Hmm... indeed. Their been a recent increase of spam bots as of late. Isn't there any possible way of permanently getting rid of them?

They're not bots; they're real people paid to get links up for Google/Yahoo analytics. We try to get to them all, but unfortunately we don't have all that much time.
We should probably deputize a few members to act as mods in exchange for stuff...

I agree. If it does come to fruition, I would also like to volunteer.
As a note for people to watch out for about the spam, from what I have noticed:
- The offenders usually post a 1x1 transparent image at the beginning of their posts, as such it is not noticeable. However, if you 'QUOTE' them, you will see an IMG tag. I believe they use this method to 'grab' your IP address, as you are technically 'downloading' the image.
- So far, they always use about a sentence from another members post. This can be anywhere from the first page of a topic to the most recent. To check, copy the sentence and paste it into Google, if the Aksys Games Forums pop up in the results, click on it and it will usually take you to the page of the original poster of that sentence. To make it easier, paste the line into Find (Ctrl+F) and it should direct you to your destination.
- They seem to like the number '85,' as they often use it in their user names (although, granted, legitimate users may also use 85 so please do not use this as a definitive judgment).
- I noticed that a lot of them are based in China, and the guy who owns the offending domains so far owns about 250 others as well.
- If they use 'nyaa' in their post... well... we know only one member who uses it, ha ha. So if it is not Neko that is the poster, that should raise some concerns as well.
Also, a question, if I may? Should we come across a spammer, should we make a general 'Reporting' thread where anyone can post the offender's post link to have said post deleted? I feel that it will make the process easier, just in case a Moderator (or equivalent) does not catch all of the posts due to other people replying in the topic.Granted, one could say that one could look at the post history of the offender, which of course would work thoroughly, except if there are 2 or more spammers posting at the same time, in which some posts may get lost on one of the busy days.

Mr. Stewart, it was really informative nyaa xD

I too would assist in cleaning up spammers, and also a cool custom name besides the word "Member" like I mentioned in a previous thread (Member Signatures, like what Matty or Magna has, but different.), lol.
Anyways, besides Mr. Stewart's cool idea, this forum needs a report link on members posts or on the main forum page. (Why this has never been implemented on this forum is beyond me. Almost all other forums do this, but not this one?)
Of course the title of this topic would have also been fine with either Jumbocock or YMIACL/Classy Lady there, lol.

I'd like to help out for sure. I may not be the most active poster, but I DO view the forums each day.

I know that I read every single new post in every single updated thread at the start of every morning, and repeatedly throughout the day; I check very thoroughly. Unfortunately, we need to sleep, so that's when the new spam often appears. I don't see a need for a report thread myself, because all of them are pretty obvious to me, but I will confer with the other mods.

I was merely giving my thoughts about Magna_Mixalis' idea about 'deputized members.'
I understand that Moderators are not active on the forums 24/7, that is a given. From the looks of it, the spammers are aware of the general downtime and will always strike during said time (given that they are perceptive and adaptive). Hence is why I thought that Magna_Mixalis' idea had merit, as various members (including myself) visit here at random intervals and various times (such as the middle of the night, life affairs permitting).
Admittedly, I should have stated that my personal idea was in the event that
1. Magna_Mixalis' idea did not come to pass and that
2. it would be a substitute for a full-on 'Report' function should it be too difficult / not efficient enough to implement.
I honestly should have realized my err in explaining sooner. I am sorry. Also, I would like to remind everyone that in the event that a spammer starts posting, please do NOT quote them, as you will be re-posting the IMG in their quote and thus spreading their intent.
Of course, I am sure the Moderators are aware of this, and I am sure that they will edit your post in case you do accidentally re-post the IMG, accidents happen but prevention is the key.

Well, the spammer was taken care of. It seems like they're hitting the forums everyday now nyaa.

Hmm... The spam has been less frequent, though they still appear from time to time (and luckily with less spam too.) Any word as to a solution to the spam people nyaa?

The spam is getting ridiculous. May not be copying posts, but still annoying. People actually get paid to do this? That's a really sad job... though I suppose a job is a job...

Yeah, more spambots have been happening lately, now we really need a report button or something...

I've Come to Deliver Some Bad Luck!Posted 11 months ago # -
Or find the person creating the spam, and hit him/her with a rock... or something...
That reminds me... when Aksys is at the Expo, I'm getting the feeling that more spammers/spam bots are going to appear during those days.
