Is the combat really that good or do you have to be a fan of the series to like it? The combat system footage on youtube doesnt look that interesting to me.

That depends on your tastes. I have played the Japanese release and found the combat to be interesting. It's a turn based combat system that follows the rock/paper/scissors convention. There are other things, but I can't quite remember what. I do remember you get to use items.
Someone who has the game already could give you a more detailed explanation, but for me the combat system was a very interesting take on the typical turn based format. I have to add that I've played turn based RPGs since I was a child, so I'm a bit bored of them. Yet, Fate/Extra managed to be fresh for me not only in its combat system, but in other aspects as well.
It doesn't matter if you are a fan of the franchise or not. Give the game an opportunity. Who knows? It could give you a pleasant surprise. Keep in mind that watching a video and actually interacting with the game are two different things.
Main: Lambda-11 (BBCS), Urs, Freed (BF) and Petra (AH3)
Sub: Noel, Mu-12, Tsubaki, Taokaka and Makoto (BBCS), Olivia and Odille (BF), Akane (AH3)

Well like I mentioned at the start of the topic, Fate/EXTRA requires next to no knowledge of the Nasuverse stuff to be able to enjoy it. It makes for a nice stepping stone into the franchise for new people as well.

As long as they have an English dub for the game I'll be happy

No dub means no voices, or are they just going to leave the Japanese audio and translate everything else. I would like it if they would dub the in battle dialogue so I could understand them. They're going to leave in the Japanese audio in, don't be silly. The text will be translated to English.
I doubt the in-battle dialogue will be translated at all. Dubbing it in English would just feel weird when the rest of the game is in Japanese (consistency is key) and adding subtitles would clutter the screen.

I didn't mean that one part would be in voiced Japanese and the other voiced in English. I wanted to know if they were going to translate all of the text and just leave us with Japanese audio(Like if you were playing a game and had the option of switching the language from English to Japanese, everything would still be subtitled in English but the audio would be in Japanese).
To put it simply, I want to know if the game will be voiced in English or not.

The game will contain only the original Japanese audio. None of the audio will be removed or replaced. All the Japanese text will be translated into English.Data, data, data. I cannot make bricks without clay.
Alles andere ist käse.

Oh, its an rpg. I wasn't really interested in the fighting game, but I might pick this up eventually.

I actually hated the fighting game... way too steep of a learning curve. If you're talking about the ps2 and arcade version then I can definitely agree its one of the harder fighters. The psp version on the other I find extremely simple and fun outside of characters like Caster. Back on topic does anyone know when well get some more info cause I haven't even heard of a tentative release window.

It seems to me like Aksys is going to focus on Hakuoki first, and then start hyping Fate/Extra. Makes sense, too. I imagine they'll both be out by year's end.

Pretty sure Fate/Extra is slated for a late Fall release.

I personally can't wait to hear more about what is going to be in the limited edition.
