Record of Agarest War is $60 for 360. This is the collector edition.
Collector's edition can be $10 to $40 more (some extreme case can be much worse). Given the bonus content, I think the value of extra good is about $15.
So, a normal edition of the game should sell for $45. However, the PS3 version is also the digital version. Digital version means:
- no physical disc (i.e. lower perceived value)
- cannot resell, no resale value
- No store discount. For retail games, you have multiple retailers to choose from and often you can find at least one that is discounting the game. For PSN, you only have 1 distributor. That distributor has a monopoly - which means game will be on sale less often.
Almost everyone will buy the physical version if digital version cost the same, because physical copy has a higher real and perceived value. The 360 version is a collector's edition, which means a normal edition (if exists) should cost less at around $45-50. The PS3 version should start there, then lower the price accordingly to compensate the lower value of the digital version.
Fortunately, it should be also cheaper for the publisher to distribute the game. I think a fairer price would be $30-35.
I don't think I am the only one thinking this is overpriced. Here is all the comment I saw on a popular gaming forum regarding the PS3 version:
- what a ripoff.
- I'm amused how they left that detail unmentioned for so long.
- Wow a savings of 15 dollars for a digital release with no tangible bonuses, lol. I had fear that that would do a $49.99 thing. Oh well, I guess Ill still be buying since Ive already put in the money into my PSN account X_x. Better have hundreds of hours of playtime
- I was willing to pay 29.99. Oh well, time to wait for a price drop.
- Wow, what a joke. I'm glad this game isn't the only reason I upgraded the hard drive on my PS3.
- I paid like $48 shipped from gamestop.com with their 25 percent off code for the 360 bundle. viva la digital revolution!!
- That price tag is a little too much, I was hoping for $30 or something.
