Is there anywhere to watch the panel live? I found the live blog, but that's about it.
And yeah, I know D= I'm kinda hoping they'll surprise everyone with it at the end or something >< I should stop hoping, it leads to sadness lol

They did say they are not against bringing visual novels to consoles, though! Just don't give up guys! We can do this! Let's buy Fate/Extra and the otome game they announced to show our support or something! All while asking for Umineko nonstop!

Have you ever thought of organizing everyone here as well as at NISA, Atlus, GameFaqs, GameSpot, IGN, MyAnimeList, and AnimeNewsNetwork to spam their FaceBook page until they come out with an official response? And even then don't stop. Operation Rainfall has taken a similar approach, and while their efforts have come short (for now), Nintendo has at least acknowledged the concern. I'd help, but I want to finish watching the series first so I at least have an idea of what I'm talking about.

Problem is, not a lot of people seem to be co-operating.
You should read the PC Visual Novels, not watch the anime. The anime is a terrible representation of the Visual Novels.
And yes, we have thought about doing that type of thing. If you read the beginnings of this movement, we had quite a many goals. We made facebook pages, we made a website, we made these threads, we made fliers and planned to spread them about at game and anime conventions. But then when NISA pretty much said "no" and we realized Aksys was our only hope, most people stopped believing we even had a chance of getting it so pretty much all potential for a movement like that went out the window.
Those three Nintendo RPGs are lucky to have a group of people who won't give up. We, on the other hand, despite wanting this Visual Novel brought to America (and many other Visual Novels, of course), seemed to be comprised of people who were all talk. Despite a select few, of course, who never stopped posting in this thread.
Personally, I think the fact that Aksys mentioned they will consider other Visual Novels, even console ones, a very very very good step in the right direction. But I'm still afraid to push for a response from them on this game. Because if they say "no" or "it'd be too much work" or "it's too much of a gamble", like NISA did, then I fear all potential for us to actually become an organized fan-group and support this localization will die out completely.
One denial shattered us. Aksys is our only hope, really. A denial from them would end us completely. Granted, of course, they would probably just say "we don't have any plans" rather than outright deny it. Because at least Aksys is considering Visual Novels. Whereas NISA wants to play it safe so much they won't even localize PSP games anymore.
Aksys became my favorite publisher today. But even I won't hold my breath for this particular miracle.
Wow, thanks for taking the time to explain all that to me. I'm still going to watch the series because I can't lay down the money for the visual novels just yet. And I heard about all the negative feedback already. Don't worry, I'm not going to judge the novels or series based on the anime. I'd definitely like to get involved in the movement.
Hopefully, if I get my way, I'll use my new writing position to do some editorials on the subject and see if I can get some other sites on board. But you're going to need a name and a face. Part of the reason why Operation Rainfall did as well as it did was because of their connections with some well known forums, and, of course, their blog site (http://oprainfall.blogspot.com/). If you guys are willing, I'll give you a platform to speak on and see if I can renew some interest.
Even if Aksys says no, there's no reason to stop. If you guys want this badly enough, they'll listen.
EDIT: By the way, I didn't see the website listed in the OP. Could you link me to it if it's still up? I'd be very interested in seeing what you've done so far.
Well you can get the first Episode for free on the translators websites, it's even endorsed by the creator himself! 07th Expansion usually allows the free download of the first episode of their series as a kinda "Demo" of what to expect. The "Demo" is the entire first Episode, it's the weakest one of the series but it's still good.
The anime is..well a VERY bad representation of the novels, honestly theirs little positive I can say about it. A lot of people accuse me and other fans of just hating it because it isn't the VN which simply isn't true, we tried to give it a chance and even said positive things about it at first. After a certain point though it became clear the studio had no idea WHAT they were doing and we just lost all hope.

I got my start in the When They Cry series WITH the Umineko anime. Since then I've watched the Higurashi anime, read all the Higurashi novels, and all of what's been translated of Umineko. As someone who started with a pure view on the anime, it's interesting IF you haven't read the novels. Once you read the novels though, the anime just really seems like an awful sham. The Higurashi anime did pretty good though, better than Umineko's at least.
Anyways, Neo, I agree with Endless that you should check out the free demo of the first episode. I agree it's probably the slowest of all the entries, but once you get to the end, you'll never want to quit reading the series.
Higurashi at least while being a terrible adaptation, is still entertaining. Umineko on the other hand is both very uninteresting and a terrible adaptation.
*pokes head in* I actually really enjoyed the anime. Haven't seen Higurashi at all (creepy girls do not draw me in to watch it) and have no real plans to read the novels for Umineko. Still interested in the game though. *ninjas out*
Your making a huge mistake, and have completely misjudged Higurashi. It's a mystery series, not about "creepy girls", and the anime pretty much destroys the story and the character development. The Umineko Anime is even worse since it doesn't even have character development.
The Novels really MUST be read to get the best enjoyment out of the series, the music in the novels combined with the story really create the best mood and feelings.
Sorry. Just not interested in Higurashi at all, nor reading the novels. I liked the Umineko anime because it was a good mystery and kept me guessing throughout. I'm pretty happy with that. If the game gives me more, even better, but I'm not a purist or a completionist. To each their own. I'm supporting everyone else's desire for the game to be localized BECAUSE OF the anime, so try not to diss it too hard.
But Higurashi is also a mystery series, and it's more of a Mystery (in a sense) then Umineko was. Your missing out on a great story and characters, Umineko is just like Higurashi so I don't understand how you can be interested in one but not the other.
There's even a free "demo" of Higurashi (the entire first Episode) that you can play to check it out. I have to again STRONGLY suggest you give it a chance since you are missing out. Also the Umineko anime will NEVER be finished any time soon, the sales for it where HORRIBLE so a Season 2 won't be happening anytime soon so they only way to see the complete storyline is via the novels.
This isn't about being a completionist, the anime butchers the storyline. Character development is removed, backstory is cut out, the music is poor and used improperly and the relationship between Beatrice and Battler is just...wrong.

But Higurashi is a mystery as well. It's set up it is slightly different, but in the end the point is to try to figure out the truth. And while the anime of Umineko is one hell of an attention grabber, that's all it is. It has no real value to it, as tons of necessary info (mostly those involving different characters) is left out, making the various mysteries and theories in it pretty much impossible to solve.
I just can't really understand people who will watch a watered down version of something, love it, and then not take the time to at least TRY the original version. I think we all also understand the importance the anime has in grabbing fans Unfortunately, however, many are too lazy or uninterested to bother with the full story, and that is what really bothers most of us. The first novel is completely free, and people STILL refuse to bother with it, and it just baffles me.
Anyways, just a rant in general about a large portion of the When They Cry fans.
Come on Aksys, do this game. I'm at the point where I really don't care if it's DD, just translate it.

You can say that again, I understand that while there still terrible, the anime adaptations can be used to grab in new fans (I mean hell let's be honest here, the Higurashi anime was the starting point for pretty much all us Western fans). That I get, but it's just the absolute refusal to try out the source material that boggles our minds.
They can really re-introduce you to the series all over again and open up so many new views on the events and the characters. I mean lord knows how many people have complained about how the Kai part of the Higurashi anime was completely different then the first half of the series simply because of the terrible adaptation of the first half. DEEN cut down on the mystery and character part of the story in favor of trying to increase the horror aspect which unfortunately gave the wrong impression of the series.
If you ever want the "Complete" story you pretty much HAVE to read them anyway, the anime adaptations simply leave out far to many important details. Also like I mentioned before, the Umineko anime bombed HARD in Japan, it was a complete failure so the chances of Chiru being adapted are slim to none.

The game IS the novel. It's a Visual Novel. The only difference between the PC and PS3 versions are better art and voice acting. And you'll never get to finish Umineko with the DEEN fail anime, they aren't doing the second half. And just like with Umineko, DEEN failed with the Higurashi anime. The Visual Novels were much better. Trust me, there is more to Higurashi than "creepy girls", that's just something DEEN decided to play up and make a big deal for the anime.
That being said, Umineko is way way way better than Higurashi, and while they are both mysteries, Umineko is a completely different KIND of mystery. So not everybody who likes Umineko will like Higurashi, so you having your opinion is fine. But you should at least look into what they are actually like more before writing them off.
This would be amazing if it was localized! It could become a sleeper hit like 999, which is very probable! AKSYS LISTEN TO OUR DESPERATION
To All Present Umineko Fans:
Remember me? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't. I'm back to help support the localization of Umineko no Naku Koro ni. My long disappearance was a mix of work, school, and constant family issues, but I'm back now. Thank you all so much for sticking with this so far. All of you are amazing for having such hope & determination. I only hope that I too can help this localization movement charge forward even just a little.
TO AKSYS GAMES:
Pleeeeease, localize this! You don't have much to lose by translating and releasing this game over the PSN; Work with WitchHunt on the translation, and keep the Japanese audio like you did for Agarest War! I always prefer a disk copy, but at this point I think even getting it over the PSN would be a dream come true.
Thanks. ;D
