Xenosaga I&II localization?

I would flat out love it if Aksys decided to give the localization of Xenosaga I&II a shot. I love the PS2 series to death, and when I found out that the conversion of the first two episodes to the DS pretty much bridged the gaps in the story that Episode II left, I really wanted it localized. Sadly, it's been left in the ether of games that should be localized for some time now. Aksys seems like the company that likes to take on more unconventional ideas and risks, and this would definitely be the latter.

If anyone else wants this game, please comment! I don't have the numbers or support that the Umineko people seem to have, but I would still very much like to see this game finally come over here. Hopefully I can find some support here.

This is complicated because I have a very odd relationship with the Xeno franchise. I'm currently playing Xenogears which is OK it has it moments. The first Xenosaga I actually like and enjoyed. Xenosaga II was a huge disappointment to me. Despite my issues with the part II I decided that I may as well go on and get three since people were saying that it's a lot better then two. If the battle system is anything like I or III than I'm in. :)

From what I've seen it, does have a similar battle system. I understand your relationship, because I feel very much the same about Xenosaga in general. Episode II simply isn't good, and this DS game was supposed to fix that.

It looks good but it still looks a bit too complicated. The problem that I've always had with Xeno games is that the battle system is far too needlessly overcomplicated. What's wrong with:

Attack
Magic
Skill

etc...

Or even going through a little wheel or something like you do in Persona 3 and 4. Considering that I'm spending most of time in combat I want to be comfortable while I'm in battle. Everything else is nice though. The presentation in Xeno games has always been top notch.

Because Namco Bandai has it's grips on the Xeno franchise I don't think it's going to happen. However I would for it to.

Xenosaga was the game that made me want a PS2. I still remember seeing the first images of Kos-Mos and being like "I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THAT!!!".

Oh yeah that's right! I forgot Namco had the rights to that game. Sigh...If that's the case I don't think it really matters you know how they are. :X They hate us.

I've actually found the button presses to be a bit more direct, actually. Press a button and you start a direct attack, press another to do an ether/air attack. Do up to two, or save up and do an advanced attack and other such combos. Pressing the fourth button just brings up the actual menu. I like it better than the vanilla "Attack, Magic, etc". Because it gives more options.

Plus, it made the boss battles really original, which was pretty cool.

That's true but I don't know it just feels too vexing at times.

Namco may hold the license, but the game's been out for a while. I doubt Namco's going to be as stingy with this as something like Tales or Super Robot Wars. I always assumed Nintendo owned the Xenosaga IP anyway after they bought the studio.

Tales of Destiny Director's Cut, Tales of Destiny 2, Tales of Rebirth etc have been out for a while too and Namco has pretty much shafted us on both them. I think just about everybody has a general dislike for Namco at this point. They really seem to hate us for some reason. >_>

True, but Tales was still getting localized two years ago, compared to four. The game's been out for five years, actually. I kinda doubt they'd care about it much, since it seems to be a franchise they have no intention of making new games for. And really, I've only heard of Namco's dealings with Tales and Super Robot Wars. Nothing else. Care to enlighten me?

Can't say that I know much more than how they've been with Tales games.

I'm an enormous Xeno fan myself, but unfortunately the company that owns that franchise among others (i.e. Tales) normally won't let other companies touch their IPs.

I really do think that this is something worth asking Namco though. Tales and Super Robot Wars, they're active franchises with releases still going on today. They're hot properties, in a sense. Xenosaga isn't, really. I&II is in a unique position because, despite being a bit old, it is still on a current gen system that could use some more RPGs these days. The franchise has been dormant for some time.

But, then people start to get weary about the stigma Namco has regarding those other games. I just have a feeling that Namco wouldn't be has hard up with this, even if that's just fan bias speaking. Regardless, it's worth a try.

EDIT: Oh, that's it then...it's horribly disappointing to say the least.

You could try emailing Namco about it maybe?

I would argue that the usual doesn't mean it's the absolute, especially considering Atlus and Super Robot Wars. However, I think that you, Akselziys, as a staff member at Aksys, would probably know more than I do. You probably know the likely predetermined answer. I would love for you guys to try anyway, but...

And come on, if Aksys wouldn't localize it, why would Namco?

EDIT: I just wish fans of Namco games were as receptive as visual novel fans are and wouldn't give things up so easily. But I suppose that's life. *sigh*

Haha, I would love to do it if we had the chance (Xeno is one of my favorite franchises), but unfortunately it's pretty untouchable.

SRWOG Saga Endless Frontier as well as SRW 1 & 2 were able to be acquired thanks to them being Banpresto titles, which was a subsidiary of Namco Bandai at the time (has since been absorbed by them).

Though, as a fan, I hope Endless Frontier Exceed is picked up for localization by ATLUS USA :) Because I loved Endless Frontier and I also love Monolithsoft ;)
