Couple of things regarding BB that are BAD + questions

1) Challenges. You don't see the full combo. It's kind of ridiculous how you can't clearly see what needs to be executed. I actually have to go to start menu to see the full combo, and even then I'm forced to scroll in some cases. Why couldn't you make the instructions more compact and fit them on the screen???
2) Where is the console exclusive character? I beat the arcade and the story mode with several characters, yet I haven't unlocked anything... Is she a future DLC that I need to pay for (Not talking about Makoto)? How do I access her?
3) WTF is with the game manual? It's only a few pages long and is in black&white. Not that important, yet disappointing at the same time.
4) In story mode, sometimes text and speech differ from each other and with Noel there is one case where one character is laying out a huge paragraph, yet there is no text whatsoever. Once again, not important, but gives the halfass done feeling.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

2) Define several characters... Did you get everyone to 100% or most of them AND beat the true ending? Cuz that's pretty much all you need to do to get Mu-12. And if you already did, check your character selections in all modes except story, she's right there in the middle under the timer.

Several is 2. Actually Ragna is at 67% and Noel is something similar, I figured me beating the story already counted. Do I need to go through all possible options (when I select action to be taken by my character) in story to get 100%?

Note that Aksys is not responsible for 1 and 2.

However, they are definitely responsible for 4, and possibly 3 also. 4 is a VERY legitimate concern*, though not my greatest one, which is something I intend to lodge a legitimate complaint about after I get the WHOLE story by translating certain offensive scenes in the Japanese language to see if it's as bad in JP as it is in ENG. I bet you know what I'm talking about.

*3 is also pretty legitimate.

I can't really comment on #1, since as Gaming King pointed out, Arc does the coding, not us, so that's not something we had any control over. So far as #2 goes, I believe you have to get 100% on every character's story mode in order to unlock Mu. 100% meaning you see every story path, although you are no longer required to loose a fight against every character to get 100%. The only fights you have to "loose" are ones that open up new story paths. I don't know which ones those are, but I'm sure there are a plethora of guides out on the internet that can walk you through the story mode if you get lost. #3, I don't know. For #4, without knowing what parts you're referring to, it's hard to give you a concrete answer. For lines where the text says "Azure Grimoire"/"BlazBlue" and the voice says something else, that often has to do with the fact that it flips back and forth in the Japanese script/VO as well, and we don't have the voice files to reference when we're translating. As far as "with Noel there is one case where one character is laying out a huge paragraph", I'm assuming you're referring to Tsubaki, and some long diatribe she has on ars magus or seithr or something--I don't recall what it is, exactly. My understanding for that section is that Tsubaki is supposed to be sort of droning on while Noel's attention wanders. It would be very difficult to graphically/textually represent Noel's thoughts "going over" what Tsubaki is saying, and so the decision was made to just cut the text that corresponds to Tsubaki's words. I could be mistaken, of course, but I believe it's the same in the Japanese version. Those two things are the only instances of text and voice being off that I can think of right off the bat. Do you happen to remember some of the others that you noticed?

While we are here, when I post my very serious thing about a certain translation issue involving me being genuinely offended (how much so depends on what I find in the direct translation from Japanese), do I just make a topic in the BlazBlue section, or is there also an e-mail address I should shoot a copy to?

**Mild Spoilers in this post from early in Ragna and Rachel's stories, maybe others.**
**Also, mature content dealing with bullying, discrimination, etc. and sexual themes.**

Well I know one changed bit, and the surrounding context is the question that remains.

The scene in question I have so far seen in both Ragna AND Rachel's Stories. It was bad enough the first time. Then they dragged RACHEL into it and made me hate Nago and Gii who I used to like and also made me pretty mad at Rachel in the gag reel, letting Ragna possibly surpass her among my favorite characters, but I forgive her since she didn't give Ragna -your mother is a classy lady- in the canon path and instead gave Bat 'n' Puss a good smash! And obviously it makes me pretty much hate Platinum for sharing a body with two jerks.

So, the short preliminary version of this complaint I have, before knowing anything else that may not add up, is that the scene depicts something I'm all too familiar with: "pedophile" used as a slur against an innocent man who's just nice. Made much worse by use of "pedo," THE most hate-filled form of the word, ALWAYS a slur. In Japanese, "rorikon" is the word used. The direct translation would be "lolicon," a much fairer word that hasn't been twisted into something so massively bigoted. It's much more matter-of-fact, just meaning "Lolita complex," as Rachel explains in her Japanese gag reel. Since Rachel explains the term in-game, almost all BlazBlue players will have some familiarity with anime/manga/Japan stuff and know the term anyway, and the fact that Deathsmiles says "lolis," a slightly related term, right on the box, I can't see people not understanding the word to be an issue, especially considering all the other hard words and specific mythological and cultural references even a dude with a crazy vocabulary like mine has to look up.

So for me to be fair about it I feel I should know what is said in the Japanese script before stating this complaint formally so I know how much of it I should pin on Arc System Works. What's listed above isn't going to change I'm sure, but yeah, want to get my facts completely straight.

To Belisarius, sorry this is so long, I know you're up crazy late, though not as late as me, so see you later, I have a killer headache and will probably end up sleeping through church, LOL. (Wait, that's not so funny, I shouldn't do that...)

And to anyone else reading this, please do remember that I am not a "pedophile." Just hate seeing people called it (especially myself!), and acknowledge that there are many fine paedosexual individuals out there--likely almost all of them--who do NOT hurt children, and that they should not be treated like -your mother is a classy lady- or forced into a silent and awkward existence. Also remember that if you DO hurt children, I will rip out your spine with a plastic spatula.

I hope I expressed myself reasonably well. I don't tend to be great at that...

You actually don't necessarily need 100% for every character to Unlock Mu. I managed to unlock her by beating true ending, getting 100% for Noel,Rachel,Arakune,Bang,Hakumen,Litchi,Tager and Lambda's stories. The rest I only unlocked around 70-88%.

You only need to beat the true ending to get Mu. To Unlock the true end you must recieve the proper endings for Ragna, Jin, Rachel, Hazama, Tsubaki, Noel, and I think Hakumen as well. That is really all you have to do. None of my characters have 100% story and I haven't done story mode for the characters not listed. Actually, majority of the ones I haven't done are still locked out to me. <.<

Be thankful that in the combos you can actually enter the start menu and see entire combo. Some of them are actually a bit long to the point its getting quite ridiculous. Also, the speech is different cause the voice actors was clearly given some leeway in way the characters speech. Not everyone speaks proper English in the game yet it shows in the text box so everyone will be able to understand if they have any sort of reading comprehension.

We (Aksys) localize and publish BlazBlue in North America. We don't have the people or facilities to actually develop games. BlazBlue is developed and programmed by Arc System Works in Japan, so they would be the people who "created" BlazBlue. We're just the people who translate it into English, dub it, and sell it in North America.

I didn't work on Ragna and Platinum/Sena/Luna, so I can only guess at why, exactly, it was translated that way, but this would be my guess:

Although, as you point out, "lolicon" is a term that would most likely be familiar to fans of anime, manga, and/or Japanese games, it is still a very "Japanese" term and concept, and to just leave it as-is seems like kind of lazy localization. There is no 1-to-1 equivilant term in English--as is the case with many words or language constructs in all other languages, not just Japanese. In this case, that is likely because American/Western society in general has made the sexualization of children, or people who look like children, much more of a taboo than it would appear to be in Japan. "Pedophile" is the closest term.

That being said, I don't think the change compromises the original intent of the scenes--at least the scene with Ranga and Platinum/Sena/Luna, which was the only one I could find last night. Platinum/Sena/Luna clearly has nothing but disgust for Ragna, and as such labeling him with such an offensive term, even if the meaning in marginally different from the original, seems perfectly in line with what the authors of the Japanese script intended.

I think the line was well placed and hilarious. Captured her anger while also continuing the trend of verbally abusing Ragna. If you're offended by that then you need to either lighten up or grow some thicker skin.

On the topic of incorrect text, I have 4 or so issues.

First off, Hazama's got some mistakes in Challenge Mode:

When you first start up the mode, you're asked to use Striking Coil. Hazama does not have a move called that; it's asking you to use Venom Sword (it is called this in the movelist, and it is what Hazama shouts when he uses it.)

Moving on to Serpent's Benediction (in the same mission,) Falling Fang and Rising Fang are mixed up. Falling Fang comes first, followed by Rising Fang, however in both the Challenge Mode labels and the movelist, their names are reversed. The audio's correct, though!

The other problem I've noticed lies in the Tutorial. The first window about Instant Barrier Blocking in the "About Defense Techniques" lesson (under Intermediate) doesn't match what Rachel's saying at all. The text is a semi-duplicate of the NEXT window's audio and text, so the next window repeats the text, but that window also adds a few words at the end that grammatically make no sense.

I have noticed many other typos and grammar errors, but I didn't note any down besides the Tutorial one.

I thought #3 was kind of a sham too.

Something I thought was kinda weird with the translations was the liberty taken to make Rachel's insults last an entire paragraph, when she obviously isn't that cruel in Japanese.

Something else I still don't understand, and since I'm new maybe someone asked a long time ago, but why on Earth was there a need to change the weapon type "Arch Enemy" to "Nox Nyctores?" One of the story modes was even called "Lost Arch Enemy." which I'd think would only be more confusing to the people not playing with Japanese voices/didn't understand any Japanese (although I thought the engrish sounded pretty obvious).

I also feel really bad for the people that don't know any Japanese whatsoever, thus making the secret audio tracks completely meaningless. Here's to hoping Aksys puts some translations up on the site sometime soon.

Oh yes, how could I forget? When viewing the arcade opening in the Gallery, the audio skips at 3 or 4 points during the video, and possibly the video lags for a split second when the skips occur too (not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me or not.) Is anybody else experiencing this problem? My disk looks fine and doesn't experience any other glitches besides that.

Ah I think I might have that problem, though more like the video or audio lags for a bit throughout the arcade op, about... 4 times? Thought it was something wrong with my 360 but then I tried other video's and it was fine. =/ The engrish translation was kinda bugging me a bit, I'm not fluent in japanese but I know enough to understand a few sentences through-out the game and some of those lines do not match at all. Like maybe at the last cutscene Where Hazama supposidely says "Shut up, you're not the boss of me!" which I'm pretty sure should've been "Shut up, Don't get in my way!" or something to that extent. =/

Heh, at least they got his favorite word (in regards to Tsubaki) right.

My only complaint is when you play Hakumen story. If you listen to the Japanese file, the part where Hakumen was talking to Tsubaki and telling her his story, at the very end of the scene where Hakumen leaves, he said "Thank you, Tsubaki" in Jin's voice. I thought that was very touching and perfect to the scene. But in the English voice, that line was voiced in normal Hakumen voice. Those who haven't listened to the Japanese side, won't notice the deep implication of when Jin's voice was recorded. Having said that, Aksys should have listened through all the Japanese voices so they won't miss out on really cool scene.
