They just posted a survey about otome games on the main page. What do you guys think?

Well, as a guy, I'd rather see a gal-game.

Interesting. Seems like Aksys might be branching out even more.
Can I not elicit even a sarcastic quip?Posted 1 year ago # -
Hmm, shouldn't they also include gal-games? I mean there ARE guys who would love dating sims targeted for them and only giving an option for a vn targeted for girls is a little... restricting? Anyways I'd love to see a gal-game brought over to NA.

Yeah, it's nice to see Aksys considering this direction, but I feel maybe-ish about it. I mean, I wouldn't have much trouble playing it (since I had no trouble playing FeMC in P3P) but at the same time, I still cant' relate to a female main character that well. I see this mostly when I try to read shoujou manga. I'll see the art style, like it, and then be turned off simply because it's aimed towards females - and therefore I can't get interested in it.
Don't get me wrong, I realize that that's the way it's supposed to be.

otome game elements seem to be popping up in more games these days, so the survey has me wondering. Persona 3 and 4 had the dating/team building element as part of the main story. Dragon Age also had it in there. It's getting more main stream, so I'm surprised that more people are not aware of it penetrating the market.

Yeah, I'm also seeing it as an opportunity to get more girls to play games.

I'll take my hat off to Aksys for trying to tap that market (no pun intended) and capitalize on it.

This post is a bit TL;DR. Sorry.
I didn't expect that Aksys Games would create a survey asking fans about their interest in otome games. So I have to thank the staff for creating it.
All of the titles mentioned in the survey were either created or released by Idea Factory. (Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idea_Factory ) Around summer 2008, a person from Idea Factory asked the My Neoromance message board about which of their games fans would want in English. So I think it's possible that this survey might be related...
That said, otome games are relevant to my interests. Just within the last few months, I enjoyed the fan translation of Tokimemo Girl's Side quite a bit, as well as the originally-in-English game RE: Alistair. And I own Princess Debut as well as Yo-Jin-Bo.
Aksys' survey mentioned the following untranslated games:
* Kakera (Hiiro no Kakera, correct?)
* Wand of Fortune (a relatively uncomplicated dating simulation for PSP and PS2 -- more info on Lijakaca's blog at http://lijaka.com/blog/2009/07/wand-of-fortune-first-playthrough )
* Will o'Wisp and Hakuouki (which I think are two visual novels, both for DS, PS2, and PSP)
* Death Connection (I think it's also a visual novel, PS2 only)I don't think there's much market for PS2 games in English, aside from maybe a movie tie-in game or two. And while the DS has had a lot of "not for traditional fanboys" games and software, the system's lifespan is fading fast, and DS piracy is notorious. And I've heard it said that it's very rare that a non-mainstream game for the PSP sells at all in UMD format. ...But at least PSP games can be sold on the Playstation Store, which means that unsold games wouldn't linger on shelves.
If any of the games mentioned in the survey might be worthy of a professional translation, then I'd probably say Wand of Fortune is a good bet. While it's not a complex dating simulation, it has more gameplay elements than many visual novels. The PS2 edition might not succeed in stores (but maybe through online retailers). I figure that if Sony would consider it a game, then it might be a candidate for the Playstation Store.

I think it'd be best to localize gal-games instead of Otome games, don't get me wrong here, I have nothing against otome games. But it's just that there are already quite a few released here in NA and I don't doubt the fact that more will follow suit but how many gal-games are released here? None. Zip. Nada. It'd also be best to do a survey with a list of some gal-games that might earn some interest like Chaos; Head Noah or Steins Gate and many more.

But, strictly for PC (actually, there are a couple -esque games on XBL - you might want to look that up).
I'd want to see Chaos; Head and the like released, too, but getting a grip on otome games could prove successful, as well. Maybe even lead into other games in the same vain being released here.Or, you could always look into developers making more Brooktown High:

An otome game (?????, otome g?mu, lit. Maiden Game?) is a video game that is targeted towards a female market, where one of the main goals, besides the plot goal, is to develop a romantic relationship between the female player character and one of several male characters. This genre is most established in Japan. The label includes both visual novels and simulation games. As of 2007, the most representative otome game title available in English is Hirameki's Yo-Jin-Bo personal computer game series. This genre is also referred to as GxB games by Western fans (Girl player and Boy characters).,..copied

I don't feel any interest in Otome Games. The reason is simple. I'm male. I would, however, like to see more of them this side of the pond so female gamers get an increase in content aimed at them.
I know both women and girls that feel sort of neglected in a market full to bursting with testosterone and the ever popular Litchi proportioned characters.
Variety is almost always good.
Main: Lambda-11 (BBCS), Urs, Freed (BF) and Petra (AH3)
Sub: Noel, Mu-12, Tsubaki, Taokaka and Makoto (BBCS), Olivia and Odille (BF), Akane (AH3)

While I too, would rather get the opposite, I am in full support of this, if they do it, to the point I might actually buy whatever they put out. Otome, if they did it, would be a step in the direction I want. If they hit off well, they COULD look into the harem games for guys thereafter. I am sure some Otome games ARE good too, but yeah, Aksys, please just bring over Clannad and White Album. =/
White Album for the US!Posted 1 year ago # -
I'm female...I have no interest in otome games at all. The whole visual novel thing bores me.
I rather be playing shooters so I hope Aksys will continue bringing more of Cave's shoot'em'ups.
Aksys, please bring Students of The Round for the XBox360 and Elminage 3 for the PSP here. First person dungeon crawling deserves a chance.Posted 1 year ago # -

^ THIS.
The only games in North America that are made specifically for a female audience are utter garbage like Barbie Horse Adventures or that -your mother is a classy lady- Ubisoft releases.
With a few exceptions (thanks Bioware!), all my life I've been playing games with a male player character. I've accepted that, because a good game is a good game. But ask some guys about the mere possibility of releasing a game for girls, and the reaction is "How can you possibly release a game not aimed at me!?"
It makes me wonder why Aksys is running the survey on their own website, since the target audience for these types of games is probably not going to be found here.

Where'd you think the target audience is then?
