Full press release after the jump.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Every generation has a beginning!

Torrance, CA (November 5, 2010) – Aksys Games, a publisher of interactive entertainment products, proudly announced today that Record of Agarest War Zero, the prequel to last year’s epic Strategy RPG, will be released in North America this summer. From the critically-acclaimed developer of niche RPG games, Idea Factory, Record of Agarest War Zero will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

“First and foremost,” says Ben Bateman, Localization Editor, Aksys Games, “I would like to address the question I know all of you are asking. The answer is yes, Santa Claus does exist. I have met him, in person. He has the strong, warm hands of a working man. Of course, some of you may already know this and are likely asking a different question. The answer to that question is also yes: We will be releasing Record of Agarest War Zero on a disc for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system. It was made excessively clear to us that there are a number of people who do not care for downloading their videogames. I am told this number is bigger than a breadbox, and so we have gone to great lengths—I personally have killed at least five orcs—to ensure that everyone will have the opportunity of sliding a shiny, new physical disc into the console of their choice. Or both, if they are into that sort of thing.”

“In addition, Zero also includes a number of other features, although I suppose it is rather disingenuous to consider existing on the physical plane to be a ‘feature.’ The portraits during conversations are now animated, which is nice, and the addition of a feature called, tentatively, ‘Free Intention’ allows you to explore towns and meet with members of your party, giving you more control over your relationship(s) with the ladies. Speaking of the ladies, as they grow fonder of you their clothes will change. Dressing like a nurse seems like an odd way to show your affection to me, but I’m not a woman on an adventure to save the world, so maybe I’m missing an important perspective.”

FEATURES

  • The Prequel to the RPG That Brought You Five Generations of Stories: The pivotal installment of the multi-generational tale tells the story of what happened in the age before Record of Agarest War, detailing the rise of some to glory, and the fall of others, into darkness.

  • Experience “Living Portraits”: The beautiful, static character portraits from Record of Agarest War are now animated to resemble living and breathing characters. Players will now see Sieghart display emotions of surprise, despair, and joy, among others.

  • The Return of the Unique Soul-Breeding System: Once again, the choice of bride at the end of the first generation further determines the skill sets and weapon of the offspring.

  • The Addition of the New Card Skill System: Players now have more control over the battle style of the main character, as well as his skills, by way of a card system. By picking the appropriate cards, Sieghart can be customized to reflect the type of fighter one wishes to play.

Record of Agarest Zero has not been rated by the ESRB. More information about Aksys Games and Record of Agarest Zero can be found at www.aksysgames.com.

I wanted a disc release for PS3 as well but I figured it wasn’t going to happen so I bought it anyway to support Aksys for at least putting it on the system. Glad there will be a physical copy of Zero this time. Thank you Aksys Games!

@Shadowfang12: All the extra stuff with the Naughty Edition was just swag stuff: A pillowcase, the mousepad, and a music CD. The actual game content was exactly the same. The “additional content” some people maybe be talking about is probably the following:
In Japan, Idea Factory released two version of Agarest. The first was the one one that Ghostlight localized, and was for the PS3 only. Idea Factory later released a slightly revised version for the 360, which included some stuff like special effects during conversations, achievements and a few other things (I honestly don’t know what, exactly). That was the version that we released with the extra content ported to the PS3. Idea Factory did pretty much the same thing for Zero, with an enhanced release for the 360 called “Dawn of War”. We’re also doing the same thing we did before, and releasing the enhanced version for both consoles.

I am overjoyed that this game is coming stateside. However, is it me or do I think a better title would be Dawn of Agarest War? I think it flows off the tongue better, and as a prequel title, it would seem to make sense. Kinda like how Nintendo and Bandai-Namco did away with the long-winded subtitle of Baten Kaitos 2 in the US and simply called it Baten Kaitos Origins. Brilliant move if I say so myself. I seriously think that they should instead call it Dawn of Agarest War, anyone else with me?

Thank you masuto, I feel it’d be a great amalgamation of Agarest Senki Zero: Dawn of War, which was the Japanese title of the 360 edition I believe. I do hope an admin from Aksys games themselves reads my suggestion and considers the title change. It’d most likely require a small tweaking of the title screen and art, but it just flows so much better to me and would probably catch a few more eyes. I will most likely get the 360 version of this game just to support Aksys, and of course I already have the 360 version of RoAW, and I pray they get Record of Agarest War 2 as well. I also

I do so hope they will also bring Agarest Senki 2 to the west. Just imported it and it’s even better than Zero. But first things first, because you can import your Zero Savegame into Senki 2.
