't be able to play it.
So, Amazon has a pre-order already up with the date listed as Oct. 24, 2012. I'm assuming this is just a wild guess, but is there anything to it? (Just in case?)
I think Amazon (and GameStop for that matter) just throw in placeholder dates initially. It's probably waaaay too early. Plus Aksys hasn't announced the date, and they usually do in some sort of news post or press release.
