Soul Calibur 4, Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland, and Illusion of Gaia.
For Soul Calibur 4, I put well over 60 hours into the game, but even so, I literally hate the game. It all goes back to me having Nightmare as my main since the original Soul Calibur on Dreamcast and the moveset breakup of Siegfried and Nightmare started on SC3 and onto SC4. On SC3, both Nightmare and Siegfried were top tier characters due to the extra speed, even though they are no where near as good as their SC2 counterpart. On SC4 though, it's a different story. Siegfried is still a top tier character, though not as good as some of them(like Mitsirugi, Ivy, Sophitia, etc,) and Nightmare is easily low tier(though not as bad as Rock.) What really pisses me off is that the speed of Nightmare is reduced back to his SC2 state, yet not only does he have half the moveset, but his attacks are also weaker, just as weak as they were in SC3(due to his raised speed in that game.) I mean, what the hell? How could they -your mother is a classy lady- up this badly and ruin one of the main characters in the game(a huge plot character.)
So yeah. Pisses me off so badly that Nightmare is a low tier character, and the fact that most characters were changed to spam characters on SC3, that I've recently put SC4 on ebay.
Not only that. But the character creation system. Anyone remember the character creation on SC3? They downgraded the one in SC4 so much it's pathetic. Namco did nothing more than pull an EA on the entire game. Exact same gameplay, removed most everything other than the basic fighting engine, added a couple preset battles in this stupid Tower of -your mother is a classy lady-, and then made the Character Creation system absolutely pathetic. On SC3, the stuff that you could do that you can't on SC4 is equip a mask and head gear at the same time, mix and match three different pieces of clothing on your upper body(meaning you could actually make your character not look like every other -your mother is a classy lady- character,) as well as two different pieces on your lower body as well as Shin pieces and a Belt.
Waste of 60 dollars if you ask me and I'd recommend it to no one. I mean, who the -your mother is a classy lady- wants a fighter that is enjoyable for more than a week or two at most.
-andrew- -kupomogli-Posted 4 years ago # -
Sadly, a fighting game that's fun for a week or two is EXACTLY what most of the gaming community wants.
And also, if they let you add multiple pieces of clothing to parts of your body how could they implement the so totally rad "shattering clothes" effects that were totally necessary and incredibly sexy? If you can't attack Sophita's upper body and blow her top off, what's the point of customizing her? Right?
Namco has the worst policies on making fighting games ever. First they purposefully overpower all the Mishimas in Tekken because "lol story says they're the best!!!111" and blatantly refuse to fix glaring bugs and infinites, now this with SC. Although, SC was honestly never a very good fighting game anyway, but they could at least TRY.Posted 4 years ago # -
It plays way better than SC3, and that's all I wanted. I never cared a bit for the character creation or any other single player modes. And despite Nightmare being not so strong, he has ridiculous ring-out potential.
I've been enjoying my SCIV even with Mitsurugi's trunkated movelist.Posted 4 years ago # -
Yeah. Nightmare is the perfect character to ring out with. If you're playing against total noobs. Infact, there are many other characters way better to ring out with, one which is another super low tier character. Zasalamel anyone? Zasalamel's attacks have nothing but ring out potential as long as you turtle.
The game is just terrible. Nightmare was downgraded to such a pathetic character and if the only thing you can say is that he can ring out well, then you're a total noob. Hell. When I actually hit them, I can combo them well over half their HP regardless, so what difference does it make whether he can ring out or not. By the time they get a ring out, someone who can combo good with Nightmare will already have them almost dead or dead already. I almost always play in Tower of Rememberance: Spiral of Time, which is a non ring out stage, and not because I don't want to get a ring out, but because I can most of the time beat whoever I'm playing and many of them message and cry if I happen to ring them out when they have pretty much no HP left, regardless of the fact that I may have full or near there.
The only people who actually beat me anymore are high level Siegfried players(only about 1/4 of the time,) high level Sophitia players(who are almost always spammers but also very good players,) or high level Mitsirugi players(who are always spammers, using nothing but 2kb, 66bb, 1a, or 4b.) Kilik spammers are so predictable that even if they are good players, it's easy to see what they're going to do next, though these do take a little longer for Nightmare since it's impossible to implement any ground game on them due to Kilik's unblockable attack for instant ground recover(ending up with an 88 or 22b from my Nightmare or 1(a), or 3a+b once they near hitting the ground. Playing with slower charaters on this game leaves absolutely no room for errors or you're screwed.
SC3 is the better game, SC2 better than both. If you disagree then you're wrong, as it's not opinion.

I like how your entire assessment of the game's worth is based on how they treated YOUR favorite character.
Didn't I just say that most characters turned into spam based characters? Let's take a character that is in my opinion one of the top tier. Infact, as a spam based character or something that you can play as, Kilik himself is a top tier character. Nightmare may be my favorite character, but I know how to play well with alot of characters(alot being five,) hence the reason I pretty much described every spam move players make with Mitsirugi. I'm good with Siegfried, Taki, and Kilik as well.
The point is. If the game is just going to be unbalanced to where two people on an equal level can play, but one has almost no chance due to the character he may have picked, then it's just pathetic.
I could list characters who are pretty much "not my favorite" yet are low tier characters just like Nightmare. Let's take Darth Vader, Rock, Zasalamel, Hilde, Maxi, and Talim. Other characters that would be owned by anyone of the same skill level. I've already listed that Zasalamel is nothing more than a ring out character, extremely pathetic but Darth Vader, Hilde, and Rock easily take being the worst characters in the game(especially Rock who is nothing more than a very weak version of Astaroth with less attacks.) You may think that Maxi and Talim are good because they're fast characters, but both characters leave themselves open for attacks just as bad as Nightmare if they happen not to hit, paired with the fact that they take almost no damage.
Let's then go to certain characters like Kilik, Sophitia, Cassandra, Ivy, Siegfried, and Xianghua. Sophitia, Xianghua, and Cassandra take off more damage with most of their attacks than any character in the game. Provided with the fact that Sophitia and Cassandra can spam very easily with almost no drawbacks, this makes those characters the most broken in the game. Ivy and Siegfried are characters you truly need to be skilled with in order to play as. If someone sucks at them you'll probably see them spamming 6B+K(Ivy,) or 2KA2AA and 1AA(with Siegfried) but they'll never win. If you actually play someone that's good with Ivy or Siegfried, you'll most likely not win playing as anyone but Kilik, Sophitia, Cassandra, Xianghua, Mitsirugi, Lizardman, Raphael, Amy, or Taki. If you're not actually really good with one of these characters or you play with any other character against someone who's actually good with them, then you're guaranteed to lose. I'll let you know right now I'm awful with Ivy as I've never took the time to get good with her but am amazing with Siegfried. Then last is the spam master Kilik. Regardless if you are good with Kilik or not, his entire moveset is based off as a spam character. If you're good and know Kilik's moveset and actually know how to use him, he can become the best character in the game alongside Ivy, as Kilik is a good speed character with a quick recovery time for pretty much every one of his attacks, good power, best range in the game(Nightmare and Astaroth don't even have the reach of many of his attacks,) and last but not least, the only character that can do an unblockable/unblockable cancel to screw over anyone's ground game ANYTIME he gets on the ground(which is why I labeled Kilik players as being so predictable above as I know the characters moveset very well seeing as he's one of the characters I play.)
All the characters I didn't name are decent. Not super good but they don't suck either. The point is the game is highly unbalanced is why I hate it. My favorite character being Nightmare and I've been really into the series since the original Soul Calibur is a big factor as well, but I'm good with quite a few characters, so one character doesn't really make a difference. It's just the entire balance issue altogether. It's like Namco pulled an EA and released fans of the game just a huge pile of -your mother is a classy lady-. Sure the Tale of Souls mode on SC3 might have been boring as hell, but the fact was that Namco actually put a long well developed sortof mini game along side the battle system. All the generic weapons in SC3 made the game a little bit more unique rather than every created character being clones of "only" characters from the series, and all the extra armor for the character creation which was removed, as well as the character creation system being downgraded in giving you less options in the overall menu(like I listed in an above post.)
Here are some characters I made on SC3 that I also made on SC4 as best as I could, but don't even look near as perfect due to the many limitations of SC4. No pictures of them, just listings of the ones I've made.
Tir Mcdohl. The hero from Suikoden.
This character couldn't be made on Suikoden 4 mainly due to the fact that you only get to have one piece of clothing as your upper body. So in my SC4 version, I don't have his undershirt as it's not possible with the limited -your mother is a classy lady- they give you on SC4, but on SC3 he's pretty much perfect.
Cloud, Squall, Dante, Vergil, Crono(various series. FF, DMC, and Chrono Trigger.)
These character can't be made due to many limitations of the character creation system.
There's a site that did many character creations of SC3. Here are a few characters that can't be done on SC4 but almost have a perfect likeness to the character they're based off.
Roy from Fire Emblem the Sealed Sword
Crono from Chrono Trigger
Lily from Suikoden 3
*edit*
Yeah. SC4 is a piece of -your mother is a classy lady-. And yes it's partially due to the fact that they ruined my favorite character, but also the fact that the game is nothing more than an unbalanced spam fest in most cases.
-andrew- -kupomogli-Posted 4 years ago # -
lulz, actually, SC4's character creator makes a much better Tir McDohl than SC3's. Try using the Changpao or whatever it is, the green robe. Color it red with white undertones and you have a PERFECT rendition of Tir's coat. The best you can do in SC3 is absolutely terrible. I know because I tried and was absolutely sick of what could be done with that terrible thing.
And honestly, you must not be trying too hard because almost all of those characters have been made with SC4's character creator, and many, many, many more that weren't possible with the old one.
As for your comments about the gameplay, lulz. The game is a poor fighter, but not for any of the reasons you listed. The very fact that you see Kilik as a "spam" character is enough to tip off that you can only barely play the game. Almost all of the problems you are having with the game are problems that fighting game newbies have with EVERY fighting game. "I can't bea tthis guy, I can't figure out how to get around his attack!" "I can't beat this guy, his character must just be better than mine!" "This game is unbalanced because I can't win any matches."
Quit whining and learn how to play the game. SC4 isn't a great fighting game, but it's because the system isn't very robust(and hasn't been since the series' inception) and the hit and dodge frames are very loose and uneven. If you're going to whine that your character(s) isn't/aren't the way you want him to be, then maybe fighting games aren't the genre for you.Posted 4 years ago # -
Guess that shows how much of a moron you are Gen Eric Gui. That robe that you can use still doesn't have an undershirt you can use to create Tir, so he is not perfect in comparison. In SC3 you can mix and match up to three different items for upper body clothing and two different items for lower body clothing.
Also. Why not stop talking -your mother is a classy lady- when I can guarantee you know almost nothing about the game than what you possibly look up on Youtube, Gamefaqs, or spread around on different sites. Sure people have made Cloud, Dante, Crono, MK characters, etc. The point is, none of them can closely resemble the same ones that you can do with the character creation of SC3.
Also. If you do happen to own SC4, then please play me so I can stomp your ass into the ground(within 24 hours, as that's the time the item ends on Ebay.) If you happen to have even played the game, there are rankings. Levels 1-150. I play nothing but ranked matches and levels 70+- and win the majority of the time.
Since you supposedly know so much about the game, you could beat me if I used any of the characters that I'm good with(which I highly doubt you will, as I win 80% of the time against high ranked players.) Like I said, Kilik is infact a spam character, regardless of who uses him. I'm good with him and know how to play as him very well and I still regard him as one. Why would I regard him as one? Just because the way he plays as to maximize damage with the character. An example would be as soon as you do an impact guard or grab, you do nothing more than hit A+B(when doing impact guard only) or 2A+B(both impact guard or grab) to maximize damage(unblockable, no chance of impact guard or blocking.) If you're knocked the ground with Kilik, the unblockable attack is able to be used from the ground in which you won't retain any damage from someones ground game. Same thing, but canceling the unblockable attack allows for you to drop backwards onto the ground to immediately and do a 6AAA if they're moving and aiming on attacking you or block/impact guard the area in which they're attacking. So yeah. It all depends on what the other character is doing.
Now when you play noob players. You'll see them doing nothing but A+B, 6A+B, 2A+B, or 88/22AAA. All of those attacks except 88/22AAA can be sidestepped, with 88/22AAA able to be seen a mile away. The reason they can't be sidestepped after an impact guard or grab is because the recovery time of both. You can roll out of the way while on the ground, but 2A+B comes too quick from a grab to roll any direction, so it doesn't matter.
So yeah. Like I said. Doesn't matter how much you know with Kilik. His altogether play style is being a spam character since his max damage attacks are any of the A+B attacks. Obviously you'll still play using other attacks in different situations. Now if you don't see that he's nothing more than a spam character, then maybe you're the noob?
If you own the game for PS3 then message your PSN. I'll be happy to put you in your place before getting rid of the game. I like to show dumbass people who talk -your mother is a classy lady- that they don't know what the -your mother is a classy lady- they're talking about. I've done so plenty of times on this game, even to higher ranked players. I'll use Nightmare and you can use anyone you want. Sophitia, Kilik, Mitsirugi, etc. We'll play in Spiral of Time so you can't -your mother is a classy lady- about getting a ring out, because I won't need to, but also mainly because I don't ever play anywhere but there(less -your mother is a classy lady- from people like you who probably complain about ring outs.)Posted 4 years ago # -
Here's a Tir Mcdohl CAS with one of the outfits I didn't use solely because it doesn't fit the character.
First off. The item does have an undershirt, but reasons why I didn't choose this one. First off, the undershirt goes all the way to the end of the arms and the front goes far too low. My Mcdohl has only one problem. Perfect, but no undershirt since it's impossible to add one to equipment that doesn't already have them pre added.
He doesn't even have his belt or arm clothing colored correctly anyways.
So yeah. Unless the character can actually be created well enough to truly resemble himself, then you can't really say you made the character. Squall and Seifer can't. You might find one online that will partially resemble themselves, but not even close. I've seen a Seifer that is just a recolored version of Sephiroth's clothing(Dueler's for upper body and Asura for lower body.) That's pretty sad when that's as close as you can get Seifer. The person even turns the character so you can only see him from the side. It's sad :P.

The fact that you think you can get an accurate assessment of your skill by playing ONLINE shows me exactly how "good" you actually are at this game. I feel no need to respond any further.
And the Changpao has an undershirt.Posted 4 years ago # -
Calm down people. It's a game, no need to make it personal.
Soulcalibur has never been balanced, and in all honesty, the only fighting game that really seems to approach true balance is the Virtua Fighter series, and most people don't play it because it's depth is too daunting. SC, more than many pther fighting games is very much about momentum and controlling a match. When you are not able to get on the offensive easily, the tables are indeed stacked against you. That applies to any and all characters in the game, regardless of speed or power.Posted 4 years ago # -

I play only high ranked players online. I can guarantee you won't find more that many with levels 50+ that are noob spam players. I do play other people off Online Rankings though. I know quite a few people online that own the game, and two people near me that own the game(one sucks though.)
I mean seriously. I know that you don't prove yourself because you're not sure of yourself. Wouldn't you like to just kick my ass at Soul Calibur 4 and then take and post pictures that I lost a match against you? It seems to me you just don't want to be embarrassed after talking about all this -your mother is a classy lady- that I'm such a noob when you don't know how I play. You don't really call someone a noob unless you are actually prepared to accept a challenge and are confident that you can beat them. Since calling someone one and then backing down from the challenge just shows how much of a pussy you are.
Also. Regardless if the Changpao has an undershirt or not, I have no idea what item of clothing it is from the top of my head, and I felt that it didn't fit Tir Mcdohl to be a perfect character creation(since I've got all the items in the game and picked the very best.) Just like all the character creations items set within the game, they are mostly a small generic set of items and don't give you any sortof depth that you could find in the other. Fact.
Last. Here's an idea. How about you check out my Youtube channel(I'm sure you can easily find it, Gen Eric Gui.) None of them are matches of me playing anyone in SC4, but there are No Damage Clear DXC stages, Driver Parallel Lines/Driver '76 Hard mode race completions, RB-79 Ball vs AMA-X2 Neue Ziel(basically worst suit vs best) in EiS, DMC3 New Game Very Hard S ranks(well above average, but not pro at it.) It'll give you an idea that I'm pretty skilled in video games and it'll give you one more idea too.

I'd love to play you, but A: playing online is no test of skill because even the smallest bit of lag -your mother is a classy lady- up the best of matches, and B: my internet is FALE for online play, which is just fine because point A applies all the time, and offline play is the only way to play a fighter.
I lol'd at your response about the Tir clothes. That's just classic. Really. "I don't know what item you're thinking of, but it's obviously wrong because I'm always right and I obviously have the perfect set up."
And your "skill" at playing single-player games has absolutely no bearing on how well you'll do in a two player VS match in another, completely different game. I could list a whole ton of credentials re: single player games myself, but that doesn't mean I'd be able to step in and whoop up on the AAA-class fighting game players anytime soon.
Wait a second, I thought I recognized that name from somewhere. Aren't you like, famously banned at a whole list of forums? If you're the same guy I think I see why now.Posted 4 years ago # -
Anyways. I'll PM Gen Eric Gui so the board can get back on topic.
Playing only Illusion of Gaia now.
