I would like to through in my support behind making the game region free.
I live in Japan and could have bought the Japanese version a long time ago. I have been waiting for the english release because english is my native language and its a lot easier to play RPGs in english.
I know its a selfish reason but I want to play this game and I want to understand it 100%.
I look forward to playing... if I can on my Japanese 360...

Aussie gamer here with a Japanese 360.
Since pre-orders can be hard to get a hold of sometimes (such as the Idol M@ster SE from play-asia which sold out in under 10 minutes), it would be fantastic if we could get a response as soon as possible Belisarius, so we can choose an appropriate course of action.
Of course I (we) understand that getting this sort of information isn't always easy; but I implore you to do your best to find out for us.

I think a full fledged release outside of NA might be asking a bit to much... maybe?
Though, it's not really needed if the NA version ends up being region free.

I know it's only been a week and that good things come to those who wait, and I'm fully willing to wait some more. I'm just curious.

I suspect you are right; but if they do choose to region lock it (a decision which I suspect has already been made, even if we don't know the details yet), it would be nice to know if I'm going to have to import a game I can't play just for the goods =\

Because I'm planning on building my new PC within the next month or two so it's nice to know whether I'll have £70 to spare for a game or if I should just go ahead and buy better components. Unfortunately I'm not rich so I do have to manage my money. :p

Honestly I don't see how Aksys could market their games outside of the Americas because I'd imagine that would infringe upon copyright laws... But that's not to say that the game won't be region free, it just means an official confirmation from Aksys probably cannot be issued. However, this is purely speculation on my part. I would just operate under the assumption that the 360 game hopefully will not be region locked and everyone in the world should order at least one copy per person. Yet if it does turn out to be NTSC-M only coding then look on the bright side: everyone abroad who ordered it will still have received a cool collector's item. I know as soon as I saw The Really Naughty LE I had to have it, even though I don't own a 360...

What copyright laws are you talking about? There have been multi-region 360 titles released for certain markets before. Some examples include Dead Rising's US version, which works on JP consoles, and Mushihimesaam Futari, which is region free yet only released in Japan.

Thank you for taking my quote out of context... I never said that titles must have region specific coding. I've imported games for years and never owned a foreign system. Like I said, I was hypothesizing as to why they might not want to issue a statement on whether or not the game would run on another region's console.
Aksys is a publisher not a developer. So what happens if they, or another like company, license a game for this region and someone else acquires the rights for a PAL release? Now let's run with this scenario for a second; imagine Publisher A were scheduled to release Game X a week, a month or even a year before Publisher B can get it out in their region. Furthermore, Publisher A announces that their release will be region free and/or markets the game to other regions. Now I'm not familiar with the legal stipulations used when a publisher signs a deal with a developer to localize their game, but I doubt they have carte blanche over the IP. A scenario such as the one described would A) probably breach their contract, B) possibly violate directives that regulate international commerce thus resulting in a civil lawsuit, C) preclude any future business dealings between the publisher and developer, and, D) make the offending company look bad to their peers in the industry.
Now I'm not saying nor have I ever thought that Agarest for the 360 does not stand a chance to be a region free disc. In fact, I'm all for it being region free because I play imports and think anyone who wants to play this game in English for the 360 should be allowed to. The point of my original post was that people need to realize that this issue may not be as simple as it has been made out to be. It is not the same as Dead Rising, a game both developed and published by Capcom. When multiple parties are involved in different regions across the globe the situation is much more complicated...

In regards to this, copyright laws would apply only to the sale withen the "region". for a publisher to make somethign region "unlocked" would not infringe on copyright laws because aksys games would still only be selling the product to american retailers. it is then up to the retailer to sell within the US or not. what aksys COULDN'T do (im pretty sure) is then sell the NA edition to GAME for sale within the UK as they would not have UK publishing rights.

sorry kunio-kun, was more trying to flesh-out that fact that regional publisher rights really dont have any bearing on importability, and that it really wouldnt be violationg any rghts for it to be region free vs not region locked,because the publisher is still only selling withen the region and is not responsible for what retailers do.
