with the whole Namco Bandai thing going on...

With these changes going on, I wonder if there is a possibility of them letting go on licenses, such as TALES... Well, this is my hope at least through this whole disaster. There's alot of titles there I (and many others) wish to enjoy and purchause.

Anyhow, I was wondering if for ANY given reason Namco Bandai let go of some titles, having it go to other localizers, if Aksys would want to get their hands on them? The other JRPG localizers seem to have alot going on right now, but I wonder if you guys would be up to it, if at all possible.

Yes.

I'm not sure how these deals would go about. I would think that they would resort to selling the licenses to their games if they were deep in the red and try to recoup some costs, but then maybe the cost wouldn't factor in the localization department. Then again, it looks like it's the U.S. branch that is feeling the burn (for now). I don't know, but my hats off to folks who lost their jobs.

I can't say this impacts the release of seeing The Idolm@ster in the States one way or another anyway, though :(

I doubt we'll ever see anything like Idolm@ster or hatsu miku ever hit stateside, among other things. Bamco seem to be quite possessive of their IPs and the fact we managed to get SRW here is a miracle. Seems the only thing they really find worth releasing here are their games made from mainstream anime. I really don't know how theybgo about their decisions but they have burned people just about as Sega at this point. :l If only it was easier to get imports.

Obviously those two will never make it over here, they only have japanese songs so I can hardly see them being accepted over. Shame... But really, I hope they give licensing rights for the Tales series to someone else... I WANT Vesperia for PS3 and Graces F! Not more DBZ and Naruto games DX.

As someone pointed out earlier, Namco are very possessive of their IP... even if they are going through some sort of financial crisis, it would take a lot to get them to license Tales. Plus, though it may seem like Tales games are in high demand over here, games based on anime series like Naruto are almost certainly going to sell better; we're really a vocal minority. It's a shame though, because I've played a few of them and they're great.

Well, as for the PS2 releases, Action Replay discs bypass region encoding, so there is that option. And you can buy the games on Play-Asia. As for the handheld ones, they aren't region protected at all. So the only real issues are the NES, SNES, PS1, N64, GC (which was a remake anyway), and the single 360 SRW that has region encoding issues, and you can emulate the NES, SNES, and PS1 titles.

You want Tales, Namco wants money. Their wants > Their cares of you. Namco is a company gone to hell.... yet, they have some of the best Japanese Exclusive games. I hate it.

I heard people have went to them to ask for the Tales localization, and NB has been turning everyone down. Why? I dunno, but needless to say, they are certain 4 lettered D words that I hope whose US company dies just so their JP releases will be more "free for all" for companies to grab and localize without NB of America saying "lawl no"

But but... they aren't making any money :( I do NOT understand their executive decisions one little bit... I mean buy IP = spending money. Not making games from IP = uhhh losing money? Especially since they are barely releasing anything worth noting PERIOD as of late :/

A couple years back I had a friend go through an interview process for a position at Nam-dai. He did not end up taking the position offered.

Reasons: He thought that the place was run terribly, that management was completely incompetent and named any number of illuminating points to the effect of how. His impression was that hopping on the Nam-dai boat would be akin to hitching your career to the Titanic.

I took what he said with a grain of salt, having not been present myself.. but am still not surprised to see them doing poorly.

Also, Nam-dai would have been much better served to have localized Tales games that 90% of the -your mother is a classy lady- they HAVE done the psat few years. Sure, Naruto > Tales for sales... but is only the tiniest fraction of their output. The reason Tales hasnt come to the West lately has nothing to do with lack of profit potential, and everything to do with bass-ackwards corporate politics , a misguided marketing strategy, and sheer managerial incompetence.

Smart money says Tales makes a re-appearance if they do a thorough house-cleaning, and the top execs start asking "well, what were we doing different when we were actually making money in the West?"

I know. When they localized Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube back in 2004, they actively marketed the title and it actually sold pretty well. Yet they wonder why none of them sold anywhere near as well?

Naruto can only take them so far. I don't anticipate it lasting as strong 4 years from now. Even the Pokemon/DBZ craze didn't last that long here. There's no way Naruto will outlast both of them.

I swear, man. Much of the reason why we don't see any of their games released here is precisely because of their managerial incompetence. They whine about low sales despite not bothering to put any effort into marketing their games, and they don't even consider the possibility of selling licenses to allow other companies to handle the risk of releasing their games. Honestly, I really hope Namco-Bandai gets split up and sold to various other companies. At least they'll have a better chance of getting released here if their properties belonged to a more competent company, like Capcom.

I think Nintendo published Symphonia, and Bamco decided to start making mostly PS2 games (probably since it was cheapest) lost some NA fans with Legendia and it started making Tales games going from system to system and again losing money because of those games being console exclusive and making enhanced ports etc

Nintendo only published Symphonia in Europe. However, they did a lot of marketing for it in the US, which did help its sales.

I wouldn't count on it. Tales is pretty much one of Namco's biggest cash cows and Namco won't let go of it.

Frankly, after the way they've handled Vesperia and Graces they can kiss my ass.

Namco's biggest cash cows? Hardly. Even in Japan, it's only mildly popular. In the US, Tales games are lucky to break 100k.

The reason why they wouldn't let go of it has little to do with the fact that they are making money off it and a lot to do with the fact that they're trolling us.

Huh, well funny how Pokemon games STILL sell millions everywhere and where I work at least, kids are ALWAYS asking me about DBZ games (newcomers to the franchise, don't forget it's not just the fans who have grown up with it) and they still seem to be doing REALLY well! Don't ask why, but even now DBZ and their games by the look of things, seem to be doing pretty good!
Whether Naruto will have lasting apparal, we'll see...
