Anime News Network did an interview with Daisuke Ishiwatari and Toshimichi Mori with some interesting bits.

What are you two working on these days, after you get home?

TM: BlazBlue got much bigger than I expected. If I could, I'd like to do a bunch of spinoffs and work with BlazBlue more, but the problem is that if BlazBlue: Continuum Shift doesn't sell, I can't do anything before that. So if the fans would like to see more, please support the BlazBlue franchise. I'll be really grateful.

DI: I'm still working on several projects I can't talk about at the moment, but I can say that I plan on eventually concluding the Guilty Gear series, so please look forward to that.

The first part of the interview does the "Americans do this, while the Japanese do that!" routine, noting that the two men see FPSs being quite popular in the U.S., but it all came full circle in the end:

...Would you make an anime-style FPS?

DI: I can't tell you!

TM: This is my personal opinion, but I don't really think there's a boundary between fans of BlazBlue in America or Japan, I love all of them equally, so I will continue to do my best to release the best games possible.

Mr. Ishiwatari also seems to fancy Wesley Snipes' stunts as well as Metallica while Mr. Mori likes ...the Star Wars prequels(?!).
Never would have guessed.

Interesting. I won't mind if they conclude GG. It's just too bad the series can't compete with the other big fighting franchise.

An anime shooter would be pretty interesting, but I thought that the computer game Divi-Dead (or some spelling like that) was an anime shooter than never picked up. When I first heard about it, I didn't think it would work out to well. Then when I finally got interested in it, I can't find it anywhere...

well yeah, storyline-wise the Guilty Gear franchise is getting outta hand...like, what the hell was GGII Overture all about!?! That said, it would be good to see another GG...and by that I don't mean GG vs BB (sigh)

So I found out recently... Like I said, I was interested in it when it came out, and that was over a decade ago. Now that I look at it, I'm not really interested, but I did find a link that has the game playing for free on the internet. Too much damn reading my taste.

I have VC, but it is more of a strategy military game, not a FPS. I wish they would have brought out trophies for VC, because it rocked!

I would love to play a first person shooter set in a world that is like an anime. Get like a House of the Dead type of game, but everything is anime style sprites and when you shoot them gallons of blood just pour out of the wound... That would we awesome! Have some of the more anime style bad guys in it too...

For those who want to recommend Borderlands, I have it but it is not anime style. It is a good game though, but it makes me want to play Fallout 3, so I haven't finished it yet...

Generally the sniper guy. I like sniping dudes, although I'm not super good at it. I've played a little as the Berserker though, too. Punching the stuffing out of desert bandits is a good feeling.

I honestly don’t know – not because I can’t tell you, but because I really don’t know – but it will happen eventually!"

All I want to know is, will the OutRage make a comeback? It was barely mentioned in the previous games...I just wanna see what happens to the 8 sacred treasures.

Last time I remember hearing something about a new GG game, it was a quote from the BlazBlue x Guilty Gear concert where he said something similar to this. Seems to me like a new game is definitely coming at some point.

The last segment of the interview, and this is quite a revealing one.

When I think of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, both titles have a unique cast of characters. How do you come imagine designs for say Faust, Testament, or dare I say Bridget?

Daisuke Ishiwatari, creator of Guilty Gear: It’s a combination of things. Sol for example, is very much my kind of character, so he’s very close to my heart. But inspiration can come from anywhere – Venom came about when I was playing pool with friends and I thought a pool cue would make an interesting weapon. And Bridget?

Bridget was actually a very complicated character to create – she has double the frames of animation of all the other characters because of the Yo-Yo. Mori was actually working on this, and had a hard time getting the wrist action to work – to look natural. We all got Yo-Yos into the studio and spent a very long, very frustrating time trying to get the animation to work. I rejected many versions before the team got it right!

You know nya, either Daisuke may have called Bridget a girl in the interview or the one writing the article had a small typo. Tough call, nya. Either way, at first glance, the name Bridget, the clothes, anyone could mistake Bridget for a girl nya (and I'm pretty sure when we got our first copies of Guilty Gear X2, we all thought Bridget was a girl.)

Unrelated to the topic, but how would you decide the genders of Neko Arc and Neko Arc Chaos, nya? One's simply the other in shee'ps clothing nya.
