So, here's my question.
If I were Aksys, I'd hurry up and make an announcement of BB:CS coming to the consoles to stave off those hungry for the sequel. There is no official arcade release, the arcade scene is dead in the US in many places in the country, and there is no legal way to play this game. Yet, the game (apparently) contains English text.
Guys, I WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY. PLEASE ANNOUNCE A LEGIT VERSION FOR CONSOLES. I don't know how much clearer I can make it.

As I said above... I wonder if he had been given the OPTION to pay that, he would have. I don't know him so I'm not sure, but considering he's on these forums I think he would.
I'm not defending piracy, but what I will say is that currently it is the only way to play Continuum Shift in the States. And for the record, even the arcades that have the game are breaking the "For sale and use in Japan only, or you're breaking copyright law" rules.
Delays or marketing strategies don't justify piracy, since even in Japan the only way to play BB:CS 100% legally is in the arcades, but still. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more piracy of the game in the US and EU because of zero access.
Doesn't justify it. In the words of Kanye West: "I'm just sayin'...." *shrug*
I do believe a timely announcement from Aksys or ArcSys of a console port of BB:CS will stave off some of this. I think a lot of people are downloading the game, a lot of FANS are downloading the game, out of "necessity". (note the quotation marks, no one has a RIGHT to pirate a game simply because it isn't available here, but the temptation and ease of justification increases exponentially with lack of availability).
It's a lot easier to feel guilty about pirating something you can get from the store, than something that may or may not come to your country. Again, does not make it right, but it can be easier to justify in peoples' minds.
And one final thought: I, for one, would PayPal Aksys on the spot $59.99 plus 7% sales tax if I could get a blessing to d/l Continuum Shift. I know this won't happen. But it had to be said. :)
A) Don't flaunt piracy in a developer's face, that's low-class, arrogant, and rude.
B) Aksys didn't distribute the game to anyone. If my understanding is correct, it's a Japanese copy, and it's a proof of concept for cracking the Taito Type X2 system, much like when the emulation scene cracked the CPS3 board years back.
C) We'll see just how many people will rush to buy the Japanese or Euro PC release of Calamity Trigger when it comes out. Assuming of course, Aksys doesn't miraculously do a 180 and change their stance on the game's PC release stateside.
...And hey, there's a thought, Akakaze.

To the best of my knowledge, we do not accept PayPal donations, although if you are interested in giving us money, you are always welcome to purchase our games. I particularly reccomend Agarest, since it is new, or Jake Hunter: Memories of the Past, because I spent a really long time working on it. Of course, you can always find the full list here.
Piracy is a crummy thing, and I feel for all of you who want to play BBCS and can't do so legally, so believe me when I say "thanks" to those of you who are doing the right thing. You have brought honor to your names.

Aksys is the publisher, ArcSys the developer.
And I wasn't flaunting, just trying to state the frustration a lot of people are feeling and my opinion (just an opinion) that the lack of a console announcement is causing more people to pirate - which - if you follow corporate research apparently reduces sales.
I look forward to Agarest and will be picking up a copy for 360, as a collector's item if nothing else. :)

No, kind sir, what causes people to pirate is not that, but simple greed.
Want a game? Buy it at your local store. It's not there? Hunt it down on the internet.
For a well known game like BlazBlue, there should be one store selling it nicely and all, even for the PC.
You can try several, well known online stores, that deal with imports in a regular basis.
That way, the creators get their daily bread, even if you don't live in the area the game is normally sold.

Not as cut and dry as everyone would like it to be.
There are people pirating this game who...
1) would have never bought this game and still won't.
2) would have bought it and now they won't. (because they're douchebags)
3) would never have bought this game and now will. omgz?!
4) planned to buy CS on console, and now won't. (because they're douchebags, though it means they miss out on added story)
5) planned to buy CS on console, still will, and plan to keep a copy on their laptop for convenience because there isn't an officially endorsed PC port.
6) will be making a good show of scolding the other people who pirate while secretly pirating it themselves. :)
Lastly, there are people who won't pirate the game. Either they can't be bothered, don't want to risk being caught, don't know how, or genuinely believe it to be wrong.
I'm not going to praise or baste any of you for your personal choices, but if you did pirate it for whatever reason, please buy the console version when it comes out. (chances are you plan to anyway if you dig the story)
If they ever release a PC version as well, buy it too for that matter. Yeah, you'll have already spent the money once, but consider it interest for that "loan" you took out. :P We've been trying to tell them for awhile that there's demand here, and I don't think this recent case of pirating was quite the show of demand they were looking for.
(For my part, I'm going to e-mail Aksys with some suggestions to pass on to Arcsys, because I'm arrogant enough. Ways to make life hell for potential pirates in the future. Am I one of those pirates? Probably!)

I plan on buying the game for consoles if it materializes. I guess my main concern is this leak may cause them to not even bother. I know for a FACT, having attended a gathering this weekend where lots of BB:CS was played, that there are lots of people (based on my small sample size) that fall under category #5.
But I'm a software developer myself and hang out with a lot of other software developers who understand the need to support companies - especially in this climate - and when they do pirate it is only under circumstances like this where the software isn't available any other way, and will purchase the program when it is.
That said, even arcades here in the US that have LEGIT copies of BB:CS are breaking copyright law since Aksys hasn't released the game officially in US arcades...
So who's breaking the law "more"? Those that pirate a copy of BB for personal use or those who profit off an illegal, but legit, copy of the game?

As far as avoiding leaks in the future, it's pretty "simple". The Taito Type X2 is basically a lowspec PC, running Windows. Thus, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. The Type X2 is currently the most popular board in Japan to release new games on as well. Now that the board is basically cracked, it's probably about time to move to a different system for BlazBlue 3 - as at this point it's going to end up like the original Neo Geo MVS. Then again, those games are still doing well in Japanese game centers. I was there recently and can attest that MVS games still exist, and are still being played, despite ease of piracy.
