Just found this. I really hope Aksys decides to pick this one up. It certainly has the potential to be a suprise hit and I'm sure that Aksys would do a good job with it.

    Fingers crossed...

That certainly is a nice poster. Also, getting rated Cero D usually means the M rating for the US, yes? If so, it should be interesting if localized. All the more reason to pay attention to how 999 does, when it gets released.

I played the demo for 999 and I actually enjoyed the gameplay of click and find with the VN gameplay too. If I had a DS I'd get it, but unfortunately all I have is PSP :(

Yeah, for Battler they were going for the obvious over 9000 DBZ Goku joke, thus making him into Super Saiyan Battler ;)

    Edit: Also, pre-order goodies :D

The Mangagamer release lacked certain music due to copyright, but you can find a patch to fix it up at the Tweaking Higurashi wiki. It also cut out various sound effects, such as scare chords. I don't know about any TIPS missing, as there were TIPS present when I played. A minigame is gone though, due to it being too difficult to code on their new engine and because it contained a Touhou, IIRC. I don't remember whether the Higurashi version of a Tea Party was removed. It might have been.

Chiru is not packaged with this release. This release is for the 'question' arcs, EP1-4. The 'core' arcs, EP5-8, will be made into another release, depending on how well this one is received.

Thank you and thank everyone who informed me so politely. If it really will be okay to play this before Higurashi, then I will support this 100%. Hopefully, Chiru, Higurashi and Kai (that is the "answer arc" of Higurashi, yes?) will get similar treatment, as well as get professional translations and releases.

It is fine to play this before Higurashi. There are a few references, and there will undoubtedly be spoilers on Umineko message boards, but there's no reason to play Higurashi before Umineko.

Kai is the answer arc set of Higurashi.

Kai and Higurashi have been translated by Mangagamer, and are unlikely to be released by anyone else at this stage. I recommend playing through them anyway, even if you do put a patch or two in place first.

You know, I'm perfectly fine with a digital release of this game if you cant' do a physical release. Just saying. As long as content isn't cut out.

Just curious, in the case that any of you know the Mangagamer guys - have they even tried to get digital distro going on one of the major PC storefronts?

Getting on Steam would be a huge coup for them, but Valve may not be interested.

Impulse will take just about anything though, possibly excepting titles with or that would earn an AO rating. Amazon would be another good bet for them.

I recall someone at MG (either a translator or other) mentioned about Steam and it basically went 'if the demand is high and met, then it would be all the more possible'. I really don't know the demographic of the Steam's audience, but then, I don't think many have even tried to push any sort of a particular title towards Steam.

I think Steam would be hard for them to get hosted on, personally - based on what I know of Valve's process. Just used it as an example, because everyone knows what Steam is by now. Gamersgate and Impulse have a lot less name recognition.

But still, I have seen quite a few references to MG on this and other forums, but never seen their games for sale anywhere. Just kind of wondered.

After googling their site, I see that they sell direct - but they only offer at Euro exchange rate, which is hideous right now for those of us in the USA. /facepalm

Just curious, because it just seems so odd. Once I learned Higurashi had an official english translation, I went to go buy it - and could not find anywhere that sold it. Until I googled Mangagamers, and found their main site and insane USD pricing. ( and insane DRM )

But anyhow, didnt mean to get so far off topic.
