There's plenty of explanations. Most of them have the word business involved. It's the world we live in, dude.

Although some games give you content that IS on the disc. Stuff like Graces F. Half that DLC is stuff you can unlock by playing the game, or you can pay to not have to deal with the hassle. Or there's DLC like Record of Agarest War that just boosts your characters to Super Saiyan status. Rather than having to grind for it.

Information on the disc should never be locked out as far as I am concerned. I buy a movie, I expect to get all the feature on the movie disc. But oh wait! The deleted scenes cost an extra 10 bucks! If that were to happen there would be such a shitstorm that people wouldn't know what to do with themselves, so why do we put up with it for video games? I've started avoiding games with on-disc DLC for that very reason. If you purchase a disc, you should really have access to all the information on it. It's just poor ethics otherwise.

Hmm... in regards to movies, yeah, I'd like everything to be made available. As for games, I'm not sure if I'd share the same sentiment. Well... I suppose it would depend on the game. Fighters, such as Blazblue or Street Fighter x Tekken, I'd prefer all the content to be made available. Rpgs, like Graces or Xillia, I don't mind if the content on disc would be paid dlc, since as The Console states, its obtainable in game or you can pay a fee to not deal with the hassle. It saves time and in a world with patches and updates are common in games now, saving time with dlc is fine by me.

That's under the assumption that the DLC IS available normally throughout the game. I'm referring to DLC similar to what Mass Effect 3 did (using this as an example since it's probably the most well known currently.) There was no way to access this content, which was on the disc, unless you paid 10 dollars or got the Collector's Edition.

Now, what got me about this one is that they blatantly lied, saying it was too late for the content to be put on the disc, and yet they still got it on the disc lol. That's not the issue though, if it's on the disc, it should be available through normal gameplay. There is no logical reason as to why, other than greed, they should be allowed to do that.

So, if I know a game will have DLC on the disc that CANNOT be obtained through regular gameplay, I will most likely not purchase said game, no matter what fancy bonuses they may promise.

Aside from greed, I suppose the other reason is so that the players don't have to wait long to access it. And in the DLC description, they state that the content can be obtained in game. In the end, DLC on disk doesn't bother me too much as it saves me time doing somewhat daunting in game tasks or saves time when I'm downloading the content.I wouldn't be too happy if I had to download a huge file and it gets cut off due to a bad connection nyaa.

DLC as a pre-order bonus sometimes isn't worth it since they increase the LE price to sometimes absurd prices (such as the upcoming Halo 4 LE.) Hmm... I guess I do prefer Physical Content in a LE, but as I said before, I don't mind what a publisher puts in a LE, as I'd buy the LE if the price is reasonable.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is coming, and after reading a article on the LE, which looks nice, despite the fact that it's not the NA one and their seems to be talk about free dlc characters. It seems that depending on who you reserve your copy from, you'll have early access to specific characters. Despite the characters being free, does anyone think that's a odd way of handling things? For me, its a rather... unique method, though highly unnecessary, considering its free.

I think DLC is something of a mixed bad, but refusing to buy a game that has some on-disk DLC is stupid since you can be missing out on many many great games that way, and it's just dumb to miss out on a great game just because of something like that. Now while I am opposed to On-Disk DLC, I think it depends on the type of game and the type of DLC. In an RPG like Tales of Graces, they offer costumes but while it's annoying to pay for them, I'm still fine with it since they are just Costumes that don't provide any bonuses. Sure they come with some stats, but I mean they are very weak stat gains, nothing you couldn't already gain by a billion other titles that the game hands to you. A game like Mass Effect 3, I do agree that stuff like that should be available on the disk without having to buy the DLC.

Still DLC in general I feel gets a bad reputation, I mean generations ago people would beg for something like DLC to exist so that games we liked could get more love and it solved the problem of having to buy the same game multiple times for all the content. I do agree that paid DLC is wrong, but DLC in general is a great thing that I just think needs to have the kinks worked out of it's system. I mean some great examples (IMO anyway) of REAL DLC that's offered later on and is not on disk, would be things like BlazBlue's additional characters, and in the case of the Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3, 5 Additional Pilots and Class 1 Suits to use.

The Street Fighter Anniversary CE looks quite nice. I also have taken a liking to the Borderlands 2 Ultimate Looters LE. Something finally showed up that will make me want to shell out $150. A very nice replica that can hold one of those "hot dog" dogs.

I probably would have gotten the SF Anniversary LE, but it comes the same time as the Borderlands one, and I don't think I'll have the money for that one considering the other games I'm waiting for that month.
