Arpéchéle

A country called “The Land Possessed by Death.” The country is located in the middle of the ocean with its perimeter surrounded by the “black flowers of misfortune,” the lycoris noirges. The country has long been in isolation, and the strong ocean currents have made it impossible for those from outside to visit. It is mainly comprised of three districts—Coene, Chedis, and Cerneveaul. The people here are born with the “curse of death,” and can only live as long as twenty-three years.

Reliver

A name referring to those who prolong their lives, keeping only their memories through a unique system developed by Scien Brofiise sixty years ago. Their memory data is downloaded into clones created with genes from their original bodies, which allows the people to revive as Relivers.

Despite reviving, their bodies still succumb to the effects of the curse, so Relivers continue to die and revive in twenty-three-year intervals. The system is effective in prolonging one’s life, but there is a high price to pay to become a Reliver…

Coene

The largest district in Arpéchéle. It is the busiest district, with many orphanages and a marché. The majority of citizens live in this district.

Chedis

The district where the wealthy families who fund both the Institute and the Royal Family live. Electricity and other such technology is more common here than in Coene. Many residents use electric cars or horse carriages as a form of transportation.

Cerneveaul

Located at the center of the country, this district is home to the National Research Institute and the castle, along with many other important facilities. The district is home to the most advanced technology, which those from Coene view as something akin to magic.

Lycoris Field

A field of lycoris noirges that blooms around Arpéchéle. Those who harm or pluck these flowers will quickly die, which is why the people detest the flowers and call them “the flowers of misfortune.”
