It was during summer vacation. Her brother suddenly disappeared without a trace one year ago from a town called Okunezato, which is surrounded by a natural barrier of mountains and rivers.
A perpetual air of nostalgia surrounds this crescent moon-shaped town, known for its many myths and legends. While its population may be declining, modern buildings have begun to appear on major streets, and it has recently garnered interest from some thrill-seeking youth as a mystery spot.
Right before her summer vacation, our protagonist, college student Ichiko Hanamaki, was invited by her childhood friend and classmate, Hino Kagutsuchi, to go on a trip to Okunezato, where her brother was last seen. Hino discovered a website that engages in discussions regarding Okunezato’s many mysteries and legends, “The Okunezato Supernatural Club,” and suggested taking advantage of an offline meeting set to take place in town to investigate her brother’s disappearance. With Hino’s encouragement and support, Ichiko thus gathers the resolve to head to the mysterious town.
The young men of the Okunezato Supernatural Club proceed to gather at Fuurinkan Hotel. Its members include live-in chef Isora Amari, nerdy cat-lover Toa Kushinada, med student Sosuke Tatehira, and finally, Fuurinkan Hotel owner Yuzuki Murakumo. Ichiko also meets capable middle school genius Yuki Hirasaka, scenic photographer Kagura Tsukuyomi, unfriendly novelist Chikage Karasuma, and Fuurinkan Hotel staff member and game-lover Yua Susano. All together, they are dragged into a series of strange incidents.
The town’s dark secrets are revealed one by one, and the famed Legend of the Revenants may actually be much more than a mere story. As Ichiko treads closer to the truth behind what happened with her brother, she encounters puzzling incidents, forbidden places that shouldn’t exist, and a legendary flower that only exists in Okunezato… An astonishing finale to the string of mysterious events awaits.
