It was like a breath of fresh air when I was reading Record of Agarest War. Something that felt like they cared about their job and putting out a damn fine translation. Atlus has also gone to lengths to make their games easier to understand but retain a sense of maturity to their dialogue. If it wasn't for that I may not have ever sat through Nocturne (but I swear if I see another Momonofu say "Yo dawg," I'm killing it!) or enjoyed both Digital Devil Saga games. Aksys and Atlus are pretty much the only two companies that I have any faith left in for quality RPG translations at this point as everything else felt like it was half-assed or too childish to get into.

Part of the reason for NISA's problems is the fact that they keep blowing their budget on the Japanese audio...

I don't see how thats part of NISA's problem when the Japanese audio is already there before translation. Its not like they had to redo it or anything, and everyone knows they aren't keeping the original japanese text in there as well for the game. If anything, I believe its the fact they waste their time on the English Audio cause its one thing to include the Full Japanese track but another to only voice main story parts in English. Its ridiculous that the only way to get full dialog is off of the track they didn't put any work in.

They have to pay the Japanese VA's again if they put their voices in a different release.

Since when did NISA's typos, grammatical errors, and excessive translation liberties in their English script/text have anything to do with the fact that they include Japanese voiceover options in their games?

Script QA and editing takes time and thus money that they spent on relicensing the JP VA?

Dude, you're assuming that the script editors are also responsible for negotiating and signing the audio portion of the licensing contracts, which is bogus. Both activities can be done at the same time by different staff members.

It's not just about a lack of money, it's that their editing/translation staff have been stretched to their limits. The main reason why NISA's editors/translators have been having problems with their script quality (at least on the typos/grammar errors) is because they're often responsible for doing the localization work for multiple games at the same time. They only have around five or so guys working there--It's very difficult to prioritize the five editors/translators' efforts, ensure all translations are up to standard, and meet deadlines when you've got five to six text-heavy titles that have to be released every year. The reason why Ar Tonelico 2's translation was so poor was because the translation/editing staff were also heavily preoccupied with translating/editing Disgaea 3's script at the same time, and they had to prioritize it over AT2.

Seriously, can you imagine translating a game with 30000-50000 lines of text, much less two or three of them at the same time?

>.> You really don't wanna know how I think of NISA fans. I can't just shake the feeling that there's something wrong with the sexualization of some of the characters (Yes the boob jokes are overdone) or the fact that the games they translate are permeated by moe (despite given age at times) characters. Odds are its a combination of the two and I just can't take it anymore like I could when I was a teen.

And if they stopped blowing money away to do the English dubbing, they'd have even more money to hire additional translators, especially considering how they've been recently cutting on the amount of English voice-acting. What's more, they could just resort to releasing titles as download-only (since Sony won't approve disc-based sub-only games) and save even more money on printing disc copies.

The door swings both ways, pal. Don't use their translation problems as a means of channeling your dislike for subs/sub-fans if you don't even have access to their balance sheets.

Well, if you don't think it makes the game seem unnecessarily more immature, or make us think we can't enjoy the script for what it is instead of having nothing but boob-jokes in our faces, then you're the ones in the wrong. If I wanted boob-jokes, there are plenty of perfectly good games they could release that already have a great deal sexual innuendo in them--You know, games like Nuga-Cel, Criminal Girls, Dream C Club, or Doki Doki Majo Shinpan. If they have no problems adding boob jokes where it isn't due, what's stopping them from going all out by releasing a game that's practically built on boob-jokes from the ground-up? In fact, I'd love for them to release Criminal Girls and Dream C Club myself.

Besides, you haven't seen Ar Tonelico 2's script, haven't you?

The concept of Criminal Girls is exactly whats wrong with things today. I don't see how that game even left the discussion room but alas, it is Japan. They always have to do things their own way and have to deal with their own developers saying that there's something wrong with their own industry. :l

No, that's what makes Japanese games/anime/manga/pop culture so appealing--They have their own ways of doing things and aren't bound by what we percieve to be right/wrong. If they did everything the westerners did, it wouldn't be anywhere near as interesting, now would it?

thats why they dont release patches to change language
-just got today BBCS and i'm pissed since it doesn't have any DLC character , dont even know what was the -your mother is a classy lady- point of delaying the game 7 months (and no noel figurine despite buying the LE and a -your mother is a classy lady- fan made art blu-ray cover with another -your mother is a classy lady- fan-art made artbook)

Ah a classic Classy Lady post, don't you love overreaction? and yes just because a game got delayed it suddenly means you deserve special features. It sucks that you got the game so late, but it's pretty unreasonable to expect something big like all the DLC characters (only two of which have been officially released) to be on the disk just because your upset.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. If you mean either of the BlazBlue games, our releases were either at the same time, or very close to, the Japanese ones. The European versions were delayed, but we didn't publish those—that was a company called Zen United.

If you're talking about Valkenhayn, I wouldn't really call a DLC character a "game", but his delay was due to an issues involving Microsoft's DLC submission servers.
