Was wondering if anyone would be able to answer this. Would be nice to know if I have to upgrade my HD on my PS3 in order to support this game.

i dont think it may be too big since is a sprite based game, so id give it between 1g and 2g (or maybe 1g and 1.5g) i think it may take a full day downloading, i may move my ps3 to a better spot (closer to router, or maybe even put cable) just to download this

Rumor has it the European version is 15.6GB. With creative coding they can probably reduce that to 5-10GB.
As for Wild Arms's comment, even visual novels these days often weigh in at 5GB. CG alone can take up a lot of space.
Hard drives are cheap though. You can pick up a 300GB labtop hard drive for around $60.

but it cant be 10 gigas... i mean is not even a "torrent" or peer to peer or anything, just direct download, only 1 out of 10 ppl could download something that big.
I know they can be big, but with what ive seen it should be that much, maybe reach 3 gigas (and it will be a lot of time downloading that and asking god for the internet not to go away T_T)
If someone saw the cd in their computer (with what u said that the rumor in european version) is most probably he/she just saw the Gb from the "my computer screen" since most probably he/she couldnt get into the disc, and like in 100% of the games that doesnt reach the minimun ammount of space a cd/cartridge must have to run in a console they just add *empty space* until it reaches the desired space. So for example i know DS games are mostly like 124 mbs?, and normally they just have like 50 mbs being used

i guess that's true. considering the hd install for the ps3 physical copy of the game, i was presuming that it was going to be a larger game. But I guess if they find a way to compress it, it will be fine. 3 gigs is manageable, & like you mentioned, unlike torrents, will take you forever if you had to download 10gbs or something.

All right guys, I figured you might like to hear a reasonably official word on this, so here it is:
I asked around, and it looks like the final size is going to be somewhere around 8-10 gigs. It sounds like a lot, I know, but I've been downloading the debug ROMs at home to take the load off our office internet, and they only take a few hours--I usually start them when I leave for work, and they're done by lunch. My internet connection is nothing special either--about 500 kb/s on a good day.
So there you have it. 8-10 gigs. We should a more solid number closer to release.
Data, data, data. I cannot make bricks without clay.Posted 8 months ago # -
aww crap. my wireless aint gonna like that. my connection is very finnicky so it will likely take me a lot longer (my ISP is a jerk like that).
edit: thanks Belisarius for the official word on it, really do appreciate it.

:O! lol, woa this is unexpected, this will be the first download with so much size in psn, but well... i guess ill have to connect my ps3 directly to the router or something for that day/days of download (my country's speed is like 150kbs if we lucky) at least for the connection i have xD, ill probably be in college so i wouldnt mind the waiting, all i hope is it cost less or 45$.. becaue that is all i have and is not easy for me to get those psn cards xD.
Finally some of those 30 gigs of space of my ps3 will be of use, i barely even used 7gigs with game installs

I figure the size would hurt the publisher more since sony charges by the gig. It probably cuts into their profits somewhat though i guess it's cheaper than manufacturing a disc?

"My internet connection is nothing special either--about 500 kb/s on a good day."
It might be nothing special for someone in Los Angeles, but where I live, I'm lucky if I can get 60kb/s when I'm downloading. I'd kill to get 500. 10 gigs would take me a couple months to download.
I guess I'll still import the European version eventually. I don't have a 360 and the added stuff for the American version don't sound too important.

Let's do some math:
Let's assume 25kb/s average download speed (reasonable for just about anyone, I'd assume). That's 90MB/hr (25*60*60/1000). For 10GB, that's 111hrs (10/.09), or about 4.5 days. Most people with a cable modem or DSL can get at least 10x that speed (or 250kb/s), so it'd take no more than 12hrs, or half a day. That's pretty reasonable. Even for the 25kb/s people, keep in mind that shipping takes 3-5 days as well. I don't really see what the problem is here. I download 5GB+ stuff on a regular basis.

^I have a cable modem and just did a speed test
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/Averaged around 20000kbps, so I guess it's only a few hours wait? That is, once I finally get a PS3.

Note kbps (kilobits per second) is NOT the same as kb/s (kilobytes per second). Divide kbps by 8 to get kb/s (there's 8 kilobits in a kilobyte).

Just the Jap instalation of the disc is 5GB, so i think you all wrong about the size of it, unless some pretty impressive compression is used, but i dont know the ps3 capabilities on that matter.
Posted 8 months ago # -
The install doesn't necessarily include all the info needed to run the game. In any case, I would trust Belisarius's official word on the matter over anything else. I would assume the 8-10GB estimate includes the maximum compression feasible, because they as publishers want the download smaller even more than we as customers do (we download it once, but they have to subsidize the bandwidth cost for each copy sold).

and if we get a drop of connection, we have to be able to start it again without buying it again xD

See my previous post. Install size is not necessarily equal to size on disc (physical media) or size of files required to run the game (digital download). Not that I'm vouching for the veracity of the rumor.

^ Understood Magus, just making sure others know the size of playing Ghostlight's version... To my knowledge, it is not yet available for download on the EU PSN nor is such a release planned, although I haven't checked in several weeks... So if it really is 15.6 GB and Aksys can add the X-Box content and release it around 8-10, well, that's either pretty impressive or a recipe for disaster...

Just to clear up a couple things about game disc installation on hard drives:
1. Because the Blu-ray reader is slower at searching around the disc on the PS3 than the DVD reader on the 360, many developers place various things multiple times to decrease load times. (The European disc size is 15.6 GBs, and there have been many times where the PS3 counterpart has been around 15 Gigs while the 360 version would be about 6-8 Gigs due to having data listed multiple times on the disc.)
2. Because of #1, more developers also make the game take up HDD space to decrease load times.
3. A game like Agarest Senki took up 5 gigs on the HDD space because it decreased load times, but that doesn't mean the game itself cannot be condensed.
4. There would have to be a lot of work on the game data to make sure it isn't riddled with glitches while keeping the 8-10 GB file size, but a lot of the data is just repeating, so all they would have to do is tell the console to read different things for a bulk of the data. At least that's from what little I know about game development. (I know when Rockstar took out the Hot Coffee data from GTA: San Andreas it messed up the game, so there were glitches like there was no tomorrow compared to the original version. Let's hope Aksys doesn't pull a Rockstar.)
And finally:
5. the data saved on the HDD is already 5 GB from the normal disc. Adding an additional 3-5 won't make much of a difference, except for download time, so stop complaining unless you have extremely slow internet access.私はワッフルと読んで下さい。Posted 7 months ago # -
If you're into PC visual novels, AGTH (anime game text hooker) is a nice utility for hooking the text out of the text boxes. From there you can put the outputted text through various utilities, including English translators and furigana injectors. It's a neat way to learn Japanese, and it's what I'm currently doing.
Edit: Woops, wrong thread.

I was lucky to get here, as im having a lot of trouble with my connection speed. Thats why im asking for your help. I've been having issues for some days now, and every speed test i do, offers different results. I am really lost here. cheers and thanks in advance.
