Deathsmiles Region Free?

Well I sent a email 2 weeks asking 505 Games the guys who published HOMURA,Raiden III,STRIKER 19451&2,Psyvariar etc in europe about publishing the 360 shmups and have not gotten a answer yet.

Anyone mind bombarding them or do you know of any other publishers that might be interested?

I might sound stupid but for some reason I would not be suprised if Square ENIX Europe would be interested in publishing Death Smiles.

Also I believe the reason why everyone is so "mad" is because something like Raiden Fighter Aces and Raiden 4 have not found a publisher in europe, and a CAVE shmup is supposed to get one seems very unlikely.

Plenty of games are region free and there were never published in all regions ..meaning you can't buy them in every country ..

So can you give us a honest answer weather cave just didn't want it region free , in case a publisher for europe somehow shows up in a couple years or so ?

Guess it's all on 505 Games, I honestly cannot find another publisher from the previous generation of console who published shmups in Europe.
Or wait there is UBI SOFT which published(god knows what they will do to the cover though) SENKO RONDE which the funny thing was NTSC version had PAL region enabled so you can stumple upon in random Gamestops.bargain bins etc the NTSC version of the game.

As far as I know if you want to enable a region it has to be approved in that region, but that should not really be a issue with Death Smiles due to well it's not like you strangle people or something like in Manhunt.

Though if it have something to do with limited edition you can always do like CAVE and region lock limited one but unlock the regular version like they did with ESPGALUDA II

Nooo ! :'( Can you tell us why ? Does it cost extra $$$ to make a game region free ? I can understand why some games are region locked, but when the game is not scheduled to be released in Europe I really don't get it :(

Sorry guys but the 360 is a region locked console, it would have to be published in your region to be able to play it. That's why I got a PS3, it doesn't have a region lock on any of its games!

That isn't entirely accurate. It is up to each publisher as to whether they want to region protect their game. For example, many games published in North America are region free. Not to mention the PS3 is entirely region-free either as digital content as well as Blu-ray movies still have region protection.

It's a shame that Deathsmiles isn't able to be region free, and that region protection still exists in the marketplace (what exactly is region protection protecting?) In any case I do hope that a publisher brings it over to the EU so that anybody that wants to play this game gets a chance.

Actually doing a bit digging 505 GAMES have published even more shmups in europe
here is the list
XII STAG,Raiden3,Samurai Aces,Strikers 1945,HOMURA,SOL DIVIDE,Gigawing Generations

Why have they not picked up current generation shmups is beyond my understanding.

I'm told that it should be playable on Asian Xbox 360s.

Eesh that scared me there.
So far the only USA games I've run into that JP360 fails to play is AC4, Blaz Blue etc. worked fine.
Hopefully DSLE works as well I held off on purchasing the JP version because Sakura isn't freely available right off the bat, have to buy the Death Label super nonsense Cave always does with its games.

curiously speaking, what is the process of making a game region free?
I'm now really annoyed at the possibility of no european publisher would pick this game up, and 505 Games is not replying to my email too :(

From what I've read online, the publisher needs to submit their game to the ratings board in each region they wish to make the game region free in, even though the game itself won't be released in that region. This appears to be under the guidelines that publishers must follow to release a game on the Xbox 360.

I've put up a post on the xbox.com message board to try and get more answers from Microsoft, as well as emailed Major Nelson to see if this is the case. Region protection really needs to die.

I know this doesn't easy any tension but I can offer this information:
If the company has to comply to game regulations in each region then I can imagine that would get pretty rough. There are many countries that have some very strict guidelines for game to even be released in there. For example, Germany has some serious requirements about violence against humans. Therefore any game that has such a theme has to change the humans into aliens or robots. Playing Call of Duty would involve blue men coming after and shooting you. Many more countries have jumped on the ban-violent-video-games band wagon such as Venezuela and Australia (or at least heading there).

This is what doesn't make sense to me though, why should a publisher need to go through ratings boards in regions they're not releasing a game in? This is seemingly a Microsoft requirement too, as all physical game releases on the PS3 are region free. Sony is able to do it, why not Microsoft?

I am from the UK and I don't think that it's fair that Japan releases such great games like DoDonPachi and Otomedius G and it doesn't ever release anywhere else but with the US cover for DEATHSMILES, it just sticks the needle in the coffin.
Jealousy is such a wonderful thing and I would die of joy if DEATHSMILES released in Europe.
So Aksys and CAVE, bring DEATHSMILES to the UK or I might just start complaining heavily.

Hi, french 360 ntsc/j owner here.

Can you confirm us that the us version of deathsmiles by aksys will work on japanese 360 ?
A lot of ntsc/j 360 owners would be happy to give away their japanese version for this us version ( especially with all those goodies includes ).

Hi, uk Pal 360 owner.

I have just joined this forum only to post this message about PAL xbox owners missing out on all these shmups, theres nothing that angers me more than finding out about a game and then knowing the only way I am going to get to play it is to import a USA or Japanese XBOX 360 when I have already spent money on a pal XBOX 360. I know that it is probably due to the fact that this genre doesnt sell very well in Europe anymore (correct me if I am wrong) but it still makes me angry that they dont look at XBLA for the europe customers to download these shmups.

Also it seems the Xbox 360 has made region free (action replay etc) impossible without some sort of hacking that would ban you from xbox live .... as per usual due to companies worries on pirates ... the legit people lives who just want to buy and play a game that they like is made into a nightmare.

Oh well..... off to look at prices of USA/Japanese Xbox 360s (the lengths we go to to play our fav Genre)
