id like to see some of the characters change their outfits based on what has happened in the plot. such as Jin no longer being apart of the NOL and Tsubaki change in disposition and Tsubaki joining the NOL, kinda. Noel could use a change in outfit as well. id almost call for ragna's outfit to change but he seems to be fine for now. what do others think

I think Ragna's fine staying the same. Jin and Noel should lose the NOL outfits. Jin can coast on his family attire, Noel could have an updated version of her outfit with the backless look. Hakumen and Arakune you can't change much. Hazama ala his insane Terumi true form, Tsubaki in her black outfit, Makoto probably is fine as is, Valk same (or alt in his 6 heroes form), Rachel same, Glorious Mechanical Golden Manbeast Golden Tager X, Carl the same more or less, Tao with face shown finally, Nu (if she is in the game as a player char) the same, Trinity the same (unless alt is her old true form)

To create an alternate costume for a sprite based game is essentially the same as creating a new character. They have to redraw everything.

While alternate costumes would be cool, it would seriously add to the development cycle, not to mention make the game code horrendeously complicated as the program would have to switch out entire art assets.
As for showing Taokaka's face, I vote an enthusiastic "please, dear god NO!" Not knowing what she looks like is part of her charm. Also, it makes writing her character much easier as I can take a number of liberties with her sanity without it conflicting with her appearance (what I like to call "The Platinum Conundrum").
I do agree with Saburou that the costumes should reflect the changes in the storyline, though. However, we'll all just have to wait and see.

I'm patient, I can wait for that.Truth.
Besides, what more can Arcsys do at this point? Make another BB where we have the same sprites and try to have everyone in Ikaruga? No. That should be an anime/novel/visual novel at best. Arcsys needs to spend time reinventing the wheel, along with new character designs, similar or new moves, a more advanced multiplayer, etc.
One more thing, seriously guys. You're asking the impossible. Every kaka has the same face. Although I want to see Tora's "face" more than I would Tao.
But on topic, Noel, Jin, and maybe Makoto should were something different entirely. They should be enemies of the NOL by now. Give Jin something "rogue." Have Noel wear something that Rachel would force her to wear (hehe). Tsubaki needs REAL valkyrie attire and should no longer be part of the Zero Squadron.

They have to redraw everything.its only them having to remake the sprites. they already have the algorithem for the character all they need to do is remap it with different actions. its better than them just reusing the current sprites and id be willing to wait for improvements like that. also dont you think that jin deserves it since hes not with the NOL anymore.

Ragna's concept art ninja outfit would be awesome *_____* but the brown haired ragna concept should just be thrown out the window...

I have to be honest, I don't playing fighting games for story and couldn't tell you what the NOL even is?

It's almost hilarious how much better Ragna looks without the jacket.
That said, alternate costumes in a 2D fighting game is kind of a pipe dream. Patience is one thing, but no company is going to redraw every single sprite for no reason other than to allow alternate costumes.

that is true but some of the costumes do need to change.

Redrawing entire costumes would probably take forever... I doubt we'll be seeing that anytime soon, KOF stuck to the same old sprites for years before they eventually moved to HD.
It's simple for 3D games, but I heard somewhere that it takes about 6 months to make a character from scratch in 2D sprites.

That's best case scenario. Just ask any MUGEN developer (It's why most of them stick to recolors.)

eh well they only need to redo a couple of characters for sure and they can have patches come out to have people buy the alternate costumes. so it doesnt have to be everyone gets a new outfit

I'd still be patient and wait some extra time if it meant updating sprites and what not.

yes it would be a cool addition

Whilst true alternate costumes is a ridiculous amount of work and will never happen (you'll sooner see an alternate version of the character like Ryu/Ken instead), one thing they CAN do is what KOF13 did:
By painting areas that look like they are the same colour, with a different palette index, you can change the look of the clothing via colour changes (usually with skin tones.)
So you can change short sleeves into long sleeves, reveal cleavage or cover it up, etc.
Doesnt work so well with BB since few characters wear t-shirts or skintight clothing, but you could probably still get some cool effects.Posted 2 years ago #
