I just bought the game a few days ago and am wondering how long it is?
Is it really around 100 hours for the story alone?
How long is Agarest War?

5 Generations, plus endgame. Takes as long as it does for you go through each of those settings. Generally speaking, at least 60 hours + however long you decide to throw yourself at the grind pre-endgame.

89 hours for me.

The game doesn't have an in-game clock. 100 hours sounds right.
I'm of the firm opinion that video games should be shorter. Anything over 30 hours is too long for most games. Dragging a game out longer with filler doesn't make it better. Short is sweet. Just wanted to go on a mini-rant.

I got through First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and True Ending in about 100 hours (maybe even more, and I didn't grind a lot).

See, the problem with this is that you can achieve at least 40 (60 in this one) regularly in RPGs without filler. >.> There really aren't "Side Quest" in Agarest either which is even more daunting maybe to your average RPG goer thinking thats just outside of the main game.

I love long video games. Gives a lot of time to character/plot development. I think anything under 30 is usually too short :p

I treat the game like 5 separate games in a series.
Each one is full of interesting characters and wraps up nicely.
I didn't feel it did anything to artificially extend the length of the game.Posted 11 months ago # -

Sorry but if I beet a game within a week I consider it a shitty game.
Dont get me wrong some games drag out needlessly but honestly I like my moneys worth in a game and I work two jobs so if I can beet it within 7 days I wouldnt by another game like it unless by some means I was somehow smitten with the thing, wich I would find doubtfull.
I rather have a game I want to return to play and in all honesty every game ive ever beaten befor that seven day mark, ive never went back to and thusly dont perchase that form of game ever again.Posted 11 months ago # -
I'm in no hurry to finish it. I AM getting a little tired of the grinding, but if you don't, you'll wish you had. Oh, and be SURE to get at least SOME of the DLC out there. Believe me, it will make the chore a lot easier. Personally, the only thing I DIDN'T like about this game is that the enemies range in difficulty so much. Trying to beat the first generation game is harder than nails because of the monsters' rapid and should I say ever changing difficulty. It's very uneven at first. One minute, you'll have a weak creature, and then in the next, that same creature is intensified by quite a LARGE margin, making it really difficult to outsmart it. They'll either do THAT, or they'll just outnumber you and poke you to death. ~_~ They've done that to me, so beware!

Most of those games however that do that are mostly either shooters or some, but fortunately not all, RPG's. I HATE playing $60 for games that don't even last 5 hours. I mean really, what's the point in it?
That's why I like putting big spaces in when I want to finish games. Although, I've found that if I do that for too long, I'll forget what it was that I was trying to do. =P
But that's also why I can't stand MOST Action RPG's... they try to end them WAY too quickly. Most of them are alright, but when you spend so much time building up and building up your strength, they almost always cheapen the victory for you.

If I were you, I'd just play it on easy.
It gets nearly impossible really quickly.Posted 11 months ago # -

It gets nearly impossible really quickly.not really you can play it on hard on first run just don't go for the true end on first run or you just basically F'd yourself in doing that. I went for the normal then dark ending first since your most of the things you have carry over then went for the true end. The REAL hard thing is getting all the trophies It took me awhile to do that and when I say awhile I mean AWHILE.

Once I've had my fill, I'm done. I don't want to sit there and let it continue dragging.
Here, let me give you an example. When you go to a restaurant, do you want 10 cuts of steak for $10, or would you rather have just 2? The 10 is a better value, but 2 is the right amount that will fill you up. You can take the extra 8 pieces home and eat them later, but do you really want to be eating steak for the next 4 days? I feel that it's the same with video games. A game that knows how to control its portions and give you the exact right amount is better than a game that goes "okay, let's just leave them with 100 hours of gameplay so that there's enough content".
A good game knows how to be fun, but it also knows when to stop. I wish more games knew when to stop.
Personally, I feel that RPGs should stop at 30 hours. Beyond that, it's just pointless grinding and tedium. One of my favorite action games this generation, Bayonetta, clocked in at around 8 hours, yet it was amazing. Furthermore, nobody complained about the length. Why? Because it knew when to stop, but also because you can come back for seconds (multiple playthroughs) instead of one giant 100 hour main course.
I've only completed around 45% of the games in my library. I don't want a single one to just drag, I want each one to be fun for the right amount of time and then I want to move on.

rpgs must be at least 40 hours, or else ?_? Nice resturant example, but too bad you can't save your progress and come back to it later. hehehe. And with a progressing rpg, it'd be more like 10 different meals from the same restaurant than 10 of the same.
edit: woah, this forum murdered my angry emoticon. lol

Actually, you can "save your progress and come back later" with food. It's called the refrigerator.
I've never played an RPG that varied from beginning to end so much that you could call it 10 different meals. It's more like 10 of the same meal. You get sick of it after a while.
Seriously, RPGs these days are way too long. Action games shouldn't take more than 10 hours to beat, and RPGs shoudl be beatable in 30. 20 is ideal.
